Troisième et dernière journée pour cette édition 2024 de En Nord Beat avec une belle programmation musicale au programme. Evidemment les élections sont dans toutes les têtes mais nos esprits sont ravis de pouvoir retrouver la musique pour nous échapper. Une des scènes (la Kosmos) devient en ce dimanche un terrain de jeu pour les enfants dans cette journée clairement destinée aux familles. Prêts à de nouvelles découvertes nous retrouverons aujourd’hui : Eliasse, The Suspenders, MPL, Jewel Usain, Omar EK, Ladaniva et Selah Sue.

Eliasse (Big Bang Stage)

C’est sur la grande scène que la majorité des artistes présents aujourd’hui joueront, et l’après midi commence avec Eliasse. L’artiste comorien vivant à Mayotte nous propose de découvrir le style Zangoma venu de son pays. Et en quelques minutes nous voilà plongés dans un son dansant à souhait où les guitares et percussions ont la part belle. La bonne humeur qui se dégage des morceaux de l’artiste et ses musiciens nous emporte aisément et on se laisse happer par son univers des plus accueillants. Le public danse ou profite du concert assis sur la pelouse du parc Legrand-Grubbe comme prêts à vivre ce concerts de la manière la plus propice selon chacun. Une vraie communion se tisse rapidement et en fin de set on a l’impression qu’Eliasse est un ami qu’on connait depuis des années. Sa musique rapproche les peuples et nous file le sourire pour la journée dans ce climat incertain. On notera d’ailleurs son message pour inciter les gens à voter écrit sur l’écran en fond de scène. Une bien belle découverte qui montre que les frontières n’existent pas en musiques et que des compositions réussies trouveront toujours leur public. On pars vers la Village ravis d’avoir commencé cette dernière journée avec un set aussi fort en émotions auditives.

The Suspenders (Village Stage + Kosmos Stage)

Pour le premier concert sur la Village Stage c’est The Suspenders, une fanfare des Flandres qui vient nous proposer ses sonorités cuivrées. Le groupe nous joue démarre fort avec ses reprises de morceaux français et internationaux connus de tous. La fête est bien présente sous les arbres et on sent le public ravis de pouvoir reprendre en chœur des classiques comme « Libertine » ou « Hips Don’t Lie » par exemple. Les musiciens n’hésitent pas sur certains titres à donner de la voix également et le tout nous plonge dans un beau moment de partage qui fait du bien. Le groupe reviendra cette fois ci sous la Kosmos, pour l’unique concert de la journée, pour un set similaire mais encore mieux accueilli que le précédent, le public semblant vouloir évacuer la détresse des résultats du premier tour des législatives en faisant la fête dans un esprit de partage toujours plus grand. Danse, chant tout y était pour passer deux moments merveilleux en compagnies de nos musiciens à bretelles. Et c’est sur un titre de The Offspring que ce deuxième set de la soirée se clôturera en nous laissant avec un large sourire sur le visage. La musique adoucit les mœurs et The Suspenders l’ont prouvé par deux fois en ce dimanche pluvieux.

MPL (Big Bang Stage)

Retour sur la Big Bang pour MPL, que de notre côté nous connaissons uniquement pour leur feat sur l’album d’Oscar Les Vacances. Leur pop joyeuse et entrainante donne des envies de danses encore plus fortes aux premiers rangs qui n’hésitent pas à donner toute leur énergie tout au long du set. Les paroles semblent être connues par beaucoup et l’ambiance est clairement au beau fixe. Le groupe n’hésite pas à mettre en avant son côté cartoonesque avec un des musiciens se transformant en homme buisson le temps d’un titre, qui sera d’ailleurs recommencé suite à un petit cafouillage de rythme. La musique du groupe est clairement joyeuse et entrainante mais les paroles ont un peu de mal à nous accrocher. Ca n’est qu’un petit moins bien sur un set qui semble très largement trouver son public, et c’est le principal. L’humour c’est important aussi en musique et le groupe n’en manque absolument pas.

