Lorsque les suédois de Lowrider avec leur rock stoner et les anglais de Elephant Tree et leur stoner bien psyché se retrouvent pour faire un split on peut déjà s’attendre à un album de grande qualité! Intitulé The Long Forever, ce split sera disponible dès le 25 octobre via Blues Funeral Recordings. Sept titres au total, dont deux où les groupes ont travaillé conjointement, autant dire que l’envie de se jeter dans cette nouvelle sortie est bien présente.

C’est Lowrider qui ouvrent le bal avec « And The Horse You Rode In On » et on sent que le retour des suédois en 2020 avec Refractions leur a donné envie de remettre le couvert rapidement. C’est avec un titre rapide mais boosté au gros riff stoner qu’ils ouvrent ce split. En milieu de morceau on a le droit à une superbe partie instu qui laisse au quatuor l’occasion de briller une première fois, avant de nous prendre à contrepied. En effet, « Caldera » nous emporte pour une dizaine de minutes de stoner rock de haute volée. Le riff lent du début se voit contrebalancer par de belles envolées par la suite et des lignes de chant qui restent en tête en quelques secondes. Si vous aimez la basse, le morceau « Into The Grey » est fait pour vous tant elle résonne fort dès l’intro pour ne plus nous lâcher. Les musiciens s’en donnent à cœur joie et ça se sent. Vient ensuite le temps de l’apparition d’Elephant Tree sur le titre « Through The Rift « . Et c’est la que le combo des deux groupes prend tout son sens puisqu’on retrouve autant un morceau très rock aux riffs bien stoner mais un beau boost de guitares psychés qui se mêle parfaitement au reste. Voilà comment clore une première partie de split de la plus belle des manières.
Quel plaisir de retrouver Elephant Tree et en particulier Jack Townley, chanteur et guitariste de la formation, après son accident qui aurait bien pu lui être fatal. C’est avec un morceau bien lent et bien psyché que les anglais démarrent ce voyage musical. C’est simple « Fucked In The Head » correspond parfaitement à son titre! On se laisse porter par les riffs magistraux et les lignes de basse et de batterie parfaites pour laisser nos esprits divaguer. On voit là encore que le groupe veut nous proposer son meilleur d’entrée de jeu, et croyez nous les souvenirs de leurs concerts reviennent vite en tête au son de ces nouveaux titres. La virtuosité des musiciens s’exprime toujours plus dans « 4 For 2 », véritable leçon de stoner avec la voix lente et diablement prenante de Jack qui nous tient en haleine tout au long du morceau. Enfin le groupe nous propose de retrouver Lowrider, pour le morceau titre de l’album! Et là autant dire qu’on se prend la déferlante du disque avec un titre des plus réussis mêlant parfaitement les univers des deux formations.
The Long Forever est un split qu’on a envie de se repasser en boucle tant il regorge de morceaux de grande qualité. Lowrider et Elephant Tree nous rappellent leur immense talent et nous livrent une sortie qui en met plein la vue. On adore le fait que deux morceaux fassent se retrouver les formations pour un mélange d’univers des plus intéressants à entendre. On vous encourage vivement à écouter ce split qui rentre des les plus belles sorties de l’année sans effort.

When Sweden’s Lowrider, with their stoner rock, and England’s Elephant Tree, with their psychedelic stoner, get together to do a split, you can already expect a top-quality album! Entitled The Long Forever, the split will be available from 25 October via Blues Funeral Recordings. With seven tracks in all, including two on which the bands worked together, there’s no doubt that this new release will be one to sink your teeth into.
It’s Lowrider who open the ball with ‘And The Horse You Rode In On’, and you can tell that the Swedes’ return in 2020 with Refractions made them want to get back into the swing of things. They open this split with a fast track, boosted by a big stoner riff. In the middle of the track we’re treated to a superb instu part that gives the quartet a chance to shine for the first time, before taking us by surprise. Caldera’ takes us away for ten minutes of high-flying stoner rock. The slow riff at the start is counterbalanced by some beautiful flights of fancy later on, and vocal lines that stick in your head for a few seconds. If you like bass, then ‘Into The Grey’ is the track for you, as it resonates loudly from the intro and never lets go. The musicians are giving it their all, and you can feel it. Next comes Elephant Tree on ‘Through The Rift’. And this is where the combo of the two bands really comes into its own, as we find a very rocky track with stoner riffs but a nice boost of psychedelic guitars that blend in perfectly with the rest. It’s a fitting end to the first part of the split.
It’s great to be back with Elephant Tree, and in particular Jack Townley, the band’s singer and guitarist, after his accident which could well have been fatal. The English band kick off their musical journey with a slow, psychedelic track. Fucked In The Head’ simply lives up to its title! You let yourself be carried away by the masterful riffs and the perfect bass and drum lines to let your mind wander. Once again, it’s clear that the band want to offer us their best right from the start, and believe us, memories of their concerts come flooding back as we listen to these new tracks. The musicians‘ virtuosity is even more apparent on “4 For 2”, a veritable lesson in stoner music, with Jack ’s slow, devilishly gripping vocals keeping us on the edge of our seats throughout. Finally, the band invites us back to Lowrider for the title track of the album! It’s one of the most successful tracks on the album, perfectly blending the worlds of the two bands.
The Long Forever is a split you’ll want to play over and over again, so packed is it with top-quality tracks. Lowrider and Elephant Tree remind us of their immense talent and deliver a stunning release. We love the fact that two tracks bring the two bands together in one of the most interesting mixes of worlds you’ll ever hear. We urge you to give this split a listen – it’s sure to become one of the year’s finest releases.
