Le groupe anglo-polonais Telepathy nous propose en cette fin mars de découvrir son quatrième album. Intitulé Transmissions et disponible dès le 28 mars via Pelagic Records, il se compose de sept nouveaux titres encrant toujours plus le groupe dans un son post métal, cinématographique à souhait. C’est donc avec grande impatience qu’on se plonge dans cette nouvelle sortie du quatuor.

Pour cette chronique on ne vous parlera pas de chaque titre indépendamment mais bien de ce qu’on a ressenti en écoutant l’album du combo. Dès le premier morceau on se retrouve immergé dans un son digne des plus grands groupes du genre qui nous enveloppe en musique pour ne plus nous lâcher pendant près d’une heure. Les extraits et autres interludes issus d’oeuvres minutieusement choisies par le groupe pour illustrer leur propos musical renforcent l’immersion et nous apportent quelques clefs de lecture, mais si l’aspect instrumental de la musique permet à chacun de se faire sa propre histoire sur ces titres. Le groupe composé des trois frères Krystian (basse), Albert (Batterie) et Piotr Turek (guitare) et du guitariste anglais Richard Powley arrive avec ces sept morceaux à nous captiver avec un son toujours plus puissant et inventif. Les évolutions sonores sont légions et chacune des composition nous offre son propre univers, évidemment intimement connecté à ceux des autres titres. Des petites influences sludge viennent se glisser ça et là mais ce sont les envolées post métal qui font de ce disque un immanquable de cette fin de premier trimestre. De pistes comme « Oath » qui prennent le temps de s’installer à d’autres plus courtes et directes comme « Knife Edge Effect », on retrouve toujours cette excellence de composition servie par les quatre musiciens. On aimerait que ce voyage ne se termine pas, mais « Home » vient nous annoncer un retour sur terre. Mais la fin n’arrivera pas sans un dernier subtile mélange habile de napes de guitares, et d’une section rythmique magistrale qui nous emporte une fois de plus. Un vrai bonheur auditif de bout en bout!

Avec Transmissions, Telepathy nous livrent un album magistral qui se classe aisément dans ce qu’on a écouté de meilleur cette année. L’aventure sonore proposée est inoubliable et on garde l’envie constante de s’y replonger au plus vite. On espère fort pouvoir voir le groupe en live au plus vite, car ces morceaux annoncent de belles heures de concerts qu’on adorerait pouvoir vivre.

As March draws to a close, Anglo-Polish band Telepathy are releasing their fourth album. Entitled Transmissions and available from March 28th via Pelagic Records, it features seven new tracks that further entrench the band’s cinematic post-metal sound. So it’s with great anticipation that we immerse ourselves in this new release from the quartet.

For the purposes of this review, we’re not going to talk about each track independently, but rather about how we felt listening to the combo’s album. From the very first track, you’re immersed in a sound worthy of the greatest bands in the genre, enveloping you in music that doesn’t let go for almost an hour. The excerpts and interludes from works carefully chosen by the band to illustrate their musical intent reinforce the immersion and provide us with a few keys to understanding, but if the instrumental aspect of the music allows everyone to make up their own story about these tracks. The band, made up of the three brothers Krystian (bass), Albert (drums) and Piotr Turek (guitar) and English guitarist Richard Powley, manage to captivate us with these seven tracks, with an increasingly powerful and inventive sound. There’s no shortage of sonic developments, and each composition offers its own universe, obviously intimately linked to those of the other tracks. Sludge influences creep in here and there, but it’s the post-metal flights of fancy that make this record a must-have for the end of the first quarter. From tracks like ‘Oath’, which take the time to settle in, to shorter, more direct ones like ‘Knife Edge Effect’, the four musicians always deliver excellent songwriting. We’d like this journey not to end, but ‘Home’ announces a return to earth. But the end doesn’t come without a final subtle blend of guitar noises and a masterful rhythm section that sweeps us off our feet once more. A true aural delight from start to finish!

With Transmissions, Telepathy deliver a masterful album that easily ranks among the best we’ve listened to this year. It’s an unforgettable sonic adventure, and one that leaves you wanting more as soon as possible. We really hope to be able to see the band live as soon as possible, because these tracks herald some great hours of concerts that we’d love to be able to experience.