Jewel Usain (Big Bang Stage)

C’est parti pour le set de Jewel Usain après une petite pause bien méritée après le set dansant de MPL. Le fond de scène au couleur de son dernier album Où les Garçons Grandissent nous intrigue et les instruments sur scène nous annoncent déjà un beau moment de musique. Le rappeur d’Argenteuil arrive sur scène et se lance dans des titres puissants et personnels servis par un flow impressionnant. La trompette et les claviers joués par Béesau viennent habiller les titres avec brio, et son jeu est encore plus impressionnant quand on sait qu’il alterne les instruments en jouant avec quelques doigts immobilisés. A côté on retrouve un batteur ainsi qu’un guitarise/bassiste, tous deux débordant d’énergie et mettant magnifiquement en musique les textes de Jewel. Les premiers rangs semblent ravis de retrouver le rappeur et son équipe sur scène et reprennent les morceaux en chœur. Pendant un feat avec Neptune un membre du public aura le droit de prendre le micro et nous montrera sa connaissance parfaite des paroles ainsi qu’un flow qui surprendra les deux rappeurs sur scène. La musique et la beauté des textes font mouche dans nos esprits et après un set réussi de bout en bout on se dit qu’on a fait une très belle découverte en ce début de soirée. On quitte la Big Bang pour la Village Stage absolument conquis par les morceaux et la prestation de Jewel Usain. Croyez nous on ne manquera pas ses prochains passages dans la région tant le découverte fut belle.

Omar EK (Village Stage)

Nous revoilà sous les arbres pour retrouver Omar EK que nous avions découvert l’an dernier lors de son passage à The Black Lab. Son mélange de sonorités électroniques et de son jeu de guitare magistral font mouche une fois de plus et nous emportent loin. Ses influences nord africaines sont fortes et il nous fait voyager en musique. Sons de claviers, beats prenants et soli de guitares habités donnent au public un beau moment d’échappatoire face à notre monde qui s’assombrit de plus en plus. Ici le soleil a repris aussi bien métaphoriquement que littéralement ses droits et Omar EK en est son messager musical. La force des compositions nous touche beaucoup et on se met à danser tranquillement sur les rythmes chaloupés proposés par notre hôte. On ne voit pas le temps passer et lorsque le set se termine on se dit qu’on a vécu un beau moment hors de du monde entourés de gens partageant notre amour de la musique et faisant de nos différences des forces et ça fait clairement un bien fou.

Ladaniva (Big Bang Stage)

Comme si l’actualité se télescopait avec l’envie du festival de nous faire découvrir des artistes venus de contrés lointaines, le set de Ladaniva démarre pendant que la vague brune déferle dans les urnes. Les visages un peu fermés se rallumeront un peu avec la musique joyeuse de Ladaniva. Le duo franco arménien aux influences musicales riches, arrivé 8ème à l’Eurovision 2024 nous présente des titres emplis de mélange des cultures qui fait du bien. La voix de Jacklin Baghdasaryan envoutante réchauffe nos cœurs et les âmes avec un son riche et énergique. On se laisse porter par les titres du double album éponyme sorti quelques jours auparavant, ainsi que sur les morceaux plus anciens connus par les fans du premier rang. Le partage est encore une fois au cœur de la prestation et ça nous rend heureux une fois de plus. On profitera de chaque note comme pour rester enfermés dans notre bulle musicale qui nous protège et nous rassure. Un bien beau moment une fois de plus qui nous laisse prêt pour les derniers concerts de la soirée.

