La scène hardcore semble aux beaux fixes dans les terres du nord, alors quand un des groupes les plus impressionnants de la scène est de passage à The Black Lab, c’est des gens de toute la région qui affluent. Cerbère Coryphée, en partenariat avec Taste of Mind nous ont concoctés une soirée pas piqué des hannetons avec les canadiens de Get The Shot qui ont apporté avec eux le froid glacial, les rennais de Hard Mind et nos locaux de Sick Nerves.

Alors que tout le public s’est couvert en conséquence en ce jeudi 22, sortant gros pull, écharpe et bonnet pour affronter le froid et le sol gelé, il y a bien un endroit où il va falloir vite de découvrir, et c’est en plein cœur du pit ! Sick Nerves débarquent sur la scène du Black Lab, pendant que le public forme déjà la piste de mosh. Comme à chaque concert de hardcore, et encore plus de la part de nos locaux, c’est une boucherie qui va se déployer ce soir. On reconnait pas mal de petite tête, pour beaucoup membre d’autres groupes ou d’orga de hxc locaux, et on se doute très vite de ce qu’il va se passer. Sick Nerves vont nous proposer un set sacrément féroce. Il n’y a pas à dire, leur hardcore est d’une efficacité sans nom. De très bons rythmes qui lancent un plateau entier de 2-steps. Le groupe va même en profiter pour faire une petite reprise de Hatebreed, qui ont eux-même fouler la scène du black lab l’année derniere. On passe un super moment à leur côté, et nous voici avec une salle bien chaude pour enchainer sur les deux prochains sets.
On continue la soirée en compagnie de Hard Mind, tout droit venu de Rennes. Leur set est plein de convictions, et cela dès les premiers instants en présentant un titre pour ceux qui se bougent dans les manifestations. Le public est encore loin d’être épuisé et va nous proposer de beaux moments de mosh. Un wall of death fait son apparition sur un titre pour les ouvriers et contre les actionnaires, au cas où vous auriez des doutes sur les paroles de leur chanson. Le groupe va prendre le temps de souligner la force de la scène hxc des Hauts de France, en dédicant un de leur morceau sur la Westside Hardcore Scene à Emile, gérant de Taste of Mind. Pendant que la double pédale fait son effet, nous sommes assez captivé par la prestance du groupe, bien ancré et prends à vous foutre une belle claque pendant qu’on esquive les moulinets dans la fosse. Le groupe finira son set plein de rage contre les néo-nazi, les gens qui fréquentent la Citadelle (lieu de réunion des fasciste Lillois), contre l’extrême droite en général. Une prestation impeccable ce soir qui nous mets déjà K.O alors que le plus dur reste à venir.
La salle commence à être bien dense lorsque Get The Shot font leur montée sur scène sur du Metallica. Quel bonheur de voir le groupe dans un pays francophone ! Nos deux dernières rencontres avec le groupe se sont faites en Belgique flamande puis aux Pays-Bas, nous laissant guère occasion d’entendre le groupe nous parler avec leur superbe accent Québécois. C’est chose faite ce soir. Un premier titre déjà plein de rage, où Jean Philippe Lagacé va déjà faire un tour dans la fosse pour tirer le public au plus proche de la scène, pour ensuite se faire porter sur le deuxième morceau. Alors si vous avez déjà vu GTS en live, vous savez qu’ils sont friands de stage dive, et ils ne vont pas s’en cacher. Nous aurions du compter le nombre de « STAGE DIVE » crié par le groupe, mais on mise sur une centaine. Une bonne partie du public découvre le groupe ce soir, et c’est un pur plaisir de voir qu’ils vont découvrir mais aussi participer vivement à cette ambiance électrique. Nous sommes clairement au cœur d’un vraie essaim de gesticulation et autre acrobatie ce soir. C’est un bain de sang qui se forme sur des titres immanquables de leur discographie, comme le tout nouveau « Dominant Predation » qui vient taper fort, ou le désormais célèbre « Blackened Sun ». Jean-Philippe ne va cesser d’interagir avec le public, que ce soit en criant « Je veux voir du sang, du chaos, foutez moi le bordel« , qu’en faisant s’accroupir le public avant de les inciter à prendre pour cible les 5-6 qui ne jouent pas le jeu dans la salle. Derrière cette casquette plein de violence, nous aurons quand même droit à de beaux discours comme « Les concerts ne sont pas qu’un évènement, mais un vrai sentiment d’existence dans un monde où l’on a l’impression de ne pas être à sa place. C’est normal de se sentir étranger dans ce monde qui ne veut pas de nous, dans une société conformiste, mais des lieux comme ici permettent de se sentir à notre place peu importe qui nous sommes, d’où l’on vient, nous sommes une communauté« . De belles phrases qui résument parfaitement ce que l’on ressent d’être au cœur même d’une scène. Tout le monde passe un merveilleux moment, que ce soit dans le public que sur scène, et Dany Fisher à la basse remerciera grandement le public Lillois de lui faire passer un de ses meilleurs concerts. Alors que le public est déjà à bout de souffle après plus de 40 minutes intenses, Jean Philippe nous lance un « Maintenant que vous êtes bien échauffé ». On comprends instantanément que nous sommes loin d’avoir fini, et on vient puiser dans le peu d’énergie qui nous reste pour porter le leader et ses 130kg de muscles au dessus de tout le monde. C’est un show littéralement à couper le souffle qui nous est présenté, une belle date que The Black Lab se souviendra bien longtemps, nous donnant envie de voir encore plus de groupe de hxc sur cette scène, ayant déjà accueilli Terror, Hatebreed, ou encore Sick Of It All. Comment conclure ? Vous n’avez jamais vu Get The Shot ? Ne les manquez pas dès leur prochain passage !

