Le BetiZfest est, depuis plus de 20 ans maintenant, comme le rendez-vous du métal et du rock dans le Cambrésis. Pour l’édition 2025, c’est sur trois jours qu’ont eu lieu les festivités, avec une première journée gratuite au Boca Café en face de la gare, en compagnie notamment de Brigitte Bop et M26.7, puis direction le Palais Des Grottes pour les deux jours suivants, avec Tagada Jones, Lion’s Law, Krav Boca, No Turning Back, Opium du Peuple, Calcine et Douglas Hinton pour le vendredi. On vous raconte ces deux premières journées.

Jour 1 avec Brigitte Bop et M26.7
Jeudi fût un jour de pluie à Cambrai, mais pas de quoi décourager les plus gros fêtards du Cambrésis, qui se sont données rendez-vous devant la petite scène installée sur la terrasse du Boca Café, juste en face de la gare. Une soirée sous le signe du cirque pour commencer ce BetiZfest tout en douceur. Pendant que le public tente s’abriter pour ne pas avoir leur pinte rempli d’eau, c’est quatre groupes qui vont se succéder : M26.7, Brigitte Bop, Les Guzzlers et les légendes du punk français : Burning Heads. On ne va pas vous mentir, la météo a eu raison de nous mais comme vous pouvez le constater sur les photos ci dessous, la bonne ambiance était au rendez-vous. Les chansons sur la fête, l’alcool, et surtout bien politisé (c’est du punk après tout !) étaient de sortie.
Douglas Hinton
Pour débuter ce deuxième jour, et premier au Palais des Grottes, nous partons à la découverte de la nouvelle scène installée en extérieur près des stands de restauration. Pour ce premier jour c’est Douglas Hinton qui proposera plusieurs sets et autant dire que le musicien nous accroche dès les premières secondes avec son jeu de guitare énergique. Malgré un public arrivant petit à petit vu que les portes viennent d’ouvrir le musicien ne se démonte pas et nous propose un mélange de morceaux de sa composition mais surtout des reprises de morceaux de légende comme « My Generation » de The Who ou encore « Stuck In The Middle With You » de Stealers Wheel par exemple. Le musicien écossais habitant dans la région fait vivre son folk rock de la plus belle des manières. On espère avoir la chance de le revoir dans un café concert de la région pour mieux profiter de sa voix et de son jeu de guitare de haute volée. Un début de journée qui annonce que du bon pour la suite!
Calcine
Calcine sont les premiers à passer sur la scène principale du festival et vont démarrer en trombes avec leur hardcore taillé pour la scène. Au chant EM donne tout pour réveiller le public et met tout le monde d’accord avec sa voix puissante. L’énergie du groupe montre à quel point le hardcore made in Paris est en pleine explosion. On retrouve tout ce qu’on aime dans le genre musical avec une touche unique et un son maîtrisé. Evidemment leur album Common Love Common Nausea est mis en avant et nous révèle tout son potentiel avec des versions live toujours plus captivantes. Les riffs de LJ et les rythmiques bien senties de OG à la basse et LO à la batterie font bouger les premiers téméraires du pit. Evidemment le set file à une vitesse folle mais force est de constater qu’on ne pouvait rêver meilleur choix pour ouvrir cette journée entre punk et hardcore! Calcine ont clairement marqué les esprits présents et on ne manquera pour rien au monde leur passage à The Black Lab le 30 novembre prochain en compagnie de Guilt Trip, Big Boy et Whispers.
Opium Du Peuple
Après un set d’anthologie à l’Arsenal Rock la semaine précédente, il est temps de retrouver Opium Du Peuple pour une seconde fiesta! Le groupe arrive sur scène en force avec son mix de morceaux cultes de NTM, et on observe vite que le line up a un peu bouger par rapport au set précédent. Evidemment on sait le collectif mouvent et ses membres pris par d’autres projets. C’est donc à deux et non à trois que les vocalistes feront le show ce soir, ce qui fera un peu évoluer la setlist pour d’autres reprises à la sauce punk! « Santiano » sera évidemment repris en chœur avant que « Tout l’Amour » de Dario Moreno vienne mettre un peu d’émotion dans tout ca, mais toujours avec cette énergie communicative. Machine à la batterie fêtera de nouveau son anniversaire, étonnant quand on sait que c’était déjà le cas la semaine précédente, et nous gratifiera d’un solo d’anthologie avec ses trois grosses caisses qui résonnent dans tout le Palais des Grottes. Evidemment « La Foule » met tout le monde en joie avant que la cornemuse soit de sortie pour « Le Lion Est Mort Ce Soir ». Cette version cesse de nous captiver tant le son de l’instrument, jouée de mains de maître(esse) par notre amie Opiumette, vient apporter un véritable plus à un morceau connu des tout le public. Et que serait une date dans le Nord sans la mythique reprise de Pierre Bachelet avec « Les Corons » pour clôturer un show danstesque qui aura collé le sourire à tout le public présent ce soir.
