Les italiens de Last Eon, nous proposent en cette fin d’année de découvrir leur second album, six ans après Before I close my eyes sorti en 2018. Intitulé Wooden Bodies, il s’agit du premier album depuis l’inclusion de Riccardo Bianchi (A Giant Echo) aux claviers. Il sera disponible dès le 22 novembre en auto production. C’est parti pour une plongée dans le post rock alternatif du groupe originaire de Cassino.

On se lance dans l’écoute avec « Stepping on the fallen leaves » qui nous surprend avec l’apparition quasi instantanée de la voix de Sergio Todisco (A Giant Echo). Rare dans le post rock on aime en retrouver ici au centre des morceaux. On retrouve les napes de guitares et de claviers inhérentes au style mais avec une approche plus accessible qui peut clairement plaire au plus grand nombre. On garde les émotions au cœur de la musique, en particulier avec les guitares de Sergio Todisco et Fabiano Pittiglio qui viennent nous cueillir pour ne plus nous lâcher. Emanuele Tartaglia nous montre ses talents de batteur de la plus belle des manières sur l’intro de « Old Tune (Albert) » avec un jeu tout en subtilité où on sent que plusieurs types de baguettes ont été utilisées pour varier les sonorités. Ce morceau nous renvoie à une ambiance définitivement post rock qui nous comble et nous donne envie de plonger encore plus loin dans l’univers des italiens. Riccardo Bianchi offre avec ses claviers des atmosphères oniriques parfois même spectrales sur le bien nommé « Love spectre dying ». La voix fait d’ailleurs son retour sur ce titre avec de belles harmonies vocales qui s’ajoutent aux magiifiques parties instrumentales. Le tempo gagne en intensité au court du titre et laisse la basse de Alessandro Prete nous montrer toute sa puissance. Les constructions rythmiques des titres sont clairement à saluer et la suite de nous fera pas mentir pour notre plus grand plaisir. On termine doucement avec « Lost Tales » qui viens montrer une dernière fois la grande force de composition du groupe avec un titre tout en finesse qui nous laisse plonger dans nos souvenirs les plus enfouis de la plus belle des manières.
Avec Wooden Bodies, Last Eon offrent un album très réussi. Ils gardent l’essence du post rock que l’on aime tant tout en y insufflant d’autres influences qui font de leurs compositions des pièces uniques que l’on a envie d’écouter à l’envie. On vous encourage vivement à aller découvrir cet album et on espère voir le groupe sur les routes très bientôt. Nous, on part de ce pas écouter leur album précédent.

As the year draws to a close, Italy’s Last Eon bring us their second album, six years after Before I close my eyes , released in 2018. Entitled Wooden Bodies, it is the first album since the inclusion of Riccardo Bianchi (A Giant Echo) on keyboards. It will be available on self-release from November 22nd. Let’s take a plunge into the alternative post rock of the band from Cassino.
‘Stepping on the fallen leaves’ takes us by surprise, with the almost instantaneous appearance of the voice of Sergio Todisco (A Giant Echo). It’s a rarity in post rock, and one that we love to find at the heart of the tracks here. We find the guitar and keyboard noises inherent in the style, but with a more accessible approach that will clearly appeal to the widest possible audience. Emotions remain at the heart of the music, particularly with the guitars of Sergio Todisco and Fabiano Pittiglio, which grab you and never let go. Emanuele Tartaglia shows off his drumming talents in the most beautiful way on the intro to ‘Old Tune (Albert)’, playing with subtlety and with the sense that several types of drumstick have been used to vary the sounds. This track takes us back to a definitively post-rock ambience that delights us and makes us want to plunge even further into the world of the Italians. Riccardo Bianchi ‘s keyboards create a dreamy, sometimes even spectral atmosphere on the aptly named “Love spectre dying”. The voice also makes a comeback on this track, with beautiful vocal harmonies adding to the magical instrumental parts. The tempo increases in intensity as the track progresses, allowing Alessandro Prete ‘s bass to show off all its power. The rhythmic construction of the tracks is clearly to be commended, and the rest of the album is no exception, much to our delight. We finish gently with ‘Lost Tales’, which shows off the band’s compositional strength one last time, with a subtle track that lets us plunge into our deepest memories in the most beautiful of ways.
Last Eon ‘s Wooden Bodies is a highly successful album. They retain the essence of the post rock that we love so much, while infusing it with other influences that make their compositions unique pieces that we want to listen to over and over again.
