Depuis 15 ans les norvégiens de Leonov nous offrent un celestial doom des plus envoutants. Pour cette année 2025, le groupe nous propose un nouvel EP de quatre titres. Intitulé Shape Of Ash, il est disponible dès le 4 juillet via Pelagic Records. Deux ans après Procession, il est temps de découvrir ce que le groupe d’Oslo nous réserve.

Les guitares de Rune Gilje et Ole Jørgen Reindal nous accueillent dans « Samaritan » avant que la voix majestueuse de Tåran Reindal, également organiste du groupe, vienne nous envouter avec ce chant lent et prenant à souhait. Musicalement le groupe est au sommet de son art avec un doom emprunt de magie qui colle des frissons dès les premiers instants. La pleine puissance arrive en fin de titre en laissant éclater le travail de Morten Kjelling à la basse et celui de Jon-Vetle Lunden à la batterie, tous deux en grande forme. Le morceau suivant continue de nous plonger dans le thème purificateur de cet album avec toujours cette voix versatile à souhait qui laisse nos émotions virevolter. Le son est toujours plus lourd mais aussi toujours plus travaillé pour nous en mettre plein la vue. « Bygg En Menneskekropp » nous emporte chez un couple en pleine dispute conjuguale, et pour illustrer cela le chanteur folk norvégien Syvert Feed vient ajouter sa voix à celle de Tåran Reindal. Evidemment l’union finale de leurs voix magnifiques fait de ce titre un immanquable de cet EP, également servi par une instrumentation toujours aussi travaillée et sublime. Enfin le feu purificateur nous emporte avec la piste titulaire « Shape Of Ash », veritable merveille illustrant parfaitement le celestial doom du groupe norvégien. Encore une fois l’envoutement est total et chaque membre du groupe s’illustre au sommet de son art.
Difficile de ne pas être emportés par Shape Of Ash, dernier EP de Leonov tant la musique nous colle des frissons dès les premiers instants et jusqu’à la fin de l’écoute. Les norvégiens nous plongent dans un univers envoutant à souhait du quel on a pas envie de sortir. Un EP de haute volée qu’on vous encourage à découvrir au plus vite! On espère voir le groupe partir en tournée au plus vite pour entendre ces titres en live!

For the last 15 years, the Norwegians in Leonov have been offering us the most bewitching celestial doom. For this year 2025, the band is offering us a new four-track EP. Entitled Shape Of Ash, it will be available from July 4th via Pelagic Records. Two years after Procession, it’s time to find out what the Oslo band have in store for us.
The guitars of Rune Gilje and Ole Jørgen Reindal welcome us into ‘Samaritan’ before the majestic voice of Tåran Reindal, also the band’s organist, takes us under its spell with slow, catchy vocals. Musically, the band are at the top of their game with a magical doom that sends shivers down your spine right from the start. The full power of Morten Kjelling on bass and Jon-Vetle Lunden on drums, both in fine form, comes at the end of the track. The next track continues to plunge us into the purifying theme of this album, with the same versatile vocals that let our emotions run wild. The sound is ever heavier, but also ever more carefully crafted to blow our minds. ‘Bygg En Menneskekropp’ takes us to a couple in the midst of a marital dispute, with Norwegian folk singer Syvert Feed adding his voice to that of Tåran Reindal. Obviously, the final union of their magnificent voices makes this track a must-have on this EP, and it’s also served up by instrumentation that’s as polished and sublime as ever. Finally, the purifying fire sweeps us away with the titular track, “Shape Of Ash”, a true marvel perfectly illustrating the celestial doom of the Norwegian band. Once again, the spell is complete and every member of the band is at the top of his game.
It’s hard not to be swept away by Shape Of Ash, Leonov‘s latest EP, as the music sends shivers down your spine from the first moment you hear it until the end. The Norwegians plunge us into a bewitching universe from which we don’t want to leave. It’s a top-notch EP that we urge you to discover as soon as possible! We hope to see the band go on tour as soon as possible to hear these tracks live!
