A peine huit mois depuis la sortie de leur précedent opus Your Medal’s In The Post, les anglais de Getdown Services nous gâtent ce 6 juin avec un tout nouvel EP, Primordial Slot Machine, sorti via Breakfast Records, qui sent bon l’été, l’acceptation et surtout le protodisco.

Les anglais de Getdown Services réussissent à allier musique, humour, thème sérieux, et bonne vibe avec brio depuis quelques années, forgeant petit à petit leur nom dans la scène incontournable outre manche, leur permettant de se retrouver sur de nombreux festivals. Chez Sounding Shivers, le duo est un réel coup de cœur, et c’est avec joie qu’on les retrouve aujourd’hui avec six nouveaux morceaux. Cet EP nous enveloppe d’une chaleur réconfortante, comme pour nous placer au cœur d’un cocon, où les soucis de la vie semble bien loin. Avec le premier titre « Provide Me Your Name », on tombe dans l’humour parfait des anglais, où les paroles ne sont ni plus ni moins qu’un prank téléphonique, complètement absurde. On reconnait bien les anglais ici, dans ce morceau assez calme musicalement, guidé par une basse entêtante. Je vous parlais de cocon, c’est exactement ce que nous promets le titre « Chrysalis » au titre très évocateur, très pop. On est loin de perdre le côté protodisco du groupe, notamment avec « James Bay’s Hat », qui est très dansant. Une des forces du groupe, et vous le confirmerez sans hésitation après les avoir vu en live, c’est cette facilité qu’ils ont de faire des refrains qui rentrent en tête, et qui nous font danser. C’est sur le sobre « Eat Quiche, Sleep, Repeat » que l’on se mets à se déhancher, juste avant de rentrer dans un son proche de celui de Puppetmastaz avec « God Bless ». Les morceaux sont lumineux et nous permettent de lacher prise.
Getdown Services continuent à nous régaler d’EP en EP, s’imposant chez nous comme un reméde à la déprime, comme une invitation à danser, et ne pas se soucier de tous les problèmes qui nous entourent à l’extérieur, mais également qui nous rongent à l’intérieur.
Ne manquez pas Getdown Services lors de leur passage au Grand Mix de Tourcoing le 11 décembre prochain, ainsi qu’au Trabendo (Paris) le 9 décembre, et au Botanique de Bruxelles le 12 décembre.

Barely eight months since the release of their previous opus Your Medal’s In The Post, the English band Getdown Services spoil us this June 6th with a brand new EP, Primordial Slot Machine, released via Breakfast Records, which smells of summer, acceptance and, above all, protodisco.
Over the past few years, the English duo Getdown Services have succeeded in combining music, humor, serious themes and a good vibe with brio, gradually forging their name in the essential scene across the Channel, enabling them to appear at numerous festivals. At Sounding Shivers, the duo is a real favorite, and we’re delighted to welcome them back with six new tracks. This EP envelops us in a comforting warmth, as if to place us at the heart of a cocoon, where life’s worries seem far away. The first track, “Provide Me Your Name”, is a perfect example of English humor, where the lyrics are nothing more or less than a completely absurd telephone prank. The English are very much in evidence here, in this musically calm track, guided by a heady bass. I mentioned cocooning, and that’s exactly what the evocatively titled “Chrysalis” promises. We’re far from losing the protodisco side of the band, especially with “James Bay’s Hat”, which is very danceable. One of the band’s strengths – and you’ll confirm this without hesitation once you’ve seen them live – is their ability to come up with choruses that get stuck in your head and make you dance. It’s on the sobering “Eat Quiche, Sleep, Repeat” that we start to sway, just before entering a sound close to that of Puppetmastaz with “God Bless”. The tracks are luminous and allow us to let go.
Getdown Services continue to delight us with EP after EP, establishing themselves as a remedy for the blues, an invitation to dance, and not to worry about all the problems that surround us on the outside, but also gnaw at us on the inside.
