Dans une formation digne d’un supergroupe, Sons of Silver sort en ce début 2025 son premier album, Runaway Emotions , après plusieurs EP et singles. Armé de talents qui ne sont plus à prouver ayant officié notamment dans Goo Goo Dolls ou encore Candlebox, le groupe nous promet des titres old school, percutants et d’une qualité folle. Entièrement auto-produit, l’album a été mixé par Tim Palmer ( ayant également travaillé avec David Bowie, The Cure, U2…). A découvrir dès ce 10 janvier via 4L Entertainment, on vous propose un petit avant-goût de cette belle sortie.

Le single “Tell Me This”, paru en février 2024, il y a donc presque un an, ouvre l’album. On y entend directement l’énergie rock old school que le groupe veut nous transmettre. Les talents reconnus qui forment ce super groupe mettent toutes leurs expériences au service de ce projet et lui confèrent une dimension d’une rare qualité. C’est autour de Peter Argyropoulos (aka Pete RG, ici au chant et à la guitare rythmique) et de sa plume que se regroupent Adam Kury (basse, Candlebox), Kevin Haaland (guitariste, Skillet), Marc Slutsky (batterie, The Goo Goo Dolls, Peter Murphy…). Le clavier, présent dans certains titres est assuré par Brina Kabler, également ingénieure son de l’album.
Cette ligne directrice de rock’n’roll old school nous guide tout au long de Runaway Emotions, chaque titre étant pourtant assez différent, chacun apportant sa nuance à la palette d’émotions dépeintes. “Just Getting Started” est un peu plus lent et jazzy lui conférant une petite énergie sensuelle. “Running” nous ramène dans l’esprit Dire Straits notamment sur le phrasé, l’intonation et la coloration de la voix de Peter Argypopoulos. De manière générale, on navigue vraiment sur les années allant de 60’s à fin 70’s sur tout cet album. “Baby Hang On” démarre sur des influences rockabilly modernisées avant de partir sur un classic rock qui donne envie de foncer vitre ouverte sur une longue route toute droite. “Ghost”, tout en restant dans cet esprit, a un côté parfois un peu plus épique grâce à un clavier bien présent, notamment dans le refrain. “Nobody Minds” est un peu plus agressif, autant dans la voix que dans les riffs des couplets, tranchant avec les refrains très mélodiques et musicalement plus légers. A l’instar de “Warning Signs” qui est très explicite, les titres sont plutôt des cris d’alerte face aux dangers qui guettent le monde, mais avec ce fond rock’n’roll porteur et rassembleur. L’album se referme d’ailleurs sur “Friends”, magnifique balade dans laquelle le piano prend le dessus, légèrement soutenu par un clavier tout en douceur, sur lesquels vient se poser une voix posée, chantant les louanges de l’amitié et du besoin d’être entouré.
Avec Runaway Emotions, Sons of Silver représente l’âme du rock old school, classic rock ou rock’n’roll, et de tout ce qui a pu en découler ensuite. Sans copier, il s’intègre totalement et cela donne un album original, digne des plus grandes années du genre. Une très belle sortie, pas courante, marquant par sa qualité et son authenticité.

The single “Tell Me This”, released in February 2024, almost a year ago, opens the album. You can hear the old-school rock energy the band wants to convey. The recognized talents who make up this supergroup put all their experience at the service of this project, giving it a dimension of rare quality. Around Peter Argyropoulos (aka Pete RG, here on vocals and rhythm guitar) and his pen are Adam Kury (bass, Candlebox), Kevin Haaland (guitar, Skillet), Marc Slutsky (drums, The Goo Goo Dolls, Peter Murphy…). Keyboard, present on some tracks, is provided by Brina Kabler, also sound engineer on the album.
This old-school rock’n’roll ethos guides us through Runaway Emotions, yet each track is quite different, each adding its own nuance to the palette of emotions depicted. “Just Getting Started” is a little slower and jazzy, giving it a little sensual energy. “Running” takes us back into the spirit of Dire Straits, notably in the phrasing, intonation and coloring of Peter Argypopoulos’ voice. All in all, this album really takes us back to the 60s and late 70s. “Baby Hang On” kicks off with modernized rockabilly influences, before moving on to a classic rock sound that makes you want to drive with the window open on a long, straight road. “Ghost”, while remaining in the same spirit, has a slightly more epic feel at times, thanks to a strong keyboard presence, particularly on the chorus. “Nobody Minds” is a little more aggressive, as much in the vocals as in the riffs of the verses, contrasting with the very melodic and musically lighter choruses. Like “Warning Signs”, which is very explicit, the tracks are more like cries of alarm in the face of the dangers that threaten the world, but with a rock’n’roll backdrop that brings people together. The album closes with “Friends”, a magnificent ballad in which the piano takes center stage, lightly supported by a gentle keyboard, over which a calm voice sings the praises of friendship and the need to be surrounded.
With Runaway Emotions, Sons of Silver represent the soul of old school rock, classic rock or rock’n’roll, and everything that came after. Without copying, it integrates totally, resulting in an original album worthy of the genre’s greatest years. A very fine, unusual release, striking for its quality and authenticity.