Selah Sue (Big Bang Stage)

La soirée et le festival se termine avec la voix chaude et magnifique de Selah Sue, qui arrive sur scène avec sa bonne humeur légendaire et des musiciens et choristes prêt.e.s à tout pour nous faire danser et rêver. Entre morceaux jazzy à souhait et d’autres plus à cheval entre les genres l’artiste nous envoute pour ne plus nous lâcher. Elle interprètera également une reprise magistrale de « Harley Davidson » qui enchantera également le public. Les fans sont présents et reprennent avec elle les morceaux les plus mythiques de sa discographie déjà bien fournie. L’artiste belge s’exprime comme à son habitude entièrement en Français entre les titres ce qui renforce un peu plus la communion évidente qui règne avec le public. La musicienne est en très grande forme et nous montre une fois de plus que son talent n’a pas de limite, et c’est la route à faire pour rentrer chez nous qui nous obligera à manquer les quelques derniers titres de la soirée. Mais on ressort du show de Selah Sue convaincus, s’il le fallait encore, qu’elle est une des grandes artistes européennes en activité et qu’on a une chance folle de pouvoir vivre ces émotions en live grâce à elle  et à cette voix inimitable. .

On quitte le festival heureux d’avoir vécu ces trois jours de musique dans ce cadre idyllique. La programmation pointue et éclectique du festival fait vraiment sa force et l’accueil des équipes de bénévoles renforce cette belle impression d’être dans une bulle de bonheur pendant quelques jours. Oui, on vous recommande En Nord Beat plus que chaudement et on espère vous y retrouver nombreux l’an prochain pour une nouvelle édition riche en découvertes.

It’s the third and final day of En Nord Beat 2024, with a great line-up of music. Obviously, the elections are on everyone’s minds, but we’re delighted to be able to escape to the music again. On this Sunday, one of the stages (the Kosmos) becomes a playground for children on a day clearly aimed at families. Ready to make new discoveries, today’s line-up includes Eliasse, The Suspenders, MPL, Jewel Usain, Omar EK, Ladaniva and Selah Sue.

Eliasse (Big Bang Stage)

It’s on the big stage that most of the artists present today will be playing, and the afternoon begins with Eliasse. The Comorian artist, who lives in Mayotte, invites us to discover the Zangoma style from his homeland. In just a few minutes, we’re plunged into a danceable sound where guitars and percussion take centre stage. The good humour that emanates from the tracks by the artist and his musicians easily sweeps us away, and we let ourselves be drawn into his most welcoming universe. The audience dance or enjoy the concert seated on the lawn of the Parc Legrand-Grubbe, ready to experience the concert in the way that suits them best. By the end of the set, you get the impression that Eliasse is a friend you’ve known for years. His music brings people together and puts a smile on our faces for the day in this uncertain climate. His message to encourage people to vote is written on the screen at the back of the stage. A wonderful discovery that shows that borders don’t exist in music and that successful compositions will always find their audience. We’re off to the Village, delighted to have started our last day with such an emotionally charged set.

The Suspenders (Village Stage + Kosmos Stage)

For the first concert on the Village Stage it’s The Suspenders, a brass band from Flanders. The band got off to a great start with their covers of well-known French and international songs. The party was going strong under the trees, and the audience were delighted to be able to sing along to classics such as « Libertine » and « Hips Don’t Lie ». The musicians didn’t hesitate to give their voices to some of the songs, too, and the whole thing was a great moment of sharing, which did us a world of good. This time round, the band returned to the Kosmos for the only concert of the day, for a similar set, but one that was even better received than the previous one, the audience seeming to want to shake off the distress of the results of the first round of legislative elections by celebrating in an ever-greater spirit of sharing. Dancing, singing, everything was there to spend two marvellous moments in the company of our musicians with braces. And the second set of the evening ended with a song by The Offspring, leaving us with a big smile on our faces. Music softens the soul, and The Suspenders proved it twice on this rainy Sunday.

MPL (Big Bang Stage)

Back on the Big Bang for MPL, who we only know from their feat on Oscar Les Vacances‘ album. Their upbeat, catchy pop makes the front row want to dance even more, and they don’t hesitate to give it their all throughout the set. The lyrics seem to be familiar to many, and the mood is clearly upbeat. The band don’t hesitate to show off their cartoonish side, with one of the musicians transforming himself into a bushman for the duration of a track, which is repeated after a minor rhythmic mix-up. The band’s music is clearly upbeat and catchy, but the lyrics have a bit of trouble getting us hooked. But that’s just one small drawback in a set that seems to have found its audience, and that’s the main thing. Humour is important in music too, and the band have absolutely no shortage of it.

