A peine le temps de recharger les batteries que ça recommence ! Après une journée intense, nous repartons à Ypres pour finir le Ieperfest en beauté. Au programme de cette troisième et dernière journée : Harm’s Way, Congress, Show Me The Body, Magnitude, Gel, Never Ending Game, Gridiron, Missing Link, Predatory Void, Scarab, Knosis, Speedway et Xiao.

Xiao
Nous commençons la journée avec les suédois de Xiao. Ils ont le poids d’ouvrir cette dernière journée de festival mais surtout la salle intérieure qui n’attend que l’enchaînement Triple B plus tard dans la journée. La chanteuse a su tenir ce rôle à merveille, ses cris plein de rage ont su conquérir le public venu remplir timidement la salle. Il est clair que démarrer une journée avec ce mélange hardcore / powerviolence marque Xiao comme une belle découverte suèdoise, terre qui nous avait par le passé amené Refused.
Speedway
De nouveau des suèdois mais cette fois ci dans un autre registre plus hardcore Youth Crew. Speedway n’était pas en terrain inconnu, signé chez Revelations Record, la formation avait déjà pu montrer leur capacité au Outbreak mais aussi sur Paris. Passage obligé au Ieperfest et l’ambiance était au rendez-vous, le chanteur se donne corps et âme durant sa prestation venant stage dive avec le public. Pour sûr un groupe à suivre de très près avec un futur LP en approche.
Knosis
Déçu de ne pas les avoir vus durant leur concert sur Paris avec Stray from the Path dû à un décalage d’heure de démarrage, c’est avec une grand attente que nous nous posons devant Knosis. Formation avec l’ex chanteur de Crystal Lake, il est normal d’espérer une performance vocale à la hauteur de ce dernier. Petit OVNI de la journée avec ce metalcore mais qui est totalement compensé par la prestation de Ryo qui est une véritable boule d’énergie sur scène. Ça court partout, saute tout le temps nous savons plus où donner de la tête tellement ça va vite, allant jusqu’à crier dans une de ses pédales d’effet de guitare. Nous pouvons clairement dire que le contrat a été rempli pour les japonais de Knosis.
Scarab
Premier groupe de la déferlante triple B records qui va s’abattre sur Ypres. Scarab ouvre donc le bal, on sent clairement que le groupe est bien rodé et que le public n’attendait que les premières notes pour démarrer les hostilités. Les moshs démarrent et ne s’arrêteront qu’à la fin du set.
Predatory Void
La magie des festivals c’est aussi ses changements d’ambiance en tout genre. Passage d’un hardcore bien beatdown à un sludge metal de la part de Predatory Void. On reconnait de suite un des membres d’Amenra au jeu rapide des guitares. Grâce à Lina, le groupe arrive à jouir d’une belle versatilité et nous emmene à rêvasser sur certains riffs dont ils ont le secret. Une belle découverte dont Victor nous avait vanté les qualités en studio à la sortie de leur dernier album.
Missing Link
Deuxième tour pour la famille triple B avec Missing Link, set que nous attendions avec impatience au vue de la prestation donnée en ouverture d’outbreak. Avec des anciens membres de Internal Bleeding, Pain Of Truth, Recon, and Blood Runs Cold on ne pouvait s’attendre qu’à une pure bagarre dans la salle intérieure. La violence et les coups pleuvent d’autant plus quand le chanteur de Gridiron s’est ramené pour donner un avant goût de son groupe mais aussi pour son feat présent sur le dernier album. On notera malheureusement l’absence d’un feat avec Justice de trapped under Ice présent la veille.
Gridiron
Nous y sommes, le set le plus violent de la journée arrive avec Gridiron. Nouveau groupe sorti du COVID avec des membres de Year of the Knife, Never ending Game et Payback, Gridiron a su se faire une place avec son hardcore très influencé dans la manière de poser les lyrics sur le rap. On a senti l’esprit de famille triple B où le chanteur de Magnitude est venu moshé avec le public et tous les membres de Missing Link et never ending game ont entonné des lyrics sur certaines chansons.
Never Ending Game
Créé en 2018, les gars de Détroit de Never Ending Game viennent nous ramener dans leur valise toute l’essence même de leur ville. Les riffs sont tranchants et énervés. Afin de conclure au mieux leur set, tout le clan Triple B est venu fêter la fin de la tournée en attendant le passage de Magnitude plus tard dans la soirée.
