Deux soirées au Stade Pierre Mauroy, récemment renommé Decathlon Arena, et quasiment 100 000 spectateurs sur ces deux jours, le boss Bruce Springsteen a fait vibrer les Lillois, et les nombreux touristes de passage dans la métropole entre samedi et mardi. Accompagné de son incontournable E-Street Band, c’est plus de 2h30 de concerts qui nous ont été présenté. On y était pour ce deuxième soir, on vous raconte !

Après un premier concert samedi, ayant rassemblé 60 000 personnes, et quasiment autant de problèmes de transport qui ont fait les lignes de tous les médias du week-end, Bruce Springsteen était de retour au stade Pierre Mauroy ce mardi 27 mai, dans une configuration légèrement différente, puisqu’aucun spectateur n’était installé derrière la scène. C’est donc devant 35 000 personnes que le Boss a fait son show ! Ayant assisté aux deux prestations, il est clair que le show n’avait rien à voir ! D’entrée de jeu, Bruce Springsteen s’élance sur la scène avec son fameux « Bonsoir Lille », avec une ardeur étonnante. Ce soir, l’artiste est en forme Olympique et sera beaucoup plus mobile que samedi. Côté setlist, les fans ont eu la chance d’avoir une belle présentation de sa discographie avec des titres de 11 de ses 20 albums, de quoi ravir tout le monde, même si le fameux « Streets of Philadelphia » n’y était pas. Peu importe, le public connait tous les autres titres par cœur ! A de nombreuses reprises, il se baladera au plus près des fans, notamment sur « Rainmaker », allant même jusque devant les gradins, chose qu’il n’a pas faite deux jours auparavant. L’artiste qui chante son beau pays, les Etats Unis, depuis 50 ans donnera la voix à un peuple complétement perdu face à la politique du pays. Et pour que le message soit bien compris par tous, l’intégralité des discours seront traduits en français sur les écrans géants, mais également certaines chansons, aux paroles très évocatrice comme « My City of Ruins » ou « Darkness on the Edge of Town ». Des semblants de meeting politique diront certains, mais un vrai message important contre Trump, contre l’autoritarisme, et contre la montée du facisme. Le E-street Band seront à 18 sur scène ce soir, pour un ensemble musical impressionnant, comprenant violon, trombone, trompette, accordéon et même glockenspiel ! Les musiciens apportent une énergie folle sur la scène, et Bruce n’hésitera pas à leur laisser toute la lumière, lorsqu’il se place dos au public, les bras vers ses compagnons, tel un chef d’orchestre certes, mais surtout pour admirer comme nous, tout le talent de la formation. L’ambiance dans le stade est assez magistrale, notamment sur la reprise de « Because The Night » de Patti Smith (qu’il a co-écrit), ou lors du long rappel, fait dans un stade totalement éclairé, où « Born In The USA » retentira jusqu’en dehors du stade. Un concert qui se clôture avec surprise sur « Glory Days, que l’on n’attendait pas sur la setlist, et une reprise de Bob Dylan, »Chimes of Freedom ».
Après un premier stade en demi-teinte, ce deuxième soir a mis en lumière Bruce Springsteen et tout le E-Street Band sous leur plus beau jour. Même si le stade était moins rempli, nous avons passé une soirée merveilleuse, devant l’une des plus grandes stars de notre génération. Enfin que dis-je ? De plusieurs générations, puisque l’on a pas reussi à tenir le compteur du nombre d’enfants dans la salle, qui dansaient. Un artiste multi générationnel, au talent aussi immense que sa générosité. Bravo le boss.

Two evenings at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, recently renamed Decathlon Arena, and almost 100,000 spectators over the two days, boss Bruce Springsteen thrilled the people of Lille and the many tourists visiting the city between Saturday and Tuesday. Accompanied by his unmissable E-Street Band, over 2 hours and a half of concerts were presented. We were there for the second night, and we’ll tell you all about it!

After his first concert on Saturday, which drew a crowd of 60,000, and almost as many transport problems that made the weekend headlines, Bruce Springsteen was back at the Stade Pierre Mauroy on May 27th, in a slightly different configuration, with no spectators behind the stage. So it was in front of 35,000 people that the Boss put on his show! Having attended both performances, it’s clear that the show was nothing like it! Right from the start, Bruce Springsteen took to the stage with his famous “Bonsoir Lille”, with astonishing ardor. Tonight, the artist is in Olympic form and will be much more mobile than on Saturday. As for the setlist, fans were treated to a fine presentation of his discography, with tracks from 11 of his 20 albums, enough to delight everyone, even if the famous “Streets of Philadelphia” wasn’t included. Never mind, the audience knows all the other tracks by heart! On a number of occasions, he strolled close to the fans, notably on “Rainmaker”, even going right up to the front of the stands, something he hadn’t done two days earlier. The artist who has been singing the praises of his beautiful country, the United States, for 50 years will be giving a voice to a people who are completely at a loss when it comes to the country’s politics. And to make sure the message is understood by all, all the speeches will be translated into French on the giant screens, as will some of the songs, with their evocative lyrics such as “My City of Ruins” and “Darkness on the Edge of Town”. It may seem like a political rally to some, but it’s an important message against Trump, authoritarianism and the rise of facism. The E-street Band will be 18 on stage tonight, for an impressive musical ensemble, including violin, trombone, trumpet, accordion and even glockenspiel! The musicians bring a crazy energy to the stage, and Bruce doesn’t hesitate to let them have all the light, when he stands with his back to the audience, arms towards his companions, like a conductor of course, but above all to admire, as we do, all the talent of the band. The atmosphere in the stadium is quite masterful, especially on the cover of Patti Smith‘s “Because The Night” (which he co-wrote), or during the long encore, performed in a fully lit stadium, where “Born In The USA” resounds all the way outside the stadium. The concert ended with a surprise performance of “Glory Days”, not expected on the setlist, and a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Chimes of Freedom”.
After a lacklustre first stadium, this second evening brought Bruce Springsteen and the whole E-Street Band to the fore. Even if the stadium wasn’t quite as full, we had a wonderful evening, in front of one of the biggest stars of our generation. Or should I say? Of several generations, since we couldn’t keep track of the number of children dancing in the hall. A multi-generational artist whose talent is as immense as his generosity. Well done, boss.
