Habitués de cette salle et constamment en tournée, Los Fastidios fait son traditionnel pèlerinage à la Brat Cave en ce dimanche 16 février. Les italiens sont venus déposer leur ska antifasciste et festif. Comme en 2022, c’est Mal Aux Yeux, groupe de punk nordiste qui ouvre la soirée.

La salle se remplit tranquillement en ce dimanche soir lorsque Mal Aux Yeux démarre son set. Dès les premières notes, on rentre dans la pure tradition punk. Ça tabasse, ça joue fort, ça crie… Les riffs acérés, le rythme effréné et l’énergie vocale démontent tout sur leur passage. C’est pour nous la première date avec le changement de line-up. Grégoire étant parti vers d’autres aventures musicales, c’est Éric (qui officie également dans Billsnatch, tout comme Youri, chant) qui a repris la basse depuis quelques mois. Des petites touches de ska viennent rythmer les compositions. Victor (batterie) nous surprend même avec un petit coup de blast. Les titres sont chantés en français. Malheureusement les paroles ne sont pas toujours très distinctes, et on passe souvent à côté. Toutefois l’énergie passée dans leurs compositions par les musiciens suffit à nous faire comprendre la couleur du morceau, et les émotions qu’il véhicule. Celles-ci sont souvent de la colère ou de la souffrance face à cette société qui nous opprime. L’anti patriarcat est également abordé. Évidemment le poing levé en signe de résistance face à tout ce système est de mise, et la salle y répond avec conviction. La fin du set est explosive, clôturant à merveille cette prestation.
On retrouve avec toujours un immense plaisir les Italiens de Los Fastidios. En tournée quasiment non stop, on est toujours très heureux de retrouver le groupe. Les branchements sont faits et c’est parti pour 2h de ska endiablé! Dès les premières notes, on danse, on chante avec Enrico et Elisa à en perdre la voix. Cette dernière est d’ailleurs présente dès le début du set, ce qui est différent des live précédents qui commencent avec uniquement la voix d’Enrico. Elisa est comme à son habitude solaire, comme les titres de Los Fastidios. Le groupe, profondément anti raciste, antifasciste, antispéciste, délivre ses combats (que l’on partage) dans un ska festif et fédérateur. Des nouveautés sont présentes dans la setlist comme “You’re so Young” qui ouvre le concert. Ce titre est le premier single du prochain album de Los Fastidios, à paraître en avril prochain. Leur reprise de “Clandestino” de Manu Chao retourne comme d’habitude joyeusement la salle. Le groupe, au milieu de toutes ses valeurs humanistes est également profondément féministe. C’est donc tout naturellement qu’Enrico s’efface sur “Beverley” pour faire passer un vrai message, toujours en musique. Elisa invite les femmes à monter sur scène avec elle pour défendre le droit de ne pas se conformer aux attentes des hommes sur fond d’appel à toutes les “Rude Girls” à rester elles-mêmes. Elisa nous remerciera toutes à la fin, alors que c’est clairement à elle que nous pouvons dire merci de nous offrir ce beau moment et ces belles paroles. Les concerts de Los Fastidios ont un effet libérateur. C’est un endroit où on peut être qui on veut, être soi-même, sans jugement. L’ambiance est des plus festive, tout en partageant de vrais combats antifascistes. On est entouré de personnes sensibles à tous ces sujets, qui connaissent la gravité du moment et qui prennent un plaisir infini à se retrouver autour de la musique. Et alors que l’interlude de “Skankin Town” avec tous les remerciements, ressemble à une fin après 1h de show, on sait qu’on en est qu’à la moitié du concert! Le public ne faiblit jamais, tant le groupe nous envoie une énergie folle. Le drapeau LBGTQIA+ flotte fièrement sur scène sur “Take a Stand”, véritable hymne antifasciste. On reprend le refrain en chœur avec une force aussi intense que notre indignation face à ce qui nous entoure. Les danses, les pogos, les sauts sont présents d’un bout à l’autre du live. Des reprises emblématiques pavent la setlist comme “Three Minutes Hero” des incroyables The Selecter. La réelle fin sonnera finalement avec une reprise de Cock Sparrer “We’re Coming Back” après le traditionnel “Antifa Hooligans” version ska qui fait lever les poings, les écharpes et les drapeaux.
Nous avons encore passé une excellente soirée avec les locaux de Mal Aux Yeux qui envoie toujours autant. Los Fastidios comme à son habitude nous a rendu.es fier.es de nos combats, nous a fait danser, nous a rendu heureux, dans un univers dans lequel on se sent nous-même, rassemblés et heureux. Encore merci à eux pour tout! On attend avec hâte l’album.