GEL
Petite pause sur la violence, on arrête les grosses sessions de mosh pour favoriser le two step et les side to side. Gel profite de cette fin de soirée pour nous réchauffer avec leur punk hardcore pour les Freaks comme iels aiment le dire. Les enchaînements sont rapides et une ambiance familiale et bienveillante émane du public. On a pu voir la jeune génération sur les épaules de l’ancienne et des parents mosher avec leurs enfants et monter sur scène.
Magnitude
On ne présente plus Magnitude, groupe phare de chez Triple B records. Le groupe se revendique via ses combats Straight edge et on sent bien que toute la salle intérieure n’attendait que le groupe pour finir d’exploser. Le set sera chaud et rempli de sing along sur les titres comme “ To whatever fateful and” et “Defy”.
Show Me the Body
Avec Show me the Body on se ne sait jamais sur quel pied danser. Une fois inspirations hardcore, une fois indus, pour finir par de l’acoustique. Mais on sait toujours qu’on va danser. Et ce soir n’en fait pas défaut, on retrouve Julian avec son banjo qui est venu nous chercher dès les premiers titres. Étant sur la fin d’une tournée ayant passé par Lille, ou encore Manchester, les américains sont rodés avec une prestation toujours explosive. Le public répond présent malgré une journée bien chargée au plus grand plaisir du groupe. Julian donne tout sur scène telle la bête de scène qu’il est, ça saute partout ça crache. C’est ça aussi Show me the Body, les combats politiques, l’anticapitalisme qui trouvera un écho au soir des résultats du second tour des législatives. Le set se verra agrémenté du guitariste de Magnitude venu porter main forte lors d’une chanson.
Congress
Pionnier du H8000, Congress sont venus retourner leurs terres natales et remontrer à la nouvelle génération leur statut de légende sur les terres belges. Sans surprise le show est extraordinaire, l’ancienne génération se mélange avec la nouvelle, des gens du public lâchent leurs larmes. Le set sera rempli d’émotions et aura permis à tous les spectateurs de pouvoir frimer auprès de son entourage en disant « J’ai vu Congress en live »
Harm’s Way
Toute bonne chose a une fin et cette dernière se caractérise par Harm’s Way. Le groupe assure son statut de co-headliner et termine parfaitement la soirée. Le public a su se montrer présent malgré trois jours de marathon de groupe afin de finir sur la fameuse danse de “Infestation”
Cette journée aura été marqué évidemment par la présence de triple B mais aussi par la diversité beaucoup plus présente musicalement sur cette journée du dimanche. Après un marathon de trente groupes photographiés et reportés, c’est avec un grand sourire que le travail se termine pour cette année.
Un grand merci à Khloé et Aloïs pour les accréditations et la confiance accordées pour toute la durée du festival, à l’ensemble du festival pour l’accueil et l’organisation de ces trois beaux jours et au public pour cette ambiance mémorable.
Barely enough time to recharge the batteries before it all starts up again! After an intense day, we headed back to Ypres to finish the Ieperfest on a high note. On the program for this third and final day: Harm’s Way, Congress, Show Me The Body, Magnitude, Gel, Never Ending Game, Gridiron, Missing Link, Predatory Void, Scarab, Knosis, Speedway and Xiao.

Xiao
We start the day with the Swedes from Xiao. They’ve got the weight of opening this last day of the festival, but more importantly, they’ve got the inside room waiting for the Triple B set later in the day. The singer played this role to perfection, her raucous screams winning over the audience who had shyly filled the hall. It’s clear that starting the day with this mix of hardcore and powerviolence marks Xiao out as a fine Swedish discovery, the same land that brought us Refused in the past.
Speedway
The Swedes again, but this time in a more hardcore Youth Crew register. Signed to Revelations Record, the band had already demonstrated their skills at Outbreak and in Paris. A stopover at Ieperfest was a must, and the atmosphere was just right, with the singer giving his all during his performance and joining in the stage dive with the audience. Definitely a band to keep an eye on, with a forthcoming LP on the horizon.
