Dans le cadre du beau projet Live Entre Les Livres, qui permet à une sélection d’artistes balayant tout plein de genres musicaux de se produire dans les médiathèques des Hauts-De-France, nous avons pu assister à un concert à la Médiathèque Le Fil se situant à Hellemmes. Au programme un artiste que l’on suit depuis de nombreuses années et qui a toujours su nous émouvoir, Forest Pooky! C’est en acoustique et en solo qu’il se produit devant nous dans un cadre cosy et chaleureux. Les amateurs de l’artiste et les curieux se pressent pour ne rien manquer du set du musicien franco-américain.

L’atmosphère est posée d’entrée puisque à notre arrivée c’est bien Forest Pooky qui nous accueille en compagnie du personnel de la médiathèque. On sent déjà que l’ambiance sera au partage et à la bonne humeur partagée. Après une petite sessions accordage de guitare, qui sera un peu le maronier de cette soirée et dont le musicien s’amusera, il est temps pour la musique de résonner. Bien installés sur nos chaises nous voilà prêts pour une plongée dans l’univers musical de Forest. Les morceaux, tous chantés en Anglais, langue maternelle du compositeur, ont cette force de raconter des instants de vie dans lesquels chacun peut se reconnaître, même si les textes de notre hôte de ce soir sont très personnels. Chaque fin de morceau est l’occasion de nous présenter le précédent avec toujours une petite histoire qui l’accompagne, comme pour « Wallflower » et son retour sur des boums par toujours des plus agréables. Les émotions sont fortes ce soir et on comprendra vite la blague du chanteur en début de set sur le fait d’avoir chaque soir de nouvelles cordes tant il les fait vibrer avec force tout au long du set. Le set composé de morceaux issus des différents albums de Forest, ainsi que de un ou deux titres de ses autres (nombreux) projets, sera également ponctué de reprises. La première d’entre elles sera une magnifique version de « Life On Mars » de David Bowie, où Forest montrera que la puissance de sa voix colle parfaitement au morceau mythique. Le public est aux anges et n’hésite pas à répondre aux sollicitations du musicien avec enthousiasme. « If I Get Sick Of It » ou « What You’re Gonna Do » viennent nous réchauffer le cœur et nous donner envie de replonger au plus vite dans cette discographie foisonnante et toujours émouvante. Après nous avoir dit à quel point La Reine des Neiges 2 est un excellent Disney, Forest reprendra « You’re Welcome » morceau mythique de Vaiana avec brio et en réussissant parfaitement la partie rap chantée à l’origine par Dwayne Johnson. La musique de Forest Pooky continue d’illuminer notre début de soirée encore quelques temps avant que l’artiste nous annonce le dernier morceau. On profite de chaque note et de cette voix qu’on aime tant avant d’applaudir une dernière fois cet artiste qui nous fait tant vibrer.
Live entre les Livres est un beau projet qui permet de vivre des moments de musique ailleurs que dans une salle de concert. Cette première expérience fut belle et on hésitera pas à retenter l’expérience. On vous invite à suivre leurs réseaux et à aller découvrir des artistes près de chez vous, car oui les concerts sont gratuits!
Forest Pooky à quant à lui prouver une fois de plus qu’il est un grand musicien et un grand chanteur. Chaque instant de vie partagé ce soir résonnera en nous longtemps et continuera de nous accompagner à chaque nouvelle écoute de ses albums. On ne manquera pas de le retrouver très vite sur ses prochaines dates dans la région. Cette soirée fut définitivement Marvellous!

As part of the Live Entre Les Livres project, which enables a selection of artists from a wide range of musical genres to perform in the libraries of the Hauts-De-France region, we were able to attend a concert at the Médiathèque Le Fil in Hellemmes. On the programme was Forest Pooky, an artist we’ve been following for many years and who has always managed to move us! He’ll be performing solo, acoustic concerts in a warm and cosy setting. Fans and curious onlookers alike flock to see the Franco-American musician, so as not to miss a thing.

The atmosphere is set from the start, because when we arrive it’s Forest Pooky who greets us in the company of the media library staff. You can already feel that the atmosphere will be one of sharing and good humour. After a short guitar tuning session, which will be the highlight of the evening and which the musician will enjoy, it’s time for the music to start. Comfortably seated in our chairs, we’re ready to plunge into the musical world of Forest. The songs, all sung in English, the composer’s mother tongue, have the power to recount moments in life with which everyone can identify, even if the lyrics of our guest this evening are very personal. At the end of each track, the previous one is introduced, with a little bit of life thrown in for good measure, as in the case of ‘Wallflower’ and its return to dance parties that were not always the most pleasant. Emotions ran high tonight, and the singer’s joke at the start of the set about having new strings every night was quickly understood, as he made them vibrate so strongly throughout the set. The set, made up of tracks from Forest’s various albums, plus one or two from his other (many) projects, will also be punctuated by covers. The first of these was a magnificent version of David Bowie‘s ‘Life On Mars’, in which Forest showed that the power of his voice matched the legendary song perfectly. The audience was ecstatic, responding enthusiastically to the musician’s requests. ‘If I Get Sick Of It’ and “What You’re Gonna Do” warmed our hearts and made us want to dive back into this abundant and always moving discography as soon as possible. After telling us what an excellent Disney film Frozen 2 is, Forest covers Moana ‘s legendary song “You’re Welcome” with brio and a perfect performance of the rap part originally sung by Dwayne Johnson. Forest Pooky ‘s music continued to light up the early part of the evening for a while before the artist announced the final track. We take in every note and the voice we love so much, before applauding one last time for this artist who makes us so happy.
Live entre les Livres is a wonderful project that allows you to experience music in a setting other than a concert hall. It was a great first experience and we won’t hesitate to try it again. We invite you to follow their networks and discover artists near you, because yes, the concerts are free!
As for Forest Pooky, he proved once again that he’s a great musician and a great singer. Every moment of his life shared this evening will resonate with us for a long time to come, and will continue to do so with each new listen to his albums. We’ll be sure to catch up with him on his forthcoming dates in the region. This was definitely a Marvellous evening!
