Trois ans après leur fabuleux Don’t You Feel Amazing ?, les anglais de Trash Boat sortent ce 4 octobre leur nouvel opus, Heaven Can Wait via Hopeless Records. Le groupe continue leur exploration des genres musicaux offrant 11 titres entre rock alternatif et metalcore.

Trash Boat ont fait évoluer leur son entre leurs deux derniers albums, permettant de s’ouvrir à une toute nouvelle scène proche du core. Avec une tournée en compagnie de Enter Shikari, ils ont su conquérir un tout nouveau public, sans vraiment perdre l’ancien comme nous confiait Tobi en interview en décembre 2022. Avec cette évolution, ils nous ont montré que quand on écoute du Trash Boat, il faut se laisser surprendre. Pour ce nouvel album, le groupe continue exactement dans cette même direction.
Il y a dans cet album un vrai clin d’œil au nu-métal du début des années 2000, mais totalement remis au goût du jour par le prisme du metalcore. Il est indéniable qu’on retrouve dans certains titres une vraie influence de Linkin Park. Prenons « Burn » par exemple, un morceau à la fois puissant notamment dans le jeu de batterie de Oakley Moffat, mais une voix très mélodique, jusqu’au breakdown final pour le premier « ah ouais, ça scream bien ! » de l’album.
C’est accompagné d’autres noms du metalcore international que Trash Boat nous sortent leurs titres les plus violents. Eric Vanlerberghe d’I Prevail s’invitera sur « Be Someone » pour un titre à la rythmique assez démente qui nous fait expulser toute notre rage. Une fin de morceau assez apocalyptique où on entend même un petit « Blegh ». Le travail de James Grayson à la basse est très bon. C’est ensuite au tour de Kenta Joie de Crossfaith d’apporter la pointe futuriste sur « Filthy/RIGHTEOUS » pour un semblant de B.O. de Matrix.
Les titres sont dans l’ensemble extrêmement catchy, nous restant en tête, notamment « Are You Ready Now ? ». La voix de Tobi Duncan est toujours aussi impressionnante, que ce soit en chant clair que screamé. C’est un superbe vocaliste, qui n’hésite pas à écrire avec le cœur sur la recherche de soi avec « Better Than Yesterday » en apogée pour une bouffée d’oxygène. Le post-punk anglais rayonne sur toute la scène internationale, et il sera intégré dans les compositions de Trash Boat avec « The Grip ». Un sample électronique, une guitare bien rugueuse, un chant à moitié parlé et surtout une fureur pour chacun des musiciens. C’est l’un des morceaux les plus intéressants de cet album.
A l’écoute de cet album, on ne doute pas de toute la folie des concerts qui vont accompagner cette sortie. Il y a de quoi bien s’élancer dans des pogos, et on attends avec impatience « Liar Liar » qui a l’air assez extraordinaire. Les singles s’enchainent et le duo que fait « Liar Liar » avec « Delusions of Grandeur » est assez impressionnant. Il faut dire que ce dernier propose une basse très Frank Carter avec un scream qui semble ne jamais s’arrêter.
Trash Boat nous proposent un album à la hauteur de nos attentes, dans une lignée parfaite avec leur précédent. On retrouve des titres plein de puissances, d’émotions et surtout assez inventifs dans leurs constructions.

Three years after their fabulous Don’t You Feel Amazing? album, England’s Trash Boat are releasing their new opus, Heaven Can Wait, on October 4th via Hopeless Records. The band continue their exploration of musical genres, offering 11 tracks between alternative rock and metalcore.
Trash Boat have evolved their sound between their last two albums, opening up to a whole new scene close to core. With a tour in the company of Enter Shikari, they have conquered a whole new audience, without really losing the old one, as Tobi confided to us in an interview in December 2022. With this evolution, they have shown us that when you listen to Trash Boat, you have to let yourself be surprised. With this new album, the band continues in exactly the same direction.
There’s a real nod in this album to the nu-metal of the early 2000s, but totally updated through the prism of metalcore. There’s no denying that some tracks have a real Linkin Park influence. Take “Burn”, for example, a track that’s both powerful, notably in Oakley Moffat‘s drumming, but with a very melodic voice, right up to the final breakdown for the album’s first “oh yeah, that screams good!
Trash Boat’s most violent tracks are accompanied by other international metalcore names. Eric Vanlerberghe from I Prevail joins us on “Be Someone” for a track with a demented rhythm that makes us expel all our rage. A rather apocalyptic end to the track, where we even hear a little “Blegh”. James Grayson‘s bass work is very good. Then it’s Kenta Joie from Crossfaith‘s turn to add a futuristic touch to “Filthy/RIGHTEOUS”, which sounds like the soundtrack to The Matrix.
On the whole, the tracks are extremely catchy, sticking in our heads, especially “Are You Ready Now? Tobi Duncan‘s voice is as impressive as ever, whether in clear or screamed vocals. He’s a superb vocalist, who doesn’t hesitate to write from the heart about finding oneself, with “Better Than Yesterday” as the climax for a breath of oxygen. English post-punk is shining on the international scene, and it will be integrated into Trash Boat‘s compositions with “The Grip”. An electronic sample, rough guitar, half-spoken vocals and, above all, the fury of each musician. It’s one of the most interesting tracks on the album.
Listening to this album, there’s no doubting the craziness of the concerts that will accompany this release. There’s plenty to get us going at pogos, and we can’t wait for “Liar Liar”, which sounds quite extraordinary. The singles follow on from each other, and the duet between “Liar Liar” and “Delusions of Grandeur” is quite impressive. It has to be said that the latter features a very Frank Carter-like bass with a scream that never seems to stop.
Trash Boat offer us an album that lives up to our expectations, in perfect harmony with their previous work. The tracks are full of power, emotion and, above all, inventive construction.
