Depuis dix ans Messa nous livrent une musique de grande qualité qui colle des frissons à chaque écoute. Pour cette nouvelle sortie annoncée pour le 11 avril, la formation italienne se déplace dans une ambiance plus teintée par les années 80. The Spin est donc une nouvelle aventure musicale pour le groupe, une dont on a évidement hâte de vous parler et qui promet de belles nouveautés sonores. D’entrée on sent que le groupe veut nous surprendre avec un son effectivement qu’on croirait sorti des albums de l’époque, et pour cause les italiens sont allés chercher le plus d’instruments et de matériel vintage pour enregistrer ce nouvel album. La voix de Sara est plus captivante que jamais et on sent toute sa versatilité déjà présente dès les deux premiers titres « Void Meridian » et « At Races ». Les fans de la première heure ont de quoi être déroutés mais quel plaisir d’entendre une formation à ce point au sommet de son art. Le son est excellent et « Fire On The Roof » vient nous rappeler à quel point Marco et Alberto sont des guitaristes confirmés et talentueux. Marco officie d’ailleurs également à la basse avec tout autant de brio. En plus de leurs instruments habituels, le groupe a ajouté des claviers qui collent parfaitement à l’univers de ce nouveau disque. Côté batterie, on retrouve Rocco en très grande forme également. Ce dernier a décidé sur cet album de mettre de la gated reverb sur sa batterie pour un son toujours plus étonnant. « The Dress » est le morceau de l’album le plus long, mais aussi le plus captivant tant il tente des choses côté sonore avec toujours autant de réussite. C’est simple décrocher d’un titre de cet acabit est impossible, en particulier avec ce son goth rock enthousiasmant! L’album nous émerveille un peu plus avec les deux derniers titre dont l’excellent « Thicker Blood » qui montre une dernière fois tout le travail de composition, de jeu et d’écriture abattu par les italiens sur ce nouvel opus avec en point d’orgue la magnifique voix de Sara. Les frissons ont été présents tout au long de l’écoute et on sent que cette envie de naviguer dans de nouvelles eaux sonores a porté ses fruits. .
Aussi surprenant qu’inventif The Spin est une pièce de choix dans la discographie déjà excellente de Messa. On ne peut que vous conseiller de vous plonger dans ce nouveau disque des italiens au plus vite tant il regorge de morceaux inoubliables! Un des meilleurs albums qu’on a pu écouter cette année, et qui vient se loger bien haut dans le top de l’année! Maintenant on attends bien sagement le retour sur les routes du groupe!

For this new release, due out on April 11th, the Italian outfit are moving into a more 80s-tinged atmosphere. The Spin is a new musical adventure for the band, one that we can’t wait to tell you about, and one that promises some great new sounds. The album is available via Metal Blade Records.
From the outset, you can tell that the band want to surprise you with a sound that sounds like something out of a vintage album, and for good reason, the Italians went in search of as many vintage instruments and equipment as possible to record this new album. Sara‘s voice is more captivating than ever, and her versatility is already evident on the first two tracks, “Void Meridian” and “At Races”. Fans of the band’s early days will be baffled, but what a pleasure it is to hear a band at the height of their powers. The sound is excellent and “Fire On The Roof” reminds us just how talented and experienced guitarists Marco and Alberto are. Marco also plays bass with equal brilliance. As well as their usual instruments, the band have added keyboards that fit in perfectly with the world of this new album. On the drums, Rocco is also in fine form. On this album, he has decided to add gated reverb to his drums for an even more astonishing sound. ‘The Dress’ is the longest track on the album, but it’s also the most captivating, because it tries so many different things with sound, and always succeeds. It’s impossible to take your ears off a track of this calibre, evenmore with this thrilling goth rock sound! The album’s final two tracks, including the excellent “Thicker Blood”, give us a final glimpse of all the hard work the Italians have put into composing, playing and writing this new opus, culminating in Sara‘s magnificent voice. The thrills were there all the way through, and it’s clear that their desire to explore new sonic waters has paid off.
As surprising as it is inventive, The Spin is a choice addition to Messa‘s already excellent discography. We can only advise you to get to grips with this new album from the Italians as soon as possible, as it’s packed with unforgettable tracks! It’s one of the best albums we’ve listened to this year, and it’s right up there in the top ten! Now we’re waiting with bated breath for the band’s return to the road!
