Le High Voltage, bar rock lillois, organise ce soir son tout premier concert avec une affiche aux petits oignons concoctée par Roaring Tubes. Au programme de cette soirée au milieu des murs de briques de la salle: de la disto, du fuzz et du rock bien évidemment avec Occult Hand Order, Jupeaters et Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees qui nous présenteront chacun leur univers. Après une découverte du bar et de son atmosphère accueillante il est temps pour nous de descendre réveiller nos tympans en musique!

C’est dans une salle bien remplie que Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees montent sur scène. Etant nombreux, ils se retrouvent un peu serrés sur ce petit espace mais cela n’entachera en rien leur prestation. On découvre le groupe ce soir et on sera vite conquis par leur rock entrainant. Le mélange de la voix soul de la chanteuse avec les rythmes bien rock des morceaux fait mouche. Les musiciens semblent ravis par l’accueil et sont tout sourire tout au long du set. On se laisse porter par des morceaux enthousiasmants et souvent assez longs pour nous faire profiter des talents de chaque personne présente sur scène ce soir. Leur son se teinte de blues à plusieurs reprises pour notre plus grand plaisir et nous fait rentrer dans cette soirée de la plus belle des manières. Les riffs sont percutants et les parties de claviers donnent au tout une teinte old school encore plus forte! On sent que le groupe est bien en place, et pourtant il ne se sont formé que l’an dernier du côté de Roubaix! Comme quoi l’alchimie n’attends pas et c’est avec une évidence folle dans le son que le groupe nous déroule son set. Le public applaudit largement le groupe conquis par une performance enthousiasmante. Après un dernier titre qui terminera de nous en mettre plein la vue, Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees quittent la scène en remerciant tout le monde pour l’accueil. On ne manquera pas de suivre de près ce groupe autant en live que sur leurs futures sorties. Foncez les voir dès que possible on vous promet un excellent moment!
Cela faisait un moment que nous n’avions pas vu Jupeaters sur scène et les retrouver est un véritable plaisir. Dès l’intro du set on sent que le trio de stoner psyché a encore parfait sa recette de morceaux imparables dopés au fuzz. Les amateurs du groupe sont présents et n’hésitent pas à donner toute leur énergie à un trio qui déjà n’en manque pas. Les anciens morceaux se mêlent à des compositions que nous n’avions pas encore entendu et qui mettent toujours en valeur le travail abattu par le trio ces derniers mois. Le duo basse/batterie fait toujours des merveille avec des lignes de basses percutantes et une batterie puissante qui nous incite vivement à remuer la tête. Côté guitare c’est une avalanche de riffs puissants qui s’abat sur nous pour notre plus grand plaisir. Chaque morceau est un pur bonheur pour les oreilles et on se délecte de chaque note jouée par les trois musiciens. On ne voit pas le temps passer en leur compagnie et lorsque vient l’heure du dernier titre on se dit qu’on en aurait bien repris un peu plus tant les compositions sont captivantes. On ne manquera pas de retrouver le groupe au plus vite lors de ses prochains passages dans le coin et on espère très vite de nouvelles sorties pour pouvoir vous en parler ici même.
Il est déjà tard quand Occult Hand Order débarquent sur scène mais le public est toujours présent pour profiter d’une dernière dose de fuzz pour ce soir, et pas des moindres. En effet pour leur premier titre les trois musiciens nous proposent une composition où Nicolas Fabre, le guitariste jouera sans guitare et nous proposera des sons fuzzy uniquement à l’aide d’une batterie de pédales d’effet posées sur une table! Effet garanti pour un début de set! Suivront des morceaux captivants où Hugo Zepah (basse & chant), Tony Duvillard et Nicolas nous montreront toute l’étendue de leur talent, entre riffs surpuissants, lignes de basse venant faire vibrer nos cages thoraciques et rythmiques doom à souhait. On avait adoré le groupe lors d’un de leurs concerts parisiens il y a déjà quelques années et ce concert lillois nous confirme que la formation lyonnaise en a sous le pied! Leur album Silence By The Raging Sea nous avait captivé et réentendre certains de ces morceaux en live est un pur bonheur. On laisse les riffs nous emporter un peu plus mais l’heure tardive et la fatigue accumulée de la semaine commence à se faire sentir nous faisant manquer la fin du set à notre plus grand regret. On sait de source sûr que la cave à vibré encore de longues minutes au son toujours aussi enthousiasmant d’Occult Hand Order et on imagine aisément le groupe revenir dans le coin assez vite pour nous présenter de nouveaux titres. Une fin de soirée en apothéose avec un groupe au sommet de son art!
Cette première soirée de musique live au High Voltage aura tenue toutes ses promesses. Les trois groupes ont livré des prestations marquantes qui ont ravis le public venu en nombre pour découvrir le lieu. Voilà un nouveau lieu parfait pour de belles soirées musicales en tout genres! On hésitera pas une seconde à vous partager la programmation dans nos agendas du mois et on vous invite à aller découvrir ce nouveau bar pour que ce nouveau lieu de culture puisse vivre le plus longtemps possible!