No Turning Back
Retour au hardcore avec le seul groupe étranger de la soirée, No Turning Back. Venus des Pays-Bas, le groupe ne fait pas dans la dentelle et balance de suite un hardcore bien percutant qui réveillera les amateurs de moulinets. Le groupe arrivé juste quelques minutes avant le début de son set ne se démonte pas et propose un son old school qui ravit un public clairement ravis de les retrouver. Leur envie de se déchainer se ressent tout au long du set et incite toujours plus le public à mettre toute son énergie dans la bataille. Les morceaux vont vite et ne laissent que peu de temps pour se poser tant ils s’enchainent vite. Pas de repos pour les braves et c’est bien ça que l’on aime dans ce genre de concerts! Le groupe profite à fond de la scène et lâche le meilleur de plus de vingt ans de musique, et autant dire qu’on en prend plein la vue. Une belle parenthèse hardcore qui a eu le mérite de montrer que même en plein rush le groupe néerlandais sait livrer un set sans accrocs.
Krav Boca
Amateur.ice.s de mélange des genres le prochain concert est pour vous! C’est au tour de Krav Boca de monter sur scène pour le plus gros spectacle du week-end. Car oui en plus de leur mélange habile entre rap et punk, le collectif Franco-marocano-grec nous offre une véritable performance. D’entrée les vocalistes masqués nous en mettent plein la vue avec un chant plein de colère et vindicatif à souhait. Un des performeurs n’hésite pas à danser avec des torches enflammées partout sur son dos avant de revenir avec sa disqueuse pour toujours plus d’étincelles. L’autre performeuse présente ce soir alternera entre duos avec l’homme enflammé et chant tout aussi engagé que ses deux comparses. Côté instruments une mandoline viendra nous offrir des sons toujours plus variés. Le public en prend plein la vue et se déchaine dans le pit à coup de pogos et de slams. « Kravmikaz » ou encore « Fumigène » donnent l’occasion d’une communion totale entre artistes et public. D’ailleurs sur le dernier morceau cité quelques fumigènes seront claqués dans le public pour une ambiance digne des plus belles manifs. Les morceaux s’enchaînent avec toujours autant d’énergie et de messages forts passés et c’est après un dernier titre explosif à souhait que le groupe quitte la scène en ayant mis le Palais des Grottes sans dessus dessous! C’est simple Krav Boca ont tout donné pour un show qui restera clairement gravé dans les annales du festival!
Lion’s Law
Il est temps de retourner du côté de Paris pour une bonne dose de Oi! avec Lion’s Law. D’entrée on a le droit a « Cricufied » morceau tiré de Evermore, le dernier album en date. Ce titre révèle toute sa puissance en live porté par la voix de Wattie. Le public reprends les classiques comme « Lafayette » à pleins poumons et le pit repart avec une belle intensité. Le groupe parisien nous livre le meilleur de sa carrière avec un mélange habile de nouveautés comme « Brother » et de morceaux mythiques comme « Brother ». L’ambiance est excellente et on sent le plaisir des musiciens à jouer devant un public aussi impliqué! Thomas Viallefond a joué la veille avec Burning Heads et est de retour ce soir pour toujours plus de parties de batterie d’anthologies. Son énergie semble intarissable et nous emporte toujours plus dans notre envie illimitée de Oi! L’avantage de la durée du set qui leur est alloué c’est qu’on a le droit à une avalanche de titres qu’on hésite pas à reprendre avec le reste de la fosse. L’enchaînement « I Don’t Give a Damn » et « PBS » laisse à Vovott et Daick l’occasion de nous balancer leurs meilleurs riffs et à Swann de faire résonner ses cordes de basse toujours plus fort. Franck de Breakout viendra partager un titre avec Wattie pour le plus grand plaisir des fans présents. « Fidèle » nous montre que même en français le groupe ne perd rien de sa gouaille. « The Code » et « Knock Em’ Out » viennent retourner le pit une fois de plus. La fin approche mais le groupe ne faiblit pas et laisse exploser cette étincelle une fois de plus avec « The World Is On Fire ». « For My Clan » nous donne l’occasion de chanter une dernière fois avant que la reprise de « I Ran » de A Flock Of Seagulls viennent mettre fin à un show d’anthologie qu’on est pas prêt d’oublier tant il nous a remémorer pourquoi on adore autant Lion’s Law et la Oi! On a déjà hâte de voir le groupe de retour dans la région dès que possible!
