Même si la saison printanière semble se profiler à l’horizon, les Allemands de Cages ont décidé de nous transporter dans une atmosphère automnale avec leur nouvel album, Better Mistakes, ce 21 février. L’album produit par Through Love Records, est un projet musical qui s’inscrit dans le post/hardcore émotif, fortement influencé par le screamo des années 90.

Dès l’introduction, il est évident que l’influence du screamo des années 90 est manifeste dans le morceau d’ouverture, intitulé « Masters of the Universe ». Cette similitude est d’autant plus intrigante que le titre rappelle la production de nos compatriotes d’Another Five Minutes. Cette fusion d’accords, à la fois mélodique et nostalgique, se marie parfaitement avec le contenu engagé de la chanson, qui exprime une critique des dirigeants et de l’attitude de paternalisation que nous avons face à la nature et à la Terre. Il est à noter que le clip a été intégralement réalisé par le chanteur Micha, exprimant une volonté de fournir un art DIY et brut à leur audience.
Tout au long de l’album, nous allons explorer des thèmes tels que la nature humaine, les conflits, la remise en question, tout en insufflant une note d’optimisme. Malgré une orientation artistique introspective, le groupe parvient à insuffler une dynamique positive. Remarquable sur cet album « My Wristwatch Tells Me When To Sleep » se distingue par son impact significatif. Le chanteur y livre une critique acerbe de la société, abordant la relation complexe entre l’obsession de l’optimisation de soi et le poids de la honte. C’est un véritable appel à l’action, une invitation à se joindre à lui pour “conquering death by numbers”.
Sur leur deuxième album Better Mistakes, le groupe DIY-hardcore de Ludwigsburg, crée une intensité réfléchie mais non polie qui se manifeste dans les six chansons. Des riffs accrocheurs couplés à des voix passionnées laissent entrevoir une lueur d’espoir tout au long de l’album qui sera fait du bien dans chaque période compliquée de la vie.

Although spring seems to be on the horizon, Germany’s Cages have decided to transport us into an autumnal atmosphere with their new album, Better Mistakes, out on February 21st. The album, produced by Through Love Records, is an emotive post-hardcore project heavily influenced by 90s screamo.

Right from the introduction, it’s clear that the influence of 90s screamo is evident in the opening track, entitled ‘Masters of the Universe’. This similarity is all the more intriguing given that the title is reminiscent of the production of our compatriots Another Five Minutes. This melodic and nostalgic fusion of chords is a perfect match for the song’s committed content, which expresses a critique of the rulers and the paternalising attitude we have towards nature and the Earth. It should be noted that the video was entirely directed by the singer Micha, expressing a desire to provide their audience with raw DIY art.
Throughout the album, we explore themes such as human nature, conflict and questioning, while at the same time injecting a note of optimism. Despite their introspective artistic orientation, the band manage to instil a positive dynamic. My Wristwatch Tells Me When To Sleep’ is a standout track on this album, with a significant impact. The singer delivers a scathing critique of society, addressing the complex relationship between the obsession with self-improvement and the weight of shame. It’s a real call to action, an invitation to join him in ‘conquering death by numbers’.
On their second album, Better Mistakes, the DIY-hardcore band from Ludwigsburg create a thoughtful but unpolished intensity that shines through in all six songs.