Knosis
Disappointed not to have seen them during their Paris show with Stray from the Path due to a delayed start, it’s with great anticipation that we settle down in front of Knosis. Formed by the former singer of Crystal Lake, it’s only natural to expect a vocal performance to match. This little metalcore UFO of the day is totally compensated by the performance of Ryo, who is a real ball of energy on stage. Running everywhere, jumping all the time, we don’t know which way to turn because he’s going so fast, even shouting into one of his guitar effect pedals. We can clearly say that the contract has been fulfilled for the Japanese of Knosis.
Scarab
The first band in the triple B records wave to hit Ypres. Scarab opened the show, and it was clear that the band was well-rehearsed, and that the audience was just waiting for the first notes to start the hostilities. The moshes start and don’t stop until the end of the set.
Predatory Void
The magic of festivals is also their changing moods. Predatory Void switch from beatdown hardcore to sludge metal. One of Amenra’s members is immediately recognizable by his rapid guitar playing. Thanks to Lina, the band’s versatility takes us on a dreamy journey on some of their secret riffs. A fine discovery, whose qualities Victor praised to us in the studio on the release of their last album.
Missing Link
Second round for the triple B family with Missing Link, a set we’d been eagerly awaiting in view of their performance at the opening of outbreak. With former members of Internal Bleeding, Pain Of Truth, Recon, and Blood Runs Cold we could only expect a pure brawl in the indoor room. The violence and blows rained down all the more when Gridiron’s singer came back to give a taste of his band, but also for his feat on the latest album. Unfortunately, there was no feat with Justice from Trapped Under Ice, who had been present the day before.
Gridiron
Here we are, the most violent set of the day arrives with Gridiron. A new band to emerge from COVID with members of Year of the Knife, Never ending Game and Payback, Gridiron have made a name for themselves with their hardcore, heavily influenced in the way they lay down rap lyrics. The triple B family spirit was palpable, with Magnitude’s singer moshing with the crowd and all the members of Missing Link and Never Ending Game singing along to some of the songs.
Never Ending Game
Created in 2018, the Detroit boys of Never Ending Game bring us all the essence of their city in their suitcase. The riffs are sharp and angry. To round off their set, the entire Triple B clan came out to celebrate the end of the tour, while awaiting Magnitude’s appearance later in the evening.
GEL
Taking a short break from the violence, we put an end to the big mosh sessions in favor of two-steps and side-to-sides. Gel take advantage of this late evening to warm us up with their hardcore punk for the Freaks, as they like to say. The sequences were fast-paced, and the crowd exuded a friendly, family atmosphere. We saw the younger generation standing on the shoulders of the older, and parents moshing with their children and taking to the stage.
Magnitude
Magnitude, Triple B Records’ flagship band, needs no introduction. The band’s Straight Edge credentials are well known, and it’s clear that the entire indoor venue was just waiting for the band to finish exploding. The set is hot and full of sing-alongs on tracks like “To whatever fateful and” and “Defy”.
Show Me the Body
With Show me the Body, you never know where you’ll end up. Once inspired by hardcore, then indus, then acoustic. But you always know you’re going to dance. And this evening is no exception, with Julian and his banjo picking us up right from the start. Coming to the end of a tour that took them to Lille and Manchester, the Americans are well-versed, and their performance is always explosive. The audience responds despite a busy day, much to the band’s delight. Julian gives it all he’s got on stage, jumping around and spitting. It’s also Show me the Body, the political battles, the anti-capitalism that will find an echo on the evening of the results of the second round of the legislative elections. Magnitude’s guitarist joins in for a song.
Congress
Pioneers of the H8000, Congress have come to return to their homeland and show the new generation their legendary status on Belgian soil. Unsurprisingly, the show was extraordinary, with the old generation mixing with the new, and some members of the audience shedding tears. The set was full of emotion, and gave everyone in the audience the chance to show off to their friends and family by saying “I saw Congress live”.
Harm’s Way
All good things must come to an end, and Harm’s Way is a case in point. The band lived up to their co-headliner status and brought the evening to a perfect close. The audience showed up in spite of three days of band marathon to end on the famous dance of “Infestation”.
The day was marked not only by the presence of triple B, but also by the much greater musical diversity on Sunday. After a marathon of thirty bands photographed and reported, it’s with a big smile that this year’s work comes to an end.
