Afin de terminer le week-end tout en musique, nous nous sommes rendus au Black Lab ce dimanche 1er décembre pour une date proposée par Cerbère Coryphée. Monkey3 ouvre donc ce dernier mois de l’année. Et ce sera une date avec uniquement les suisses, pour profiter comme il se doit et sur une belle durée de leurs titres instrumentaux.

La salle a ouvert tôt en ce dimanche, mais c’est bien vers 20h15 que Monkey3 monte sur scène. Le Black Lab est bien rempli pour cette soirée qui s’annonce exceptionnelle. D’entrée de jeu, les Suisses nous happent avec leur sonorité planante, aux accents psychédéliques. Le concert s’ouvre sur “Collapse”, qui a des airs des plus belles parties instrumentales de Pink Floyd. La basse est par moment très présente, lourde. Elle résonne en nous et nous fait vivre encore plus intensément les compositions du groupe. Les vidéos en arrière-fond nous plongent dans l’univers de Monkey3, variant au gré des titres, et notamment des albums desquels ils proviennent. Les morceaux sont puissants et évolutifs. Ils racontent une histoire, en plusieurs chapitres. Pour ce faire, ils sont très longs, nous immergeant totalement dans les émotions qu’ils ont à cœur de véhiculer. On vibre avec le groupe, notre rythme se calant sur le leur. Entre grande envolées, riffs mélodiques se mêlant à la basse profonde et sonorités psychédéliques, on en prend plein les oreilles. Chaque titre est méticuleusement travaillé, avec des influences allant chercher dans le stoner, le post rock, parfois même dans la lourdeur du doom.
Monkey3 nous prouve que la communication ne passe pas toujours par le verbal, mais bien par les notes, les rythmes, les nuances qui se répercutent dans nos corps pour créer toutes sortes d’émotions. Chaque titre du set est percutant, vivant. On ferme parfois les yeux pour se concentrer sur nos ressentis propres. Puis parfois on les rouvre pour sentir ce partage avec le groupe. On découvre la quasi entièreté de Welcome to The Machine, dernier album sorti en février 2024 et qui avait séduit la rédaction. Celui-ci prend vie devant nous, et confirme la puissance des titres qui le composent. Même si on ne connaît pas la discographie du groupe, on peut deviner quels titres sont sur le même album. En effet, les ambiances données à chacun sont uniques. En allant piocher dans leurs différentes sorties, le groupe nous fait voyager dans des univers différents. Les musiciens quittent la scène après environ 1h15 de show, avant de revenir avec une puissance impressionnante. Ils nous offrent une dernière fois toute leur palette musicale, sortant sous les acclamations amplement méritées du public.
Monkey3 se suffisait totalement à lui-même, et ce show unique sur la soirée était un très bon choix. Chacune des compositions nous a agrippé, fait voyager, autant dans les univers du groupe qu’au sein de nos propres ressentis. Encore une très belle soirée organisée par Cerbère Coryphée!

To round off the weekend in style, we headed to Black Lab on Sunday 1 December for a date put on by Cerbère Coryphée. Monkey3 kicks off the last month of the year. And it’s a date with just the Swiss, so you can enjoy their instrumental tracks for as long as you like.

The venue opened early on this Sunday, but it was not until 8.15pm that Monkey3 took to the stage. The Black Lab is packed for what promises to be an exceptional evening. From the outset, the Swiss band lure us in with their soaring, psychedelic sound. The concert opens with ‘Collapse’, which sounds like one of Pink Floyd‘s most beautiful instrumental parts. The bass is very present and heavy at times. It resonates within us and makes us experience the band’s compositions even more intensely. The videos in the background plunge us into the world of Monkey3, varying according to the tracks, and in particular the albums from which they come. The tracks are powerful and evolving. They tell a story, in several chapters. To do this, they are very long, immersing us totally in the emotions they are keen to convey. We vibrate with the band, our rhythm matching theirs. Between soaring, melodic riffs blending with deep bass and psychedelic sounds, we’re in for an earful. Each track is meticulously crafted, with influences ranging from stoner and post rock to the heaviness of doom.
Monkey3 proves that communication isn’t always about words, but about the notes, rhythms and nuances that reverberate through our bodies to create all kinds of emotions. Each track in the set is hard-hitting and lively. Sometimes we close our eyes to concentrate on our own feelings. Then sometimes you open them again to feel you’re sharing with the band. We discover almost the entirety of Welcome to The Machine, the last album released in February 2024 and which seduced the editorial team. This one comes to life before our very eyes, and confirms the power of the tracks on it. Even if you don’t know the band’s discography, you can guess which tracks are on the same album. Indeed, the mood of each track is unique. Drawing on their various releases, the band take us on a journey to different worlds. The musicians leave the stage after about 1 hour 15 minutes, before returning with impressive power. They offer us their full musical palette one last time, leaving to the amply deserved acclaim of the audience.
Monkey3 was totally self-sufficient, and this one-off show for the evening was a very good choice. Each of their songs took us on a journey, both into the world of the band and our own feelings. Another great evening organised by Cerbère Coryphée!
