C’est une vraie valse d’émotions qui forge la puissance des compositions de Lorem Ipsum. Une guitare folk, un violon, un piano, et une batterie, qui fait son apparition dans le groupe pour un quatuor qui a des choses à extérioriser. Car oui, le screamo est peut-être l’un des genres musicaux où l’on parle le plus ouvertement de ce qu’on a dans le cœur, jusqu’à l’expulser sous un cri, un soupir mais surtout avec une tornade instrumentale. Quand elle est associée au post rock, plus beau vecteur d’émotions, on est sur de la beauté pure.
Lorem Ipsum l’ont bien compris, et c’est avec 3 petits morceaux qu’ils sont de retour, après leur dernier album « Vivre encore » sorti en 2021. Une lettre ouverte sur la parentalité, ou comment protéger son enfant du monde cruel extérieur (et intérieur) ? Cet EP se fait en trois temps : Une introduction où viennent se mêler des sonorités de tous nos voyages. On croirait entendre le début d’un récit plein de tension par l’alliance violon/clavier, jusqu’à un jeu de rythme du piano qui se transforme très vite par un voyage méditerranéen une fois rejoint par la guitare folk. Et pourtant, dès les premiers cris, on découvre un père, blessé après avoir blessé, vivant dans la peur de se voir remplacer, ou du moins de ne pas être dans la tête de son enfant, comme si l’amour qui les unis pouvait disparaitre aussi simplement qu’une dispute. Le deuxième temps se fera en pleine crise avec « Et Le Mal » qui nous emporte grâce à des riffs virevoltants à toute vitesse. A peine 1 min 40, et pourtant, c’est un jeu de tension qui se décide devant nous. Une tension porté par la peur. Et enfin un troisième temps où l’on fait redescendre cette intensité avec « tes jours sans moi », histoire d’un père qui laisse partir difficilement sa fille dans le monde réel et cruel. C’est avec cette phrase « Chaque soir j’y pense, à tes jours sans moi » répété en boucle, que Lorem Ipsum viennent vous arracher les tripes, que vous soyez à la place du chanteur, ou du côté de la jeune adulte quittant sa vie d’enfant et regardant avec l’oeil brillant, son père, désormais seul.
Si vous aviez envie de lâcher une petite larme d’émotion ce 7 février, c’est du côté de lillois de Lorem Ipsum qu’il faudra donc se tourner pour un court EP, mais d’une intensité serrant jusqu’au cœur. Alors quand on y parle lien père-fille, vous pouvez être sûr d’être touché là où ça pique. Un EP immanquable, que l’on s’empresse de ré-écouter encore et encore.

The power of Lorem Ipsum‘s compositions is forged by a veritable waltz of emotions. Folk guitar, violin, piano and drums make their appearance in the band for a quartet with things to get off their chest. Because yes, screamo is perhaps one of the musical genres where you can speak most openly about what’s in your heart, to the point of expelling it with a scream, a sigh, but above all with an instrumental tornado. When combined with post rock, the most beautiful vector of emotions, this is pure beauty.
Lorem Ipsum have understood this, and they’re back with 3 short tracks, after their last album Vivre encore released in 2021. An open letter about parenthood, or how to protect your child from the cruel outside (and inside) world? The EP is divided into three parts: an introduction that blends sounds from all our travels. The violin/keyboard combination sounds like the beginning of a story full of tension, with the piano playing a rhythmic game that quickly turns into a Mediterranean journey once joined by the folk guitar. And yet, from the very first cries, we discover a father, wounded after having wounded, living in fear of being replaced, or at least of not being in his child’s head, as if the love that unites them could disappear as simply as an argument. The second song, “Et Le Mal”, takes us right into the middle of the crisis, with its twirling riffs at full speed. Barely 1 min 40, and yet it’s a game of tension that unfolds before us. Tension driven by fear. And finally a third act, when the intensity comes down again with “tes jours sans moi”, the story of a father who lets his daughter go with difficulty into the real, cruel world. With the line « Chaque soir j’y pense, à tes jours sans moi » that you can translate with “Every night I think about it, about your days without me” repeated over and over, Lorem Ipsum rip your guts out, whether you’re in the singer’s shoes, or on the side of the young adult leaving her childhood behind and looking with shining eyes at her now lonely father.
If you felt like shedding an emotional tear on February 7th, you’ll have to turn to Lille’s Lorem Ipsum for a short EP, but one with a heart-stopping intensity. When it comes to the father-daughter bond, you can be sure of being hit right where it stings. A must-have EP, that we’ll be eager to listen to again and again.