Tagada Jones
La soirée est passée à une vitesse folle vu la qualité des sets proposés mais il reste Tagada Jones qui comptent bien terminer la soirée en apothéose. L’intro résonne puis « Le Dernier Baril » vient mettre le feu aux poudres. Niko est en grande forme vocale et met toute son énergie dès ce premier titre qui annonce un set des plus mémorables. Les riffs de La Guiche sur « Je Suis Démocratie » font bouger le pit. Ce morceau toujours plus important quand on voit l’état du monde résonne fort en nous! Les cultes « Zéro de Conduite » ou « De L’Amour Et Du Sang » seront repris en chœur par un public en fusion. Sur les écrans on voit que les premiers rangs sont occupés par bon nombre d’enfants qui semblent connaître la discographie aussi bien que nous! « Cargo » ou « Le Poignard » donnent à la section rythmique menée par Waner à la basse et Job à la batterie l’occasion de renforcer le pit avec des rythmiques on ne peut plus enragées. Niko rendra ensuite hommage aux victimes du terrorisme avec ‘Vendredi 13″. Ce titre résonne toujours fort en nous et la communion entre la scène et le public n’en sera que renforcée une fois de plus. Le groupe livre une prestation qui met tout le monde d’accord! « De Rires Et De Larmes » et « Manipulé » relancent un pit toujours plus large avant que « Le Feu Aux Poudres » viennent doucement amorcer la fin du show. Evidemment depuis 2017, pas de concert des bretons sans le mythique « Mort Aux Cons » qui verra un membre du public en fauteuil se faire porter par une foule en liesse jusqu’à la scène pour profiter pleinement de quelques minutes du concert sur scène. La fin aurait du sonner pour ce concert de Tagada Jones mais le groupe se voit donner l’occasion de faire un titre de plus! Niko annonce en rendant hommage à Parabellum que le titre joué sera « Cayenne »! Il n’en faut pas plus pour voir le BetiZFest devenir une chorale géante! Et deux jeunes fans présentes au premier rangs viendront d’ailleurs reprendre le titre avec le groupe sur scène en partageant de beaux moments de complicité avec les musiciens, visiblement ravis que les jeunes générations connaissent ce titre mythique du punk français aussi bien! Une fin parfaite pour ce concert du groupe rennais! On a hâte de les retrouver le 23 octobre prochain au Splendid de Lille pour une nouvelle soirée de fête punk en leur compagnie!
Ambiance
Ces deux premières journées orientées punk et hardcore ont tenues toutes leur promesses et lancent de la plus belle des manières cette nouvelle édition du BetiZFest. Encore une fois le festival régale avec sa programmation qui laisse une très belle place à la scène hexagonale. On part se reposer sous la pluie prêts pour remettre ça le lendemain pour la dernière journée de cette édition 2025! Un grand bravo à toutes les équipes du festival et aux bénévoles pour cet accueil toujours incroyable!
For over 20 years now, BetiZfest has been the place to be for metal and rock in the Cambrésis region. For the 2025 edition, the festivities took place over three days, with the first day free of charge at the Boca Café opposite the station, featuring Brigitte Bop and M26.7, before heading to the Palais Des Grottes for the next two days, with Tagada Jones, Lion’s Law, Krav Boca, No Turning Back, Opium du Peuple, Calcine and Douglas Hinton on Friday. Day 1 with Brigitte Bop and M26.7
Thursday was a rainy day in Cambrai, but that wasn’t enough to discourage the biggest revellers in the Cambrésis region, who gathered in front of the small stage set up on the terrace of the Boca Café, just opposite the station. An evening under the sign of the circus to start this BetiZfest gently. While the audience tried to take cover to avoid having their pints filled with water, four bands took to the stage: M26.7, Brigitte Bop, Les Guzzlers and the legends of French punk: Burning Heads. We’re not going to lie to you, the weather got the better of us, but as you can see from the photos below, the atmosphere was great. Songs about partying, drinking and, above all, politics (this is punk, after all!) were out in force.