Jewel Usain (Big Bang Stage)

It’s time for Jewel Usain‘s set, after a well-deserved break from MPL’s dance set. The backdrop, in the colours of his latest album Où les Garçons Grandissent, was intriguing, and the instruments on stage were a foretaste of what was to come. The rapper from Argenteuil takes to the stage and launches into some powerful, personal tracks served up by an impressive flow. The trumpet and keyboards played by Béesau add a brilliant touch to the tracks, and his playing is even more impressive when you realise that he alternates instruments by playing with a few immobilised fingers. Alongside him are a drummer and a guitarist/bassist, both bursting with energy and putting Jewel’s lyrics to music magnificently. The front row seemed delighted to have the rapper and his team back on stage, and sang along to the songs. During a feat with Neptune, a member of the audience was allowed to take the microphone and show us his perfect knowledge of the lyrics as well as a flow that surprised the two rappers on stage. The music and the beauty of the lyrics hit home and after a set that was a success from start to finish, we thought we’d made a great discovery at the start of the evening. We left the Big Bang for the Village Stage, absolutely won over by the songs and Jewel Usain’s performance. Believe us, we won’t be missing any of his forthcoming appearances in the region, it was such a wonderful discovery.

Omar EK (Village Stage)

We’re back under the trees to catch up with Omar EK, who we discovered last year when he performed at The Black Lab. His mix of electronic sounds and masterful guitar playing hit the spot once again, taking us far away. His North African influences are strong, and he takes us on a musical journey. Keyboard tones, gripping beats and lively guitar solos give the audience a beautiful moment of escape from our increasingly dark world. Here the sun has metaphorically as well as literally reclaimed its rights, and Omar EK is its musical messenger. The strength of his compositions has a real impact on us, and we begin to dance quietly to the swaying rhythms of our host. The time just flew by, and when the set was over we thought we’d had a wonderful time out of this world, surrounded by people who shared our love of music and turned our differences into strengths, and that clearly felt really good.

Ladaniva (Big Bang Stage)

As if current events were colliding with the festival’s desire to introduce us to artists from faraway lands, Ladaniva‘s set kicked off as the brown wave swept through the polls. Faces that may have been a little closed off will light up again with the joyous music of Ladaniva. The Franco-Armenian duo with rich musical influences, who came 8th at Eurovision 2024, present us with tracks full of a mix of cultures that feels good. Jacklin Baghdasaryan‘s bewitching voice warms our hearts and souls with a rich, energetic sound. We’re carried away by tracks from the self-titled double album released a few days earlier, as well as older tracks familiar to fans in the front row. Sharing is once again at the heart of the performance, and it makes us happy once again. We enjoyed every note, as if to remain enclosed in our musical bubble, which protected and reassured us. Once again, a wonderful moment that leaves us ready for the final concerts of the evening.

Selah Sue (Big Bang Stage)

The evening and the festival come to a close with the warm and magnificent voice of Selah Sue, who arrives on stage with her legendary good humour and musicians and backing singers ready to do anything to get us dancing and dreaming. Her songs are as jazzy as you could wish for, with others that straddle a number of genres. She also performed a masterful cover of « Harley Davidson », which also enchanted the audience. The fans were there, singing along with her to the most legendary songs from her already extensive discography. As usual, the Belgian artist spoke entirely in French between songs, adding to the obvious sense of communion with the audience. The musician was in top form, showing us once again that her talent knows no bounds, and it was the drive home that meant we had to miss the last few songs of the evening. But we came away from Selah Sue’s show convinced, if proof were needed, that she is one of the great European artists in the business and that we are incredibly lucky to be able to experience these emotions live thanks to her and her inimitable voice .

We left the festival happy to have experienced three days of music in this idyllic setting. The festival’s cutting-edge, eclectic line-up is its real strength, and the warm welcome from the teams of volunteers reinforces the impression of being in a bubble of happiness for a few days. We can’t recommend En Nord Beat highly enough, and we hope to see many of you there next year for another festival packed with new discoveries.
