Ce samedi 10 août, nous avons renoncé à la lumière du soleil pour nous rendre à la Brat Cave pour une soirée metal qui n’a fait qu’augmenter la température. Pour occuper notre soirée de weekend, ce sont différents groupes français qui ont eu la tâche : les Lillois de Big Death Amego et Fallen Gleam, Empreinte venus d’Amiens et enfin Amaurosis de Tours. Cette soirée, ponctuée de quelques péripéties sonores, ne s’est malheureusement pas bien terminée pour Amaurosis, qui a dû prendre la dure décision de ne pas jouer.

Big Death Amego ouvre la soirée tôt. Pourtant, malgré la chaleur (à l’extérieur et l’intérieur de la salle) et l’heure, le public répond présent, avec une salle qui se remplit plutôt bien compte tenu des conditions. Il ne faut pas longtemps à Hugues avant d’aller faire un mini tour dans le public. Plus tard dans le concert, c’est plutôt Clément qui prend l’initiative, toujours accompagné de sa guitare. Le public répond aux sollicitations, et pas besoin d’attendre la suite de la soirée pour voir quelques pogos apparaître dans la petite foule présente. Sur scène, les musiciens sautent et se déplacent tout en partageant la puissance de leur musique. Le groupe nous propose bien sûr les morceaux de leur dernier EP Die or Follow Me — qui va d’ailleurs ressortir en CD ! — mais aussi des titres qui n’ont jamais été enregistrés. Leur partie se termine plutôt en mode instrumental, Clément en profitant pour se rendre dans la foule pour faire un petit pogo avec sa guitare !
Après une petite pause pour prendre l’air frais et respirer un peu, retour dans la Brat Cave pour accueillir les Lillois de Fallen Gleam, qui donnent ici leur premier concert ! Après le grunge hardcore de Big Death Amego, la suite de la soirée s’annonce bien plus metalcore. Fallen Gleam n’a pour l’instant sorti qu’un single, c’est donc une découverte de leur répertoire ce soir, ce qui rend l’expérience d’autant plus intéressante. Face à un public plus timide, Manu n’hésite pas à les solliciter pour qu’ils avancent. Le groupe alterne aisément entre des moments plus calmes et d’autres plus énergiques. Les breakdowns sont clairement présents et ne manquent pas de nous donner envie de bouger la tête au rythme de leur musique. Cependant, c’est dans les passages en voix claire que quelques faiblesses se font sentir, ce qui est dommage car l’ensemble a beaucoup de potentiel ! C’est finalement un premier show qui nous donne envie de voir l’évolution de Fallen Gleam, tant dans les prochains singles que sur scène. Ils viennent d’ailleurs d’annoncer leur deuxième date, le 10 septembre à The Black Lab !
Après une nouvelle bouffée d’air frais, nous continuons la soirée avec Empreinte. Ils sont de retour à Lille après leur passage à St So avec Ashen au mois de mai. Sur scène, ils nous partagent leur son avec une ambiance synthétisée accompagnée de riffs propres au metalcore. Quelques problèmes de son perturbent le lancement du concert, et d’autres persistent. De plus, le public semble avoir du mal à suivre avec la chaleur de la salle, ce qui fait que celle-ci se vide quelque peu. Lors de leur dernier passage, le groupe venait de sortir “DREAM”, qu’ils n’ont pas hésité à jouer ce soir en sollicitant la participation de l’audience, comme sur d’autres morceaux d’ailleurs. Mais c’est aussi l’occasion pour eux de jouer leur dernier single, “ICE COLD KNIVES”. Sur l’un des derniers titres Orianne, la chanteuse du groupe AHNA se joint à Yanis pour le chant, d’abord depuis la foule, puis sur scène.
Avec un premier album sorti début juin, Amaurosis devait le présenter ainsi que leur univers en live pour la deuxième fois ce soir. Cependant, après une petite heure à essayer de résoudre des problèmes techniques, c’est avec déception que le groupe nous annonce qu’ils ne joueront pas ce soir. Nous espérons les revoir bientôt à Lille afin qu’ils puissent prendre leur revanche sur cette soirée.
Dans l’ensemble, cette soirée assez metalcore, à l’exception de Big Death Amego, nous a donné encore plus chaud. Le mélange des groupes qui commencent à faire leurs premiers pas sur scène et ceux qui ont déjà un public à Lille a permis de créer une belle ambiance et présence. Fallen Gleam a pu présenter l’ampleur de son travail pour la première fois sur scène, Big Death Amego a démontré qu’ils avaient encore et toujours de l’énergie à revendre, Empreinte, quant à eux, s’imposent avec leur metalcore moderne, et nous croisons les doigts pour découvrir Amaurosis bientôt.