Douglas Hinton
To kick off this second day, and our first at the Palais des Grottes, we’re off to discover the new stage set up outside near the food stalls. On this first day, Douglas Hinton will be playing several sets, and it’s fair to say that the musician’s energetic guitar playing will have us hooked from the very first seconds. Despite the fact that the doors had only just opened and the crowd was arriving slowly, the musician didn’t let up, playing a mix of his own compositions and covers of legendary songs such as The Who‘s ‘My Generation’ and Stealers Wheel‘s ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’. The Scottish musician, who lives in the region, brings his folk rock to life in the most beautiful of ways. We hope we’ll have the chance to see him again in one of the region’s café-concert venues, so we can get the full benefit of his voice and top-flight guitar playing. It’s a great start to the day, and we’re looking forward to what’s to come!
Calcine
Calcine are the first to take to the festival’s main stage, and they get things off to a roaring start with their hardcore that’s built for the stage. On vocals, EM does everything in her power to wake up the crowd and gets everyone on the same wavelength with her powerful voice. The band’s energy shows just how much hardcore made in Paris is exploding. It’s got everything you love about the genre, with a unique touch and a controlled sound. Of course, their album Common Love Common Nausea takes centre stage, revealing its full potential with increasingly captivating live versions. LJ‘s riffs and the well-crafted rhythms of OG on bass and LO on drums get the first daredevils in the pit moving. Obviously the set went by at breakneck speed, but it’s clear that we couldn’t have asked for a better choice to open this day of punk and hardcore! Calcine have clearly made their mark on the crowd, and we wouldn’t miss their appearance at The Black Lab on November 30th in the company of Guilt Trip, Big Boy and Whispers.
Opium Du Peuple
After an anthology set at Arsenal Rock the previous week, it’s time to catch up with Opium Du Peuple for a second fiesta! The band hit the stage in full force with their mix of cult NTM tracks, and it soon became apparent that the line-up had shifted slightly from the previous set. Obviously, we know that the collective is in flux and that its members are busy with other projects. So it’s two vocalists instead of three who will be performing tonight, which means the setlist will evolve a bit to include more punk covers! ‘Santiano’ will of course be taken up by the chorus, before Dario Moreno‘s ‘Tout l’Amour’ adds a little emotion to the mix, but always with the same infectious energy. Machine, on drums, celebrates his birthday once again – a surprising feat given that it was already the case the week before – and gives us an anthology solo with his three bass drums echoing throughout the Palais des Grottes. Of course “La Foule” gets everyone going before the bagpipes come out for “Le Lion Est Mort Ce Soir”. This version never ceases to captivate, as the sound of the instrument, played masterfully by our friend Opiumette, adds a real plus to a song that is familiar to the whole audience. And what would a date in the North be without Pierre Bachelet‘s legendary cover of “Les Corons” to round off a dance show that will have put a smile on the faces of everyone in the audience.
No Turning Back
Back to hardcore with the only foreign band of the evening, No Turning Back. Hailing from the Netherlands, the band don’t pull any punches and immediately throw down some hard-hitting hardcore that’s sure to wake up reel fans. The band arrived just a few minutes before the start of their set and never let up, delivering an old-school sound that delighted the audience. Their desire to unleash their fury can be felt throughout the set, encouraging the audience to put all their energy into the battle. The songs went by so quickly that there was little time to rest. There’s no rest for the brave, and that’s what we love about this kind of concert! The band take full advantage of the stage and unleash the best of over twenty years of music, and it’s fair to say that you’re in for a real treat. It was a fine hardcore interlude, and one that had the merit of showing that even in full rush the Dutch band can deliver a smooth set.
Krav Boca
If you’re a fan of mixing genres, the next concert is for you! It’s Krav Boca‘s turn to take to the stage for the biggest show of the weekend. In addition to their skilful blend of rap and punk, the Franco-Moroccan-Greek collective put on a real performance. Right from the off, the masked vocalists blow us away with their angry, vindictive vocals. One of the performers has no qualms about dancing around with flaming torches all over his back, before returning with his record player for more sparks. The other performer present this evening alternates between duets with the flaming man and vocals just as committed as her two companions. On the instrumental side, a mandolin will be providing us with ever more varied sounds. The audience were in for a real treat, and the pit went wild with pogos and slams. ‘Kravmikaz’ and ‘Fumigène’ bring the audience and the artists together in total communion. On the last track, a few smoke bombs are set off in the audience, creating an atmosphere worthy of the finest demonstrations. After a final explosive track, the band left the stage having turned the Palais des Grottes upside down! Simply put, Krav Boca gave their all for a show that will go down in the annals of the festival!
