Dans la continuité de leur tournée européenne SeeyouSpaceCowboy s’arretent à Anvers ce mercredi 11 septembre afin de proposer leur metalcore au public belge du Kavka Zappa. Mendville Shows nous propose de revenir à un show à l’ancienne en floorshow (pas de scène). Pour ce faire, ils seront accompagnés par les anglais de Killing me Softly et les espagnols de Boneflower.

On ne présente plus les anglais de Killing Me Softly. Signé chez The Coming Strife Records, le groupe est la figure de proue du revival UK metalcore avec des groupes comme Durendal, Cauldron …. Ils ont fait un passage remarqué à l’Eurocore puis au Outbreak de cette année asseyant leur importance sur la scène actuelle. C’est avec le concert à Paris encore chaud en tête que nous arrivons au show, malheureusement la configuration de la salle et le public ne donneront pas autant d’énergie que la veille. Néanmoins le groupe arrive à toucher ses fans dans les parties moshs où ils feront la part belle aux accords dissonants caractéristiques du genre. Ils passeront en revue leur dernière album Autumn Lost in Silence ainsi que leur dernier titre sortit sur la compil de Coming Strife “ Light no longer rests on the Reverbed”. En ayant bien chauffé la salle les anglais laisse la place au post-hardcore des Espagnols de Boneflower.
Il est maintenant l’heure de sortir les mouchoirs et de se rapprocher des acteurs espagnols de cette soirée. Avec leur album Armour, la formation nous envoie une déferlante d’énergie remplie de mélancolie. On entend assez distinctement des influences comme The Chariot s’immiscer chez nos confrères espagnols. C’est un petit voyage que Boneflower nous offre alternant titre très planant pour venir nous tirer la larme et des morceaux avec énormément de puissance délivrée avec passion par le trio qui n’hésite à prendre toute la place qui leur a été alloué. Comparé à Killing Me Softly on sent que l’ambiance a quand même pas mal changé, l’agressivité devient intériorisée permettant à chaque spectateur de faire leur propre introspection tout au fil de la performance. On notera le travail remarquable du batteur tout au long de la prestation qui a vraiment impressionnée pas mal de spectateurs.
On finit cette soirée avec SeeYouSpaceCowboy. Venus défendre leur dernier album Coup de grâce, les américains débarque à Anvers avec l’envie de rallumer la foule. Le groupe commence avec “Let Us set the Scene” qui introduit l’album mais aussi le concert sous forme de poing de révolte sur la question trans et leur représentation au sein de la communauté hardcore / metalcore dont le groupe est un des défenseur via leur prise de position, merch et le fait d’avoir un membre au sein de cette communauté. Afin de ne rester dans une certaine énergie le groupe garde la majeur partie du dernier album en enlevant partiellement la touche jazzy, la teinte romanesque que ce dernier peut avoir, en incorporant des titres des anciens albums beaucoup plus tranchants à l’instar de “ I am a trans-continental railroad, please run the train on me”.
Au final, la soirée a su ramener l’energie de chaque groupe pour avoir un bon mélange entre metalcore des années 2000 et post hardcore. Le public aura été touché par l’effet cathartique de Boneflower, la violence de Killing me Softly et celle de SeeyouSpaceCowboy qui a su ramener les sujets de lutte anti spéciste ( Petit clin d’oeil de Connie envers Divine Sentence avec qui ils ont partagé le set la veille sur Paris) et LGBT au travers de sa prestation.

As part of their European tour, SeeyouSpaceCowboy are stopping off in Antwerp on Wednesday 11 September to bring their metalcore to the Belgian audience at Kavka Zappa. Mendville Shows are going back to an old-fashioned floorshow (no stage). They’ll be joined by England’s Killing me Softly and Spain’s Boneflower.

The English band Killing Me Softly need no introduction. Signed to The Coming Strife Records, the band is the figurehead of the UK metalcore revival, with bands like Durendal and Cauldron ….. They made a notable appearance at this year’s Eurocore and Outbreak, establishing their place on the current scene. We arrived at the show with the Paris concert still fresh in our minds, but unfortunately the configuration of the venue and the audience didn’t give us as much energy as the day before. Nevertheless, the band managed to touch their fans in the mosh parts, where they gave pride of place to the dissonant chords characteristic of the genre. They played through their latest album, Autumn Lost in Silence, as well as their latest track released on The Coming Strife compilation ‘Light no longer rests on the Reverbed’. Having warmed up the room nicely, the English band make way for post-hardcore from Spain’s Boneflower.
Now it’s time to get out the tissues and get closer to the Spanish stars of the evening. With their album Armour, the band send us a wave of energy filled with melancholy. You can clearly hear influences like The Chariot creeping into our Spanish colleagues’ sound. Boneflower take us on a little journey, alternating between soaring tracks that bring tears to our eyes and tracks with enormous power delivered with passion by the trio, who don’t hesitate to take up all the space allocated to them. Compared to Killing Me Softly, the atmosphere has changed quite a bit, with the aggression becoming more internalised, allowing each member of the audience to do their own introspection throughout the performance. It’s worth noting the remarkable work of the drummer throughout, who really impressed a lot of the audience.
We end the evening with SeeYouSpaceCowboy. Here to defend their latest album Coup de grâce, the Americans arrive in Antwerp with the desire to reignite the crowd. The band kick off with ‘Let Us Set the Scene’, which introduces the album and the concert in the form of a fist of revolt on the trans issue and their representation within the hardcore/metalcore community, of which the band is one of the defenders via their stance, merch and the fact that they have a member within this community. In order to maintain a certain energy, the band have kept most of the last album, partially removing the jazzy touch and romantic tinge it may have had, by incorporating much sharper tracks from the old albums, such as ‘I am a trans-continental railroad, please run the train on me’.
In the end, the evening brought together the energy of each band to produce a good mix of 2000s metalcore and post-hardcore. The audience was moved by the cathartic effect of Boneflower, the violence of Killing me Softly and that of SeeyouSpaceCowboy, who brought the anti-speciesist (Connie’s nod to Divine Sentence, with whom they shared a set the night before in Paris) and LGBT issues to the fore.