The hardcore scene seems to be at a standstill in the northern lands, so when one of the scene’s most impressive bands comes to The Black Lab, people from all over the region flock. Taste of Mind, in partnership with Cerbère Coryphée, concocted an evening to remember, with Canadians Get The Shot bringing the icy cold with them, Rennes’ Hard Mind and our locals Sick Nerves.

While the entire audience has covered up accordingly on this Thursday 22nd, pulling out sweaters, scarves and hats to face the cold and frozen ground, there’s one place where you’re going to have to find out fast, and that’s right in the heart of the pit! Sick Nerves take to the Black Lab stage, with the crowd already forming the mosh pit. As with every hardcore concert, and even more so from our locals, it’s a butcher’s shop that unfolds tonight. We recognize quite a few small heads, many of them members of other bands or local hxc orgs, and we quickly suspect what’s about to happen. Sick Nerves are going to offer us one hell of a ferocious set. There’s no denying that their hardcore is unmistakably effective. Great rhythms that launch an entire set of 2-steps. The band even take the opportunity to do a cover of Hatebreed, who themselves graced the black lab stage last year. We have a great time with them, and we’re left with a hot room for the next two sets.
We continue the evening with Hard Mind, straight from Rennes. Their set is full of convictions, right from the start, with a song for those who take action at demonstrations. The crowd is still far from exhausted, and offers us some great mosh moments. A Wall of Death appears on a song for workers and against shareholders, in case you had any doubts about the lyrics. The band take the time to underline the strength of the Hauts de France hxc scene, dedicating one of their Westside Hardcore Scene tracks to Emile, manager of Taste of Mind. As the double pedal kicks in, we’re captivated by the band’s presence, firmly anchored and ready to slap you in the face while we dodge the reels in the pit. The band finish their set full of rage against neo-Nazis, people who frequent the Citadelle (Lille’s facist meeting place), and the extreme right in general. An impeccable performance this evening, which has already knocked us out, with the hardest part still to come.
The room starts to fill up as Get The Shot take to the stage to a Metallica soundtrack. What a pleasure to see the band in a French-speaking country! Our last two encounters with the band were in Dutch Belgium and then the Netherlands, leaving us little opportunity to hear them speak to us in their superb Quebec accent. Tonight we have. The first track is already full of rage, with Jean Philippe Lagacé already taking a turn in the pit to pull the audience closer to the stage, before being carried away on the second track. So if you’ve ever seen GTS live, you know they’re fond of stage dives, and they’re not going to hide it. We should have counted the number of “STAGE DIVE” screamed by the band, but we’re betting on around a hundred. A good proportion of the audience are new to the band tonight, and it’s a pure pleasure to see that they’re not only discovering the band, but also taking part in this electric atmosphere. We’re clearly in the midst of a veritable swarm of gesticulation and acrobatics tonight. It’s a bloodbath that forms on unmissable tracks from their discography, such as the brand-new, hard-hitting “Dominant Predation”, or the now-celebrated “Blackened Sun”. Jean-Philippe never ceases to interact with the audience, whether shouting “I want to see blood, I want to see chaos, fuck me up”, or making the audience crouch down before inciting them to target the 5-6 people in the room who don’t play along. Behind this cap full of violence, we’re still treated to some fine speeches such as “Concerts aren’t just an event, but a real sense of existence in a world where you feel out of place. It’s normal to feel like an outsider in a world that doesn’t want us, in a conformist society, but places like this allow us to feel like we belong, no matter who we are or where we come from, we are a community”. Beautiful phrases that perfectly sum up what it feels like to be at the very heart of a scene. Everyone has a wonderful time, both in the audience and on stage, and Dany Fisher on bass will be thanking the Lille crowd for giving him one of his best concerts ever. With the audience already out of breath after more than 40 intense minutes, Jean Philippe calls out “Now that you’ve warmed up”. We understand instantly that we’re far from finished, and we draw on what little energy we have left to carry the leader and his 130kg of muscles above everyone else. It’s a show that literally takes your breath away, and one that The Black Lab will remember for a long time to come, making us want to see even more hxc bands on this stage, which has already welcomed Terror, Hatebreed and Sick Of It All. How to conclude? Never seen Get The Shot? Don’t miss them on their next visit!