Regulars at this venue and constantly on tour, Los Fastidios made their traditional pilgrimage to the Brat Cave on Sunday 16 February. The Italians have come to lay down their festive, anti-fascist ska. As in 2022, northern punk band Mal Aux Yeux open the evening.

The venue was slowly filling up on this Sunday evening when Mal Aux Yeux kicked off their set. From the very first notes, you’re in the pure punk tradition. The sharp riffs, frantic rhythm and vocal energy dismantle everything in their path. This is our first show with the new line-up. With Grégoire off on other musical adventures, it’s Éric (who also plays in Billsnatch, as does Youri on vocals) who has taken over the bass a few months ago. Little touches of ska punctuate the compositions. Victor (drums) even surprises us with a little blast. The songs are sung in French. Unfortunately, the lyrics are not always very distinct, and we often miss them. However, the energy the musicians put into their compositions is enough to make us understand the colour of the track and the emotions it conveys. These are often anger or suffering in the face of a society that oppresses us. Anti-patriarchy is also addressed. Naturally, the fist raised in resistance to the whole system is the order of the day, and the crowd responds with conviction. The set came to an explosive end, bringing the performance to a fitting close.
It’s always a great pleasure to catch up with the Italians from Los Fastidios. On tour virtually non-stop, we’re always delighted to catch up with the band. The connections are made and we’re off for 2 hours of frenzied ska! From the very first notes, we’re dancing and singing along with Enrico and Elisa to the point of losing our voices. In fact, Elisa‘s voice is present right from the start of the set, which is different from previous live shows that start with just Enrico‘s voice. Elisa is her usual sunny self, as are the songs from Los Fastidios. The band, profoundly anti-racist, anti-fascist and anti-speciesist, deliver their message in a festive, unifying ska. The setlist includes a number of new tracks, such as ‘You’re so Young’, which opens the concert. This track is the first single from Los Fastidios’ forthcoming album, due out in April. As usual, their cover of Manu Chao‘s ‘Clandestino’ brought the house down. In the midst of all its humanist values, the group is also deeply feminist. So it’s only natural that Enrico takes a back seat on ‘Beverley’ to get a real message across, again with music. Elisa invites women to join her on stage to defend the right not to conform to men’s expectations, and calls on all Rude Girls to be themselves. Elisa will thank us all at the end, so it’s clearly to her that we can say thank you for giving us this beautiful moment and these beautiful words. Los Fastidios concerts have a liberating effect. It’s a place where you can be who you want to be, be yourself, without judgement. It’s a very festive atmosphere, while sharing real anti-fascist struggles. You’re surrounded by people who are sensitive to all these issues, who know the seriousness of the moment and who take infinite pleasure in coming together around the music. And while the interlude of ‘Skankin Town’, with all its thank-yous, felt like the end of a 1-hour show, you knew you were only halfway through! The crowd never falters, as the band’s energy goes through the roof. The LBGTQIA+ flag flies proudly on stage during ‘Take a Stand’, a veritable anti-fascist anthem. We take up the chorus with a force as intense as our indignation at what surrounds us. Dancing, pogoing and jumping are present throughout the live show. Emblematic covers such as ‘Three Minutes Hero’ by the incredible The Selecter fill the setlist. The real end finally came with a cover of Cock Sparrer‘s ‘We’re Coming Back’ after the traditional ska version of ‘Antifa Hooligans’, which raised fists, scarves and flags.
We had another excellent evening with local band Mal Aux Yeux, who are still going strong. Los Fastidios, as usual, made us proud of our struggles, got us dancing and made us happy, in a universe where we felt like ourselves, united and happy. Thanks again to them for everything! We can’t wait for the album.