High Voltage, a rock bar based in Lille, is hosting its very first concert this evening, with a line-up carefully selected by Roaring Tubes. On the bill for this evening, between the brick walls of the venue, distortion, fuzz and rock of course, with Occult Hand Order, Jupeaters and Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees each presenting their own universe. After discovering the bar and its warm ambience, it’s time for us to head downstairs and wake up our eardrums to the music!

Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees took to the stage to a packed house. As there were so many of them, they found themselves squeezed into this small space, but that didn’t in any way detract from their performance. We’re discovering the band tonight and we’re quickly won over by their catchy rock. The mix of the singer’s soulful vocals with the rocking rhythms of the songs really hits the spot. The musicians seem delighted by the reception and are all smiles throughout the set. The songs are exciting and often long enough to let you enjoy the talents of everyone on stage this evening. Their sound is tinged with blues on several occasions, much to our delight, and gets us into the evening in the best possible way. The riffs are hard-hitting and the keyboard parts give the whole thing an even stronger old-school feel! You can feel that the band is well established, and yet they only formed last year in Roubaix! It’s clear that chemistry doesn’t wait, and the band’s sound is as obvious as ever as they roll out their set. The audience gave the band a rousing round of applause. After a final track that left the crowd in raptures, Wine Butterfly And Dead Dandees left the stage, thanking everyone for their warm welcome. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this band, both live and on future releases. Go and see them as soon as you can, we promise you’ll have a great time!
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jupeaters live on stage, and it’s a real pleasure to see them again. Right from the start of the set, you can tell that the stoner psychedelic trio have perfected their recipe of unstoppable, fuzz-fuelled tracks. The band’s fans were there in force, and they didn’t hesitate to give all their energy to a trio that already had plenty of it. Old tracks are mixed with new compositions that we haven’t heard before, and which still show off the work the trio have put in over the last few months. The bass/drums duo are still working wonders, with punchy bass lines and powerful drums that encourage us to shake our heads. As for the guitar, it’s an avalanche of powerful riffs that sweeps over us, much to our delight. Each track is a pure joy for the ears, and we revel in every note played by the three musicians. You can’t see the time go by in their company, and when it’s time for the last track, you think you could have done with a few more, so captivating are the compositions. We’ll be sure to catch up with the band as soon as possible on their next visits to the area, and we’re looking forward to new releases so we can tell you all about them right here.
It’s already late by the time Occult Hand Order take to the stage, but the audience is still there to enjoy one last dose of fuzz for the evening, and not the least. For their first track, the three musicians offer us a composition in which Nicolas Fabre, the guitarist, plays without a guitar and offers us fuzzy sounds using only a battery of effect pedals placed on a table! Guaranteed to get your set off to a great start! This will be followed by a series of captivating tracks in which Hugo Zepah (bass & vocals), Tony Duvillard and Nicolas will show us the full extent of their talent, with overpowering riffs, bass lines that make our ribcages vibrate and doom rhythms to match. We loved the band at one of their Paris gigs a few years back, and this gig in Lille confirms that the Lyon-based outfit have got it under their belt! We were captivated by their album Silence By The Raging Sea, and to hear some of these tracks live again is pure bliss. We let the riffs carry us away a little more, but the late hour and the accumulated fatigue of the week began to make itself felt, making us miss the end of the set, much to our regret. We know for a fact that the cellar has been vibrating for many more minutes to the ever-enthusiastic sound of Occult Hand Order, and we can easily imagine the band coming back to the area soon enough to present us with some new tracks. A fitting end to the evening with a band at the top of their game!
This first evening of live music at High Voltage lived up to all its promises. The three bands put in some outstanding performances that delighted the large crowd who turned out to discover the venue. It’s the perfect new venue for a great evening of music of all kinds! We won’t hesitate for a second to share the programme with you in next month’s diaries, and we invite you to go and discover this new bar, so that this new cultural venue can live on for as long as possible!
