A peine cinq mois depuis la sortie de son dernier EP Adrenaline Artificielle, Jimmy Magardeau revient avec un tout nouvel EP, Cyrano, sur sa très récente rupture amoureuse. Un EP inattendu, écrit dans l’urgence pour soigner la plaie de son coeur ouvert, et clore leur histoire avec une belle déclaration.

Depuis le début de leur histoire, Jimmy Magardeau n’a cessé de puiser dans son ex-compagne une inspiration non dissimulé, que ce soit en tant que sujet principal de certains de ses morceaux ou en introduisant sa voix comme sample. Alors quand cette relation finie soudainement, c’est évidemment par la musique que Jimmy va s’exprimer. Ecrit en à peine quelques jours, Jimmy propose en 4 morceaux une lettre d’amour à son ex. Alors pas question de se placer en tant que victime qui supplie son âme sœur de revenir, mais plutôt une ode. Une ode à leur histoire, à la femme incroyable qu’elle est, en décortiquant les petites choses qu’il aurait pu faire, sans jamais rentrer dans la colère. Comme quoi, la peur décrit dans « Dernier Texto » a peut-être aider à se préparer et encaisser cette épreuve avec force et maturité.
Pour cet EP, Jimmy a ressorti ses instruments fétiches : son piano et son saxophone, qu’on retrouve dès le premier morceau, « Cyrano », titre éponyme, clin d’oeil à la pièce de Rostand, bien évidemment. Une certaine douceur ressort de ce morceau, qui nous indique que nous sommes déjà dans la phase d’acceptation par son auteur. Jimmy nous surprends avec « 10 », qui s’éloigne légèrement des sonorités qui lui sont propres, même si les connaisseurs reconnaitrons le riff de guitare d’Axel Spiky. Le vendéen joue avec sa voix, dans son intonation et son débit, pour apporter une énergie folle au titre. « Kocham Ciȩ », qui se traduit par « je t’aime » en polonais, reprends la force des titres instrumentaux de Jimmy, pour y ajouter un texte sur la beauté de l’âme et du coeur.
La vie ne nous laisse pas souvent l’occasion de dire au revoir aux gens qu’on aime convenablement. Ces quatre morceaux semble être l’une des plus belles manières de le faire, comme une lettre de remerciement. Jimmy nous touche droit au coeur avec cet EP, et prouve une fois de plus que les épreuves de la vie sont sa plus belle source d’inspiration.

Barely five months since the release of his last EP Adrenaline Artificielle, Jimmy Magardeau is back with a brand new EP, Cyrano, about his very recent break-up with his lover. It’s an unexpected EP, written in a hurry to heal the wound of his open heart, and close their story with a beautiful declaration.

Since the beginning of their relationship, Jimmy Magardeau has never ceased to draw inspiration from his ex-girlfriend, whether as the main subject of some of his tracks or by introducing her voice as a sample. So when the relationship suddenly came to an end, it was obviously through music that Jimmy was going to express himself. Written in just a few days, Jimmy offers a love letter to his ex in 4 tracks. So there’s no question of Jimmy being the victim begging his soul mate to come back, but rather an ode. An ode to their history, to the incredible woman that she is, deconstructing the little things he could have done, without ever getting angry. As it turns out, the fear described in ‘Dernier Texto’ (Last Text Message) may have helped him prepare for the ordeal and deal with it with strength and maturity.
For this EP, Jimmy has brought out his favourite instruments: his piano and his saxophone, which we find right from the first track, ‘Cyrano’, the eponymous title, a nod to Rostand’s play, of course. A certain gentleness emerges from this track, which tells us that we are already in the phase of acceptance by its author. Jimmy surprises us with ‘10’, which departs slightly from his signature sounds, although connoisseurs will recognise Axel Spiky’s guitar riff. The man from Vendée plays with his voice, in its intonation and delivery, to bring a crazy energy to the track. ‘Kocham Ciȩ’, which translates as “I love you” in Polish, takes the strength of Jimmy’s instrumental tracks and adds a lyric about the beauty of the soul and the heart.
Life doesn’t often give us the chance to say goodbye to the people we love properly. These four tracks seem to be one of the most beautiful ways of doing so, like a letter of thanks. Jimmy touches our hearts with this EP, and proves once again that life’s trials and tribulations are his greatest source of inspiration.
