Derrière une montagne en Suisse, ou dans un quartier de Milan, le groupe Monteceneri nous font voyager dans leur univers de singles en singles. Ce 24 janvier, ils sortiront Due, leur nouvel EP via Lady Lovely Label, piochant dans de nombreux genres musicaux avec comme ligne de mire : un post rock instrumental puissant.

Le post rock de Monteceneri est frappant dès la première écoute. Que ce soit par les parties instrumentales prenantes, par le bruit de la nature qui accompagne notre écoute, ou encore par un texte fort. Dans cet EP, la basse est au cœur même de la composition, très mise en avant, notamment sur le single de cet EP, « Call of the Void ». Cette basse, c’est celle de Markus Sotto Corona, qui se délecte des meilleures sonorités stoner, pour donner ce côté légérement fuzzy aux titres, notamment « Paul’s Holy Hands », titre extrêmement lumineux. La guitare de Massimiliano Bellavia n’est pas en reste et nous emmène dans de beaux riffs, légérement répétitif. Le changement d’ambiance se fait avec « Palm Hero » où un clavier fait son entrée, nous rappelant sans mal les compositions de nos français de Lost In Kiev. Ce titre est très stellaire, avant d’amener un texte en italien sur la démocratie et la liberté, qui semble s’effondrer de nos jours, les italiens le savent mieux que nous. Ce morceau portera également sur son dos une vraie explosion musicale. Cet EP se clôture en beauté avec « PSKNSS ».
Cet EP de Monteceneri est très bien construit, et coche parfaitement toutes les cases de ce qu’on attends dans le post rock. De la rêverie et de l’imaginaire qui se construit facilement, des instruments parfaitement en cohésion les uns des autres, et surtout une puissance émotionnelle.

This January 24th, they will be releasing Due, their new EP via Lady Lovely Label, drawing on a wide range of musical genres, with a focus on powerful instrumental post-rock.

Monteceneri‘s post rock is striking from the very first listen. Whether it’s the gripping instrumental parts, the sound of nature that accompanies our listening, or the strong lyrics. In this EP, the bass is at the very heart of the composition, very much to the fore, especially on the EP’s single, “Call of the Void”. The bass is that of Markus Sotto Corona, who revels in the best stoner sounds, giving a slightly fuzzy feel to the tracks, notably “Paul’s Holy Hands”, an extremely luminous track. Massimiliano Bellavia‘s guitar is not to be outdone, taking us on a journey of beautiful, slightly repetitive riffs. The mood changes with “Palm Hero”, where a keyboard makes its entrance, reminding us of the compositions of our French friends Lost In Kiev. This track is very stellar, before bringing in a text in Italian about democracy and freedom, which seem to be collapsing these days, as the Italians know better than we do. This track also carries on its back a real musical explosion. The EP closes in style with “PSKNSS”.
This EP from Monteceneri is very well constructed, and ticks all the boxes of what you’d expect from post rock. Dreamy and imaginative, the instruments are perfectly in tune with each other, and, above all, it’s emotionally powerful.
