Toujours dans l’envie de découvrir du post rock on est tombé par hasard sur Youtube sur un titre de There’s a Light, groupe venu d’Allemagne. Et là surprise le groupe sort un split avec un autre groupe allemand, Noir Reva. C’est donc intrigués qu’on vous propose de découvrir avec nous Anam Cara sorti le 15 novembre dernier via Broken Youth Records.

C’est donc parti pour la partie de There’s a Light avec « Embers ». Le rythme lent nous plonge doucement dans ce premier des deux titres du groupe sur ce split et on est déjà conquis. Les guitares de David Christmann et Markus Dold offrent de jolies nappes qui montent en puissance jusqu’à une explosion servie par la batterie puissante de Jan Lüftner, plus en retrait jusque là. On continue de plus belle avec une rythmique un peu plus dansante en deuxième partie de titre avec la basse d’Andreas Richau qui prend un peu plus de place pour notre plus grand plaisir. Jonas Obermüller aux claviers, et le reste du groupe a beaucoup écouté le premier album de BRUIT ≤, tant l’intro du second titre renvoie à celle de « Industry », morceau d’ouverture du disque des toulousains, c’est dire l’impact de la formation sur le post rock actuel! Mais la patte There’s a Light est bien présente et on se retrouve avec « Aporia » avec une deuxième composition très puissante où les napes de guitare, de claviers et les rythmiques nous font voyager loin. Andreas Richau nous fait même découvrir sa voix en fin de morceau, pour un final en apothéose.
C’est au tour de Noir Reva de nous proposer deux titres, et on commence avec « Svartur ». L’intro montre déjà de belles choses avec une voix d’opéra s’élevant au loin avec ensuite la guitare de Robby faisant son apparition sur une rythmique très très marquée post rock. Le groupe marque d’entrée par son son majestueux qui vient nous envouter. La batterie de Lucas alterne entre puissance et douceur quand il le faut tandis que la basse de Marius virevolte tout au long de ce premier titre. Le quatuor est complété par Peter qui ajoute une seconde guitare pour des harmonies toutes plus belles les unes que les autres. On sent là aussi un gros travail sur l’ambiance qui se confirme dans le second titre proposé par le groupe dans ce split. Plus doux il nous montre une autre facette de la formation allemande, toute aussi prenante que la première. On se laisse porter jusqu’à finir le voyage en ayant fait une très belle découverte musicale.
Anam Cara est une très belle manière de découvrir les univers de There’s A Light et Noir Reva. Les deux formations allemandes s’inscrivent dans un post rock toujours plus foisonnant d’idées tout en allant piocher ça et là dans ce qui se fait de mieux dans le genre. On vous incite à aller écouter ce split et à découvrir les discographies respectives des deux formations d’outre-rhin.

Still keen to discover post rock, we stumbled across a track by German band There’s a Light on YouTube. And then, surprise, the band released a split with another German group, Noir Reva. So, intrigued, we invite you to join us in discovering Anam Cara, released on 15 November via Broken Youth Records.
So it’s off to the There’s a Light part with ‘Embers’. The slow tempo plunges us gently into the first of the band’s two tracks on this split, and we’re already won over. The guitars of David Christmann and Markus Dold offer up some lovely layers that build in power until an explosion served up by the powerful drums of Jan Lüftner, who has been more in the background until now. The second half of the track continues with a more danceable rhythm section and Andreas Richau ‘s bass takes up a little more space, much to our delight. Jonas Obermüller on keyboards, and the rest of the band, have listened a lot to BRUIT‘s first album ≤ so much so that the intro to the second track is reminiscent of that of “Industry”, the opening track on the Toulouse band’s album, which just goes to show the band’s impact on today’s post-rock scene! But the There’s a Light touch is there, and with ‘Aporia’ we find ourselves with a second, very powerful composition where the guitar, keyboards and rhythmic noises take us far afield. Andreas Richau even lets us discover his voice at the end of the track, for a grand finale.
It’s Noir Reva ‘s turn to offer us two tracks, and we start with “Svartur”. The intro is already a beautiful sight, with an operatic voice soaring into the distance, followed by Robby ‘s guitar over a very, very post rock rhythm. The band’s majestic sound is a real eye-catcher from the outset. Lucas ‘s drums alternate between power and softness when needed, while Marius ’s bass twirls throughout the first track. The quartet is rounded off by Peter , who adds a second guitar for some beautiful harmonies. There’s also a great deal of work on the ambience, which is confirmed in the second track on the split. This softer track shows us a different side to the German band, just as gripping as the first. We’re carried along until we finish the journey having made a wonderful musical discovery.
Anam Cara is a great way to discover the worlds of There’s A Light and Noir Reva. The two German bands have developed a post rock sound that’s ever more full of ideas, while drawing on the best of the genre here and there.
