Avant de pénétrer dans le froid hivernal, Tides From Nebula nous offre un album aux couleurs automnales. Le trio polonais revient après cinq ans pour partager Instant Rewards. Ce nouvel opus revisite leurs racines avec un post rock assez classique, tout en les entraînant vers de nouveaux horizons sonores. Ce sixième album sort le 8 novembre via leur propre label, Nebula Records.

On retrouve dans Instant Rewards les éléments classiques du post-rock : des morceaux instrumentaux longs qui s’étendent sans jamais paraître interminables, des riffs de guitare puissant et doux mais aussi une variations de rythmes qui ne cesse jamais. Tides From Nebula maîtrise cette recette depuis une quinzaine d’années, mais cela ne les empêche pas d’innover. Les deux premiers morceaux, “Burned To The Ground” et “The Great Song”, sont les plus longs et offrent une montée en puissance qui nous entraîne avec intensité dans la suite de l’album. Avec “Rhino”, le groupe atteint un pic d’énergie débordante, qui se calme dans le titre suivant, “Fearflood”. Dès le début de l’album, on perçoit des touches électro, mais celles-ci prennent véritablement leur place à partir de ce titre, ajoutant une dimension un peu plus moderne. En milieu de morceau, une pause presque silencieuse nous laisse suspendus avant de repartir.
Le titre “Flora” poursuit cette ambiance apaisée en introduisant des sonorités de guitare rappelant le son d’une guitare acoustique, conférant une esthétique plus lumineuse que celle des morceaux précédents. Dans la seconde moitié, le rythme s’accélère progressivement, et l’auditeur est pris dans une course poursuite qui mène au morceau suivant, “The Haunting”. Ce changement d’énergie, incontestable, révèle des influences orientées vers le metal, avec un tempo rapide et des riffs saturés qui confèrent au titre une puissance remarquable. “Ashes (reprise)” s’impose comme une interlude, avec une légèreté presque surnaturelle. Ce contraste est d’autant plus frappant avec “In The Blood”, qui commence sur un tempo lent mais qui s’intensifie progressivement, en changeant radicalement d’atmosphère. Initialement sombre et glauque, cette piste pourrait accompagner une scène de film intense avant de virer vers un ton plus léger et énergique à mesure que le tempo s’accélère. L’album se termine en beauté avec “The Sweetest Way To Die”, le premier single dévoilé par le groupe en 2022, annonciateur de l’univers d’Instant Rewards.
Avec Instant Rewards, Tides From Nebula nous plonge dans un univers sonore profondément atmosphérique et immersif. En renouant avec une approche moins commerciale et plus expérimentale, le trio revient à l’essence de leur son, en ajoutant des touches modernes sans renier leur identité. Les morceaux, très diversifiés, réinventent leur énergie et apportent une profondeur nouvelle à leur discographie. Chaque titre, tout en ayant une identité propre, contribue à une expérience globale cohérente, oscillant entre calme et puissance, nostalgie et renouveau.

Before the winter chill sets in, Tides From Nebula offer us an album with autumnal colours. The Polish trio return after five years to share Instant Rewards. This new opus revisits their roots with fairly classic post rock, while taking them into new sonic horizons. This sixth album will be released on 8 November via their own label, Nebula Records.

Instant Rewards has all the classic elements of post-rock: long instrumental pieces that stretch out without ever seeming endless, powerful yet gentle guitar riffs and a never-ending variation of rhythms. Tides From Nebula have mastered this recipe for some fifteen years, but that doesn’t stop them from innovating. The first two tracks, ‘Burned To The Ground’ and ‘The Great Song’, are the longest and offer a powerful build-up that draws us into the rest of the album with intensity. With ‘Rhino’, the band reach a peak of boundless energy, which subsides in the following track, ‘Fearflood’. Electro touches can be heard right from the start of the album, but they really come into their own from this track onwards, adding a slightly more modern dimension. In the middle of the track, there’s an almost silent pause that leaves us in suspense before we start again.
‘Flora’ continues this calming mood by introducing guitar tones reminiscent of an acoustic guitar, lending a brighter aesthetic than the previous tracks. In the second half, the pace gradually picks up, and the listener is caught up in a chase that leads into the next track, ‘The Haunting’. This unmistakable change of energy reveals metal influences, with a fast tempo and saturated riffs giving the track a remarkable power. ‘Ashes (reprise)’ establishes itself as an interlude, with an almost supernatural lightness. This contrast is all the more striking with ‘In The Blood’, which begins at a slow tempo but gradually intensifies, radically changing the atmosphere. Initially dark and gloomy, this track could accompany an intense film scene before veering towards a lighter, more energetic tone as the tempo picks up. The album ends on a high note with ‘The Sweetest Way To Die’, the first single unveiled by the band in 2022, heralding the world of Instant Rewards.
With Instant Rewards, Tides From Nebula plunge us into a deeply atmospheric and immersive sound universe. Taking a less commercial, more experimental approach, the trio return to the essence of their sound, adding modern touches without denying their identity. The diverse tracks reinvent their energy and add new depth to their discography. Each track, while having its own identity, contributes to a coherent overall experience, oscillating between calm and power, nostalgia and renewal.
