Le groupe de black metal italo-finlandais Margantha dévoile son premier EP ce vendredi 27 juin sur le label Rockshots Records. Les membres du groupe ont effacé toutes les traces de leurs expériences passées sur la scène musicale pour devenir l’anonyme Nocturnus, s’inspirant de contes mystérieux, noirs et sombres pour livrer cet EP immersif et conceptuel : Blood Moon Sacrifice.

D’une durée de vingt minutes, l’EP nous plonge dans une légende racontée par la grand-mère du chanteur, où un loup-garou hante le village d’un chasseur. Les quatre chansons mettent en musique cette histoire, décrivant des moments clés tout en nous immergeant dans le récit avec une structure directe et simple qui nous reste en tête.
L’EP s’ouvre sur le titre « Blood Moon Sacrifice », qui nous plonge dans l’ambiance d’un conte de fées sombre. La basse et la batterie nous entraînent dans une atmosphère lourde et inquiétante. Les premières étapes de la narration apparaissent, Nocturnus I chantant comment le protagoniste fait ses adieux à sa famille après avoir caché les blessures causées par la morsure d’un loup-garou. Alors que la malédiction prend effet, l’homme s’abandonne à son destin, et le rythme pressant nous fait comprendre que rien ne peut être fait pour sauver le chasseur. « Curse Of The Full Moon » suit avec un rythme plus soutenu, créant une ballade hypnotique qui décrit la transformation de l’homme en bête, laissant son passé derrière lui. Les accords de guitare respirent le malaise et l’incertitude, tandis que la chanson dans son ensemble fait écho aux compositions classiques de black metal, avec des tempos allongés et des rythmes obsessionnels et martelés.
Le morceau suivant, « Wolves At The Door », s’ouvre sur un riff sombre, laissant immédiatement entendre que cette créature primitive a soif de sang et de chair, rendant ce loup-garou unique aussi menaçant qu’une meute entière. La chanson mélange la vitesse et la mélodie du black metal classique avec des riffs inspirés du death metal mélodique, offrant un morceau puissant et dynamique rappelant un loup-garou à la recherche de sa proie.
Pour clore cet album conceptuel, « Miariam and the Endless Night » introduit un changement de ton narratif et musical, le protagoniste devenant une femme. Les accords s’éloignent également des schémas traditionnels du black metal explorés jusqu’à présent. Décrivant une nuit qui semble sans fin, la chanson suit ce nouveau personnage alors qu’elle tente de se défendre contre la fureur et la soif de sang du loup-garou. Elle se termine dans un crescendo de vitesse et de riffs tout en gardant une empreinte mélodique.
Les trois musiciens, unis par leur passion commune pour le black metal, l’esthétique de l’horreur et la narration conceptuelle, ont livré un premier album saisissant. Blood Moon Sacrifice est plus qu’un premier EP : c’est un conte porté par des générations, désormais immortalisé par le son. Le choix de construire l’album autour d’une légende familiale donne au projet une profondeur intime. Avec une narration solide, une atmosphère évocatrice et une exécution brute mais cohérente, Margantha s’impose comme un groupe à suivre dans le domaine de la musique extrême conceptuelle.

The twenty-minute-long EP plunges us into a legend that the singer’s grandmother once told, where a werewolf is haunting a hunter’s village. The four songs put this story into music, depicting key moments while immersing us in the narrative with a direct and simple structure that sticks in our heads.
The EP opens with the track “Blood Moon Sacrifice”, setting the mood for a dark fairytale. The bass and drums lead us into a heavy and unsettling atmosphere. The first steps of the narrative appear, with Nocturnus I singing how the protagonist bids farewell to his family after hiding the wounds from a werewolf bite. As the curse takes effect, the man surrenders to his fate, and the pressing rhythm lets us know that nothing can be done to save the hunter. “Curse Of The Full Moon” follows with a steadier pace, creating a hypnotic ballad that describes the transformation from man to beast, leaving his past behind. The guitar chords ooze unease and uncertainty, while the song as a whole echoes classic black metal compositions, with elongated tempos and obsessive, hammering rhythms.
The next track, “Wolves At The Door”, opens with a dark riff, immediately conveying that this primal creature thirsts for blood and flesh, making this single werewolf as threatening as a full pack. The song blends classic black metal speed and melody with melodic death metal-inspired riffs, offering a powerful and dynamic track reminiscent of a werewolf on the hunt for its prey.
To close this concept album, “Miariam and the Endless Night” introduces a shift both in narrative and musical tone, as the protagonist becomes a woman. The chords also diverge from the traditional black metal patterns explored so far. Describing a night that seems never-ending, the song follows this new character as she tries to defend herself against the fury and bloodlust of the werewolf. It ends in a crescendo of speed and riffs while still maintaining a melodic imprint.
The three musicians, united by their shared passion for black metal, horror aesthetics, and conceptual storytelling, have delivered a striking first release. Blood Moon Sacrifice is more than just a debut EP: it’s a tale carried by generations, now immortalized in sound. The choice to build the album around a family legend gives the project an intimate depth. With a solid narrative, evocative atmosphere, and a raw yet cohesive execution, Margantha establishes itself as a band to watch in the realm of concept-driven extreme music.