Lion’s Law
It’s time to head back to Paris for a good dose of Oi! with Lion’s Law. First up is “Cricufied” from Evermore, their latest album. This track reveals all its power live, carried by Wattie‘s voice. The crowd sing along to classics like ‘Lafayette’ at the top of their lungs, and the pit starts up again with great intensity. The Parisian band deliver the best of their career with a clever mix of new songs like ‘Brother’ and legendary tracks like ‘Brother’. The atmosphere was excellent, and the musicians were clearly enjoying playing to such a committed audience! Thomas Viallefond played with Burning Heads the night before, and is back again this evening with even more drumming anthologies. His energy seems inexhaustible, and keeps us going for more Oi! The advantage of the length of their set is that we’re treated to an avalanche of songs that we don’t hesitate to sing along to with the rest of the crowd. The combination of “I Don’t Give a Damn” and “PBS” gave Vovott and Daick the chance to throw down their best riffs and Swann to make his bass strings resonate ever louder. Franck from Breakout comes along to share a track with Wattie, much to the delight of the fans present. ‘Fidèle’ shows us that even in French the band has lost none of its gouaille. ‘The Code’ and ‘Knock Em’ Out’ turn the pit upside down once again. The end is nigh but the band don’t falter and let that spark explode once more with ‘The World Is On Fire’. ‘For My Clan’ gives us the chance to sing along one last time before the cover of A Flock Of Seagulls‘ ‘I Ran’ puts an end to an anthology show that we won’t soon forget as it reminds us why we love Lion’s Law and the Oi so much! We can’t wait to see the band back in the region as soon as possible!
Tagada Jones
The evening has gone by at breakneck speed, given the quality of the sets on offer, but Tagada Jones are intent on bringing the evening to a climactic close. The intro rings out and ‘Le Dernier Baril’ sets the stage alight. Niko is in top form vocally and puts all his energy into this first track, which heralds a most memorable set. La Guiche‘s riffs on ‘Je Suis Démocratie’ get the pit moving. This song, ever more important when you consider the state of the world, resonates strongly with us! The cult classics ‘Zéro de Conduite’ and ‘De L’Amour Et Du Sang’ are taken up in chorus by a melting-pot audience. On the screens, you can see that the front rows are occupied by a good number of children who seem to know the discography as well as we do! ‘Cargo’ and ‘Le Poignard’ gave the rhythm section, led by Waner on bass and Job on drums, the opportunity to reinforce the pit with some of their most furious rhythms. Niko then pays tribute to the victims of terrorism with “Vendredi 13”. This song still resonates strongly with us, and the communion between the stage and the audience is only strengthened once again. « De Rires Et De Larmes‘ and “Manipulé” revived the ever-growing pit before ’Le Feu Aux Poudres » gently brought the show to a close. Of course, since 2017, no Breton concert is complete without the legendary ‘Mort Aux Cons’, which sees a member of the audience in a wheelchair being carried by the jubilant crowd to the stage to fully enjoy a few minutes of the concert. The Tagada Jones concert should have come to an end, but the band were given the opportunity to play one more song! Paying tribute to Parabellum, Niko announces that the song to be played will be ‘Cayenne’! That’s all it takes to turn BetiZFest into a giant choir! And two young fans in the front row came on stage to sing the song with the band, sharing moments of complicity with the musicians, who were clearly delighted that the younger generation were so familiar with this legendary French punk song! A perfect end to this concert by the band from Rennes! We can’t wait to see them again on October 23rf at the Splendid in Lille for another evening of punk festivities with them!
The first two days of the BetiZFest, with their focus on punk and hardcore, lived up to their promise and got things off to a flying start. Once again, the festival had a treat in store with a line-up that gave pride of place to the French scene. We’re off to get some rest in the rain, ready to do it all again the next day for the final day of this 2025 edition! A big well done to all the festival teams and volunteers for their always incredible welcome!
Sounding Shivers