On Saturday 10 August, we gave up the sunshine and headed to the Bratcave for a metal night that only served to raise the temperature. To fill our weekend evening, a number of French bands were given the task: Big Death Amego and Fallen Gleam from Lille, Empreinte from Amiens and Amaurosis from Tours. The evening, punctuated by a few sonic twists and turns, unfortunately didn’t end well for Amaurosis, who had to make the tough decision not to play.

Big Death Amego opened the evening early. But despite the heat (inside and out) and the time of day, the crowd turned out in force, and the venue filled up quite nicely given the conditions. It didn’t take long for Hugues to make a mini-tour of the audience. Later in the concert, it was Clément who took the initiative, still accompanied by his guitar. The audience responded to the requests, and there was no need to wait for the rest of the evening to see a few pogos appear in the small crowd present. On stage, the musicians jump and move around, sharing the power of their music. The band played tracks from their latest EP Die or Follow Me – which is about to be re-released on CD! – but also tracks that have never been recorded. Their set ended more in instrumental mode, with Clément taking the opportunity to go into the crowd and do a little pogo with his guitar!
After a short break to get some fresh air and breathe a little, we’re back in the Brat Cave to welcome Fallen Gleam from Lille, who are playing their first gig here! After the hardcore grunge of Big Death Amego, the rest of the evening promises to be much more metalcore. Fallen Gleam have only released one single so far, so it’s a discovery of their repertoire tonight, which makes the experience all the more interesting. Faced with a more timid audience, Manu doesn’t hesitate to ask them to move forward. The band alternates easily between calmer and more energetic moments. The breakdowns are clearly present and make us want to shake our heads to the rhythm of their music. However, it’s in the clear-voice passages that a few weaknesses are felt, which is a shame because the whole thing has so much potential! All in all, it’s a first show that makes us want to see how Fallen Gleam evolve, both in their next singles and on stage. In fact, they’ve just announced their second date, on September 10th at The Black Lab!
After another breath of fresh air, we continue the evening with Empreinte. They’re back in Lille after playing at St So with Ashen in May. On stage, they share their sound with us, with a synthesised atmosphere accompanied by metalcore riffs. A few sound problems disrupted the start of the concert, and others persisted. What’s more, the crowd seemed to be struggling to keep up with the heat in the venue, which caused it to empty out somewhat. On their last appearance, the band had just released « DREAM », which they didn’t hesitate to play this evening, soliciting the audience’s participation, as they did on other tracks. But it’s also an opportunity for them to play their latest single, ‘ICE COLD KNIVES’. On one of the final tracks Orianne, lead singer of AHNA, joins Yanis on vocals, first from the crowd, then on stage.
With their debut album out in early June, Amaurosis were due to present it and their world live for the second time this evening. However, after an hour of trying to resolve technical problems, it was with disappointment that the band announced that they would not be playing tonight. We hope to see them again soon in Lille so that they can take revenge for this evening.
All in all, this fairly metalcore evening, with the exception of Big Death Amego, left us even hotter. The mix of bands taking their first steps on stage and those who already have an audience in Lille created a great atmosphere and presence. Fallen Gleam were able to showcase the breadth of their work for the first time on stage, Big Death Amego demonstrated that they still have energy to spare, while Empreinte made their mark with their modern metalcore, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for Amaurosis soon.
