Ce 6 juillet avait lieu le dernier concert de la saison au sein des murs de l’Aéronef et pas des moindres puisque Steve Von Till, guitariste et chanteur du célèbre groupe Neurosis était de passage. Accompagné de Venediktos Tempelboom et sa guitare, et de Greet et son harmonium, non annoncé initialement sur la date, mais présent sur tout le reste de la tournée, que l’on connait dans le groupe de black métal Dawn Ray’d.

Les réseaux sociaux de l’Aéronef annonçaient une ouverture de la salle à 18h30, et pourtant, à cette heure précise, Venediktos Tempelboom est monté sur scène, devant un public assez peu nombreux encore, mais les plus fidèles spectateurs étaient déjà en place. Avec une guitare à 12 cordes, l’artiste belge nous a plongé dans un univers totalement méditatif, où la technicité et le talent s’imprégnaient de nous, entre émerveillement, et envoûtement. Difficile de croire qu’il n’y a qu’un seul musicien devant nous, tant les sonorités de sa guitare s’entrechoque et forme une superposition de riff. L’artiste joue à une vitesse folle, rendant cet effet encore plus puissant et on est totalement captivé par cette performance.
A peine 10 minutes de pause, le temps d’installer un harmonium au milieu de la scène que Greet prends place. Aucune annonce ne sera faite pour nous préciser l’ajout de cet artiste dans le line-up de la soirée, mais les plus observateurs des réseaux sociaux de Steve Von Till auront remarqué que son nom en ouverture était sur l’affiche depuis le début. Quoi qu’il en soit, Greet va nous jouer, un peu en vitesse, trois morceaux puissants. Il regarde le ciel en chantant, frappe du pied pour donner le rythme, mais surtout joue de l’harmonium, instrument à vent que l’on n’a pas assez l’habitude de voir en live. Ces 12 minutes de concerts déposent un sentiment très « Midsommar » dans la salle à mon goût, comme une téléportation au cœur même d’un rite religieux. C’est beau, c’est fort, c’est surprenant, et on en redemande.
Dernier changement de plateau de la saison pour laisser place au maître : Steve Von Till. Après un passage au Black Lab, en disposition assise deux ans auparavant, nous avions hâte de voir l’évolution de son spectacle. Avec sa voix ténébreuse, et surtout envoûtante, l’artiste est accompagné cette fois ci de deux musiciens. Un violoncelliste, et un claviériste multi-instrumentaliste puisqu’il sortira tantôt une basse, tantôt des percussions. Steve Von Till chante avec le coeur, mais aussi avec les bras, qu’il agite tel un chef d’orchestre, en direction du public comme un cadeau qu’il vient nous offrir. Et même lorsqu’il se place derrière son piano, on ressent le moment de partage assez intense. Le titre « Known But Not Named » est un réel coup de coeur, déposant une atmosphère assez tribale au concert, et des frissons sur nos bras. Le leader de Neurosis est impressionnant, comme à son habitude, et le public est captivé par ce moment de partage.
L’Aéronef nous a proposé une saison forte en émotions, en découverte, en partage. Finir cette saison culturelle avec Steve Von Till était une vraie réussite, pour nous rappeler ce qu’on aime tant chez eux : des concerts forts, avec un public ouvert à la découverte, à des prix imbattables, avec une équipe au top. On July 6th, the last concert of the season took place at the Aeronef, and not the least because Steve Von Till, guitarist and singer of the famous band Neurosis, was there. Accompanied by Venediktos Tempelboom and his guitar, and Greet and his harmonium, not initially announced on the date, but present throughout the rest of the tour, who we know from the black metal band Dawn Ray’d.

L’Aeronef’s social networks announced that the venue was due to open at 6.30pm, and yet at that very hour Venediktos Tempelboom took to the stage, in front of a fairly small audience, but the most loyal fans were already in place. With a 12-string guitar, the Belgian artist plunged us into a totally meditative universe, where technical skill and talent were imbued with a sense of wonder and bewitchment. It’s hard to believe that there’s just one musician in front of us, so much so that the sounds of his guitar collide and form a superposition of riffs. The artist plays at breakneck speed, making the effect even more powerful, and we’re totally captivated by this performance.
There was barely a 10-minute break, enough time to set up a harmonium in the middle of the stage before Greet took his place. No announcement will be made as to whether this artist has been added to the evening’s line-up, but those who keep an eye on Steve Von Till’s social networks will have noticed that his name was on the bill from the start. Be that as it may, Greet will be playing three powerful tracks in a bit of a hurry. He looks up at the sky as he sings, stamps his foot to set the rhythm and, above all, plays the harmonium, a wind instrument we don’t get to see live often enough. These 12 minutes of concerts leave a very “Midsommar” feeling in the room for my taste, like a teleportation to the very heart of a religious rite. It’s beautiful, it’s powerful, it’s surprising, and it leaves you wanting more.
It’s the last change of line-up of the season, as we make way for the master: Steve Von Till. After a stint at the seated Black Lab two years ago, we couldn’t wait to see how his show developed. With his dark, bewitching voice, the artist is accompanied this time by two musicians. A cellist, and a multi-instrumentalist keyboardist who will sometimes play bass, sometimes percussion. Steve Von Till sings from the heart, but also with his arms, which he waves like a conductor, in the direction of the audience like a gift he has come to offer us. And even when he stands behind his piano, the moment of sharing is quite intense. Known But Not Named » is a real favourite, bringing a tribal atmosphere to the concert and sending shivers down our arms. The Neurosis frontman is impressive, as usual, and the audience is captivated by this moment of sharing.
L’Aéronef has offered us a season full of emotion, discovery and sharing. Ending this cultural season with Steve Von Till was a real success, reminding us of what we love so much about them: strong concerts, with an audience open to discoveries, at unbeatable prices, with a top-notch team.
