Après avoir vu Chaser au BrakRock 2024, impossible de ne pas aller se replonger dans sa discographie. On vous présente donc de manière plus détaillée leur tout dernier album en date : Small Victories, sorti le 28 juin via SBÄM Records. Il s’agit ici du 5ème opus des punk rockeurs Californiens, et il est parfait pour l’été!

Small Victories est un pur album de punk rock mélodique. On est rapidement mis dans le bain dès les premières notes, plutôt énergiques, avec “Brand New Enemy”. Dans les thèmes on retrouve notamment le fait de profiter des gens qu’on aime avec par exemple le single “Stay Gold”, hommage à leur ami disparu Curtis Gold. D’autres titres font également résonner notre corde mélancolique comme “Fault Lines”, qui se trouve être un morceau particulièrement remarquable au sein de cet opus. La voix de Mike LeDonne et l’émotion qu’elle dégage sont particulièrement mises en avant ici. “Small Victories”, dans lequel on entend bien résonner les fûts de Davey Guy à un bon rythme, nous intime de se mettre moins la pression, et de savoir se féliciter de nos petites réussites. “Flying High”, particulièrement mélodique avec de jolis riffs de Bill Hockmuth, est dans le même genre de discours sur le fait de jouir de chaque jour, chaque instant. “Control The Bleed” ressemble davantage à une critique de la société mais tournée comme Chaser sait le faire : sous l’angle positif, remerciant ceux qui, par leur petits gestes, font de ce monde un monde meilleur. “Out The Shadows” est un titre particulièrement énergique et puissant, très punk rock, dans lequel on entend davantage la voix de Jesse Stopnitzky (basse, chant). De manière équivalente, “Just Breathe” nous donne envie d’entonner des “wo ho” avec le groupe. On termine l’album avec “A Revel Song”, qui fait vibrer en nous toute la belle énergie positive que dégage l’ensemble de cet album.
Entre belles mélodies et énergie punk rock, chaque titre de Small Victories est une claque de puissance et d’émotion. Tout en conservant une identité propre tout au long de l’album, chaque titre possède sa propre âme et fait vivre quelque chose de différent à l’intérieur de nous. Et le moins qu’on puisse dire c’est que Chaser sait le faire vivre sur scène. On espère donc retrouver rapidement le groupe!

After seeing Chaser at BrakRock 2024, it was impossible not to delve into their discography. So here’s a closer look at their latest album: Small Victories, released on June 28th via SBÄM Records. This is the Californian punk rockers’ 5th opus, and it’s perfect for summer!

Small Victories is a pure album of melodic punk rock. You’re quickly into the swing of things from the first energetic notes of « Brand New Enemy ».
The album’s themes include enjoying the people you love, with the single « Stay Gold », a tribute to their late friend Curtis Gold. Other tracks also strike a melancholy chord, such as « Fault Lines », which is a particularly remarkable track on this opus. Mike LeDonne‘s voice and the emotion it exudes are particularly in evidence here. « Small Victories », in which Davey Guy‘s drums resonate at a good pace, tells us to take the pressure off ourselves, and to congratulate ourselves on our small successes. « Flying High », which is particularly melodic, with some lovely riffs from Bill Hockmuth, is in the same vein, talking about enjoying every day, every moment. « Control The Bleed » is more like a critique of society, but in the way Chaser know how: from a positive angle, thanking those who, through their small gestures, make the world a better place. « Out The Shadows » is a particularly energetic and powerful track, very punk rock, in which we hear more of Jesse Stopnitzky‘s voice (bass, vocals). Similarly, « Just Breathe » makes you want to join in the « wo ho » chant with the band. The album ends with ‘A Revel Song’, which brings out all the positive energy in the whole album.
Between beautiful melodies and punk rock energy, each track on Small Victories is a slap in the face of power and emotion. While retaining its own identity throughout the album, each track has its own soul and brings something different to life inside us. And the least we can say is that Chaser know how to bring it to life on stage. So we hope to see the band again soon!
