La canicule est bien en place sur la région lilloise en ce 1er juillet mais nous nous rendons tout de même à La Bulle Café pour le concert immanquable de Valley Of The Sun, organisé par Roaring Tubes. Pour compléter l’affiche ce sont les arrageois de Ghost Town Dog’s qui auront l’occasion de nous présenter leur heavy rock stoner. La soirée s’annonçait chaude et pleine de gros riffs mais on imaginait pas à ce point !

Après avoir profité de l’ombre présente dans la cour de la salle il est temps de rentrer dans la salle pour y découvrir Ghost Town Dog’s! Le groupe venu d’Arras n’aura aucun mal à se mettre le public dans la poche avec un rock heavy teinté de stoner qui vient satisfaire l’envie de riffs puissants et de rythmiques prenantes d’un public revenant tout juste du Rock In Bourlon et en particulier de sa journée stoner/psyché. C’est avec envie que le groupe nous présente ses titres et il faut dire qu’ils font mouche! Leur son est maîtrisé et la voix du chanteur apporte la dose d’énergie supplémentaire qui fait du set un immanquable de ce début de soirée. Evidemment la chaleur monte en flèche dans la salle et rapidement on part se mettre un peu au frais dehors avant de revenir au plus vite voir la suite de la prestation. Même si ce que propose le groupe n’est pas forcément notre style musical de prédilection, difficile de ne pas être enthousiasmé par la performance de cette formation en grande forme qui déroule des titres enthousiasmants. L’accueil est excellent et le public n’hésite pas à les applaudir avec vigueur entre chaque titre. Après un set qui nous laisse avec une nouvelle preuve de la vitalité de la scène régionale, on ne peut que vous encourager à suivre l’actualité de Ghost Town Dog’s et à aller découvrir leur travail!
Il fait désormais une chaleur insoutenable dans la salle, mais on ne manquerait pour rien au monde l’arrivée de Valley Of The Sun sur la scène de La Bulle! Le groupe de l’Ohio n’a jamais aussi bien porté son nom que ce soir, et c’est parti pour une déferlante de riffs comme on les adore. Ryan Ferrier excelle autant au chant qu’à la guitare et nous livre dès « Hearts Aflame » une belle démonstration de tout son talent. Côté rythmique, Chris Sweeney à la basse et Johnny Kathman à la batterie ne sont pas en reste et donnent tout pour nous écraser un peu plus avec leur jeu toujours plus énergique et captivant. Evidemment le groupe met en avant son album Quintessence sorti l’an dernier, mais n’oublie pas ses titres cultes avec par exemple « Mariner’s Tale » issu de leur EP sorti en 2011! C’est donc un show naviguant dans leur discographie qui nous est proposé avec toujours cette envie de nous proposer une prestation d’anthologie malgré la chaleur. Un fan présent dans le public n’hésitera pas entre les morceaux à offrir aux trois musiciens un peu de fraicheur grâce à son éventail, bien utile ce soir! Comme pour le groupe précédent des petites incursions dans la cour sont indispensables pour ne pas terminer écraser par la chaleur, mais elles seront le plus courtes possible pour ne rien manquer du set. « The Late Heavy Bombardment » terminera de mettre tout le monde d’accord avec ses riffs mémorables et percutants à souhait. Le groupe nous remercie de notre présence et continue de nous livrer le meilleur de sa belle discographie avec l’excellent « Old Gods »! On sent que et le groupe et le public souffrent de la température caniculaire dans la salle et quand la formation américaine nous annonce les deux derniers titres, on se dit que c’est plutôt une bonne chose! Non pas que la musique ne soit pas à la hauteur, loin de nous cette idée, mais il devient difficile de rester dans la salle et surtout de rester concentré. Le groupe nous livre donc, avec toujours autant de brio, le morceau titre de son dernier album avant de quitter la scène sous des applaudissements fournis.
Cette soirée en compagnie de Valley Of The Sun et Ghost Town Dog’s a tenue toutes ses promesses musicales malgré des conditions climatiques intenables! On espère voir les deux groupes revenir sous des températures plus agréables pour profiter au mieux de leurs set, mais en tout cas on repart les oreilles comblées par cette belle avalanche de riffs! Encore une belle soirée de stoner sur Lille, qui montre que le genre à un public fidèle prêt à braver tous les dangers pour soutenir les groupes!

The heatwave is well and truly in place in the Lille region on this first of July, but we’re still heading to La Bulle Café for the unmissable Valley Of The Sun concert, organised by Roaring Tubes. Rounding off the bill were Ghost Town Dog’s from Arras, who were on hand to present their heavy stoner rock. The evening promises to be hot and full of big riffs, but we had no idea!

After taking advantage of the shade in the courtyard of the venue, it was time to head back inside to discover Ghost Town Dog’s! This band from Arras had no trouble winning over the crowd with their heavy, stoner-tinged rock, satisfying the craving for powerful riffs and gripping rhythms of an audience just back from Rock In Bourlon, and in particular its stoner/psychedelic day. The band were eager to present their songs, and it has to be said that they hit the nail on the head! Their sound is mastered and the singer’s voice adds that extra dose of energy that makes this set a must-see at the start of the evening. Of course, the heat in the room is soaring and we quickly head outside to cool off a bit before returning as soon as possible to watch the rest of the set. Even if the band’s music isn’t necessarily our preferred style, it’s hard not to be enthralled by the performance of this band in top form, who deliver some exciting tracks. The reception was excellent and the audience didn’t hesitate to applaud them vigorously between each track. After a set that left us with further proof of the vitality of the regional scene, we can only encourage you to follow Ghost Town Dog’s news and discover their work!
It’s now unbearably hot in the venue, but we wouldn’t miss Valley Of The Sun‘s arrival on the La Bulle stage for the world! The band from Ohio have never lived up to their name better than tonight, and it’s off to a riot of riffs just the way we like them. Ryan Ferrier excels on both vocals and guitar, and in “Hearts Aflame” gives us a fine demonstration of his talent. As for the rhythm section, Chris Sweeney on bass and Johnny Kathman on drums are not to be outdone, doing their utmost to crush us a little more with their increasingly energetic and captivating playing. Of course, the band will be showcasing their Quintessence album released last year, but they won’t be forgetting their cult tracks, such as “Mariner’s Tale” from their EP released in 2011! So it’s a show that takes us through their discography, with the same desire to give us an anthology performance despite the heat. A fan in the audience didn’t hesitate to offer the three musicians a bit of fresh air between songs with his fan, which came in very handy this evening! As with the previous band, short forays into the courtyard were essential to avoid being crushed by the heat, but they were kept as short as possible so as not to miss anything of the set. ‘The Late Heavy Bombardment’ finishes everyone off with its memorable, hard-hitting riffs. The band thank us for coming and continue to deliver the best of their fine discography with the excellent “Old Gods”! You can feel that both the band and the audience are suffering from the scorching temperature in the room, and when the American band announce the last two tracks, you think it’s a good thing! Not that the music wasn’t up to scratch, far from it, but it was hard to stay in the room and concentrate. The band then performed the title track from their latest album, as brilliantly as ever, before leaving the stage to rapturous applause.
This evening with Valley Of The Sun and Ghost Town Dog’s lived up to all its musical promises despite the unbearable weather conditions! We hope to see the two bands back in more pleasant temperatures to get the most out of their sets, but in any case we’ll be going home with our ears filled by this avalanche of riffs! Another great evening of stoner in Lille, showing that the genre has a loyal following ready to brave any danger to support the bands!
