Ca fait déjà de nombreuses années que les californiens de Touché Amoré nous touchent avec leur post hardcore/screamo des plus émouvants. Cette année le groupe a sorti son sixième album, Spiral In A Straight Line, via Rise Records le 11 octobre dernier. Onze nouveaux titres qu’on avait hâte de découvrir et donc on vous parle avec grand plaisir.

Quel plaisir de retrouver dès « Nobody’s » les riffs de Clayton Stevens et Nick Steinhardt qui vous prennent aux tripes accompagnés de la voix toujours aussi émouvante de Jeremy Bolm. Le groupe frappe fort d’entrée et les titres suivants nous rappellent à quel point Touché Amoré ont le chic pour en quelques minutes mettre tout le monde d’accord avec des morceaux où la détresse et les combats personnels sont au cœur des paroles. Tyler Kirby à la basse et Elliot Babin à la batterie forment un duo rythmique puissant qui vient avec des rythmes des plus variés ajouter une envie certaine de remuer malgré tous ces sentiments forts qui nous traversent. D’ailleurs les rythmiques changent de titre en titre mais souvent à l’intérieur même d’un titre pour notre plus grand plaisir. « Face Of Habit » vient nous rappeler le meilleur de La Dispute, groupe avec qui les Californiens ont déjà sorti un split en 2010 et avec qui ils ont tourné plusieurs fois. Autant vous dire que nos âmes sont pleinement plongés dans cette musique très très émouvante et ça n’est pas « Altitude » qui nous contredira! Le groupe continue de nous proposer son tout meilleur au fil de l’album avec des titres qui rejoignent vite nos morceaux favoris de la formation, comme « Finalist ». Il est temps pour la formation californienne d’accueillir sur « Subversion (Brand New Love) » son premier invité de l’album, qui n’est autre que Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr.). Le titre, une fois de plus, émouvant à souhait nous laisse redécouvrir avec joie cette voix si importante du rock US dans une composition mêlant parfaitement les univers de Touché Amoré et du musicien. L’album se clôt avec un deuxième featuring avec Julien Baker, guitariste et chanteuse connue autant pour son travail solo que pour son supergroupe Boygenius. Là encore la sauce prend parfaitement et on quitte les californiens sur un titre qui nous reste en tête instantanément.
Touché Amoré ont encore frappé fort avec Spiral In A Straight Line! L’album regorge de titres tous plus puissants émotionnellement les uns que les autres. Les californiens ont clairement proposé un album qui restera comme une sublime pierre de plus à un édifice déjà bien solide. On n’a qu’une hâte, retrouver le groupe en live lors de leur tournée européenne de janvier/févier prochain, dont certaines dates affichent déjà complet ou ont été déplacées dans des salles plus grandes à la vue de la vitesse de vente des tickets.

For many years now, California’s Touché Amoré have been touching us with their moving post-hardcore/screamo. This year the band released their sixth album, Spiral In A Straight Line, via Rise Records on 11 October. Eleven new tracks that we couldn’t wait to get our hands on, so we’re delighted to tell you all about them.
What a pleasure it is to find Clayton Stevens and Nick Steinhardt‘s gut-wrenching riffs on ‘Nobody’s’, accompanied by Jeremy Bolm‘s moving vocals. The band hit hard right from the start, and the following tracks remind us just how Touché Amoré have the knack of getting everyone to agree in a matter of minutes, with songs where distress and personal struggles are at the heart of the lyrics. Tyler Kirby on bass and Elliot Babin on drums form a powerful rhythmic duo whose varied rhythms add a definite desire to move despite all the strong feelings running through us. In fact, the rhythms change from track to track, and often within a track itself, much to our delight. ‘Face Of Habit’ reminds us of the best of La Dispute, a band with whom the Californians have already released a split in 2010 and with whom they have toured several times. You might as well say that our souls are fully immersed in this very, very moving music, and ‘Altitude’ won’t contradict us! The band continue to deliver their very best throughout the album, with tracks such as ‘Finalist’ quickly joining the band’s favourites. On ‘Subversion (Brand New Love)’, the Californian band welcomes its first guest of the album, none other than Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr.). Once again, the track is as moving as you could wish, letting us rediscover this important voice of US rock in a composition that perfectly blends the worlds of Touché Amoré and the musician. The album closes with a second featuring with Julien Baker, guitarist and singer known as much for her solo work as for her supergroup Boygenius. Once again, it’s a perfect fit, and we leave the Californians on a track that instantly sticks in our heads.
Touché Amoré have struck hard again with Spiral In A Straight Line! The album is packed with tracks, each more emotionally powerful than the last. The Californians have clearly come up with an album that will go down as a sublime addition to an already solid edifice. We can’t wait to see the band live again on their European tour next January/February, some dates of which are already sold out or have been moved to bigger venues due to the speed with which tickets are selling out.
