Né en 2017, le groupe italien Chivàla s’est fait un nom sur la scène italienne screamo et post hardcore. Avec déjà deux EP de sortis leur ayant permis de tourner un peu partout en Italie ils se sont penché sur la création de leur premier album, que l’on vous présente ici. Intitulé Boato, il est disponible depuis le 27 décembre via Fireflies Fall et Stonehenge en France, Shove Records en Italie et tout un tas d’autres labels indépendants à travers le monde! C’est parti pour sept titres qui vont sans aucun doute nous toucher au cœur.

L’album démarre fort avec « Oggetto Di Scena » qui nous présente des riffs de guitare d’une douceur folle. Des envolées sonores marquées par un jeu de basse et batterie tout aussi enlevé qui s’accélère dans les refrains. La chant alternant entre parlé chanté et hurlé prend aux tripes en quelques instants en nous rappelant des groupes qui nous font vibrer depuis de nombreuses années comme Touché Amoré ou Birds In Row. Même si les paroles ne sont pas totalement compréhensibles pour nos oreilles de voisins transalpins, on se laisse porter par la puissance du chant et par les émotions qu’on ressent à l’écoute de ces morceaux. Les riffs de « Cuore Di Pietra » viennent parfaitement accompagner le chant pour former un tout des plus émouvants et prenants. On imagine aisément se perdre pendant des concerts dans ces titres puissants qui arrivent en quelques instants à nous prendre aux tripes, en particulier avec les refrains faits pour être repris en chœur. Parfois comme sur « Non Lascia Nulla » le son se fait plus incisif et taillé pour remuer dans la fosse, mais tout en gardant cette émotion qui nous tient depuis les premières secondes. « Alla Fine Della Corsa » confirme une fois de plus tout le bien qu’on pense de l’album avec cette rythmique toujours plus captivante qui évolue de nombreuses fois au fil du morceau, tout en gardant une unité forte. L’album se clôt avec « Rumore Dei Passi », morceau nostalgique à souhait faisant briller le chant une dernière fois et venant nous coller de nouveaux des frissons, signe de la puissance des compositions des italiens.
Clairement dans les très belles sorties de fin d’année, ce premier album de Chivàla nous fait découvrir l’incroyable vitalité de la scène screamo italienne! Sept titres qui restent en tête et qu’on a envie de se repasser en boucle, avec toujours de belles émotions fortes qui passent, voilà ce que le groupe nous propose. On ne peut que vous encourager à foncer découvrir l’album qui rejoins la liste de nos très belles découvertes de 2024! Rendez vous très vite pour les premières chroniques de 2025!

Born in 2017, Italian band Chivàla has made a name for itself on the Italian screamo and post-hardcore scene. With two EPs already out, having toured all over Italy, they’ve now turned their attention to creating their debut album, which we present to you here. Entitled Boato, it has been available since December 27 via Fireflies Fall and Stonehenge in France, Shove Records in Italy and a host of other independent labels around the world! Here we go with seven tracks that are sure to touch our hearts.
The album gets off to a strong start with “Oggetto Di Scena”, featuring insanely smooth guitar riffs. These sonic flights of fancy are marked by equally spirited bass and drum work, which accelerates in the choruses. The vocals, alternating between sung and screamed, are instantly gripping, reminding us of bands that have been thrilling us for years, such as Touché Amoré and Birds In Row. Even if the lyrics aren’t totally comprehensible to our transalpine ears, we let ourselves be carried away by the power of the vocals and the emotions we feel when listening to these tracks. The riffs of “Cuore Di Pietra” are a perfect accompaniment to the vocals, forming a most moving and gripping whole. It’s easy to imagine getting lost in these powerful tracks over the course of several concerts, and in just a few moments they’re able to grab you by the guts, particularly with the choruses, which are made to be taken up in chorus. Sometimes, as on “Non Lascia Nulla”, the sound becomes more incisive and tailored to stir up the crowd, but still retaining the emotion that has gripped us from the very first seconds. “Alla Fine Della Corsa” once again confirms all the good things we think of the album, with its increasingly captivating rhythm that evolves many times over the course of the track, while maintaining a strong unity. The album closes with “Rumore Dei Passi”, a nostalgic track that lets the vocals shine one last time and once again sends shivers down our spines, a sign of the power of the Italians’ compositions.
Clearly one of the finest releases of the end of the year, Chivàla‘s debut album reveals the incredible vitality of the Italian screamo scene! Seven tracks that stay in your head and make you want to play them over and over again, with always strong emotions running through, that’s what the band has to offer.
