Dès les premières notes de « the pain ends when you let go », une atmosphère sombre et lugubre s’installe, nous introduisant dans un espace introspectif et émotionnel. Ce morceau d’ouverture, lent mais captivant, donne le ton d’un disque qui alterne entre intensité brute et moments plus calmes et profonds. Les puissants riffs et breakdowns de « The Midnight Sun » brisent rapidement le calme initial, présentant une énergie frénétique et obsédante. Ce morceau, qui contient les paroles qui donnent son titre à l’album, attire immédiatement l’attention et établit une dynamique solide pour les chansons à venir.
