Après deux albums en 2017 et 2020 les ayant définitivement mis sur la carte des groupes de death métal à suivre de près, les américains de Recorruptor nous présentent en cette mi-juillet leur troisième album studio, fruit de deux ans de travail en studio. Intitulé Sorrow Will Drown Us All, il sera disponible le 18 juillet prochain via Time To Kill Records. Douze titres pour un album qui promet une avalanche de riffs!

D’entrée le groupe frappe fort, c’est le cas de le dire avec « Bathe In the Ashes Of Heaven »! C’est simple le jeu de batterie de Josh Moore impressionne autant par son côté chirurgical que par cette vitesse et ses blasts à vous décoller les cervicales. Le duo qu’il forme avec Alex Schmidt à la basse, lui aussi absolument impérial, nous en met plein la vue sur la plage titulaire! On a déjà une belle vision de ce que le groupe veux nous proposer sur ce nouveau disque : un death métal surpuissant et punitif à souhait, bref tout ce qu’on aime! Evidemment côté riffs ciselés et assénés à une vitesse folle, on est clairement servis! Isaac Marier et Seth Earl ne laissent rien au hasard et donnent tout pour nous en mettre plein la vue sur des titres comme « Within The Vault ». Mais comment parler de cette sortie sans parler de la puissance vocale de Clint A. Franklin au chant! C’est simple il nous emporte vers les tréfonds d’un monde sombre et peu accueillant avec une aisance insolente. « Urn Of Verglas » ou encore « An Unnatural Lust » lui laissent tout le loisir de nous montrer sa palette vocale, entre cris habités et parties de pigs squeal à se damner.
L’album long ne se perd jamais et nous livre un death metal toujours percutant qui n’hésite pas à aller piocher dans les dérivés du genre comme le brutal death avec brio. « Insidious Riot » est encore un titre marquant du groupe du Michigan, qui visiblement ne compte pas nous laisser une seconde de répit! « Putrid Aberration of Malevolent Divinity » est encore une belle démonstration du talent combiné de chacun des membres de la formation américaine, avec toujours au premier plan cette envie non dissimulé de nous retourner le cerveau. Pour clôturer cette nouvelle sortie, le groupe nous propose « Scourge of Prometheus » où l’on voit apparaître Enrico H. Di Lorenzo du groupe italien Hideous Divinity au chant pour un duo vocal des plus enthousiasmants. Les univers se rejoignent parfaitement et font de ce titre de clôture un incontournable qui nous donne envie de relancer cet album au plus vite!
Avec Sorrow Will Drown Us All, Recorruptor nous proposent un album des plus réussis qui trouvera aisément sa place dans le coeur des amateurs du genre. Mais les plus curieux y trouveront aussi une sortie enthousiasmante, bourrée de riffs et de rythmiques imparables! Un bel album qui cimente définitivement la formation américaine dans la liste des groupes qu’on a hâte de pouvoir découvrir en live de ce côté-ci de l’Atlantique!

After two albums in 2017 and 2020 put them firmly on the map of death metal bands to watch, American band Recorruptor present their third studio album in mid-July, the fruit of two years’ work in the studio. Entitled Sorrow Will Drown Us All, it will be available on 18 July via Time To Kill Records. Twelve tracks for an album that promises an avalanche of riffs!
From the outset, the band hit hard with ‘Bathe In the Ashes Of Heaven’! Josh Moore‘s surgical drumming is as impressive as his speed and neck-breaking blasts. The duet he forms with Alex Schmidt on bass, also absolutely imperial, is a sight to behold on the title track! We’ve already got a good idea of what the band want to offer us on this new album: overpowering, punishing death metal, in short, everything we love! Of course, when it comes to chiselling riffs delivered at breakneck speed, we’re clearly in for a treat! Isaac Marier and Seth Earl leave nothing to chance and go all out to blow us away on tracks like “Within The Vault”. But how can we talk about this release without mentioning the vocal power of Clint A. Franklin on vocals! It’s simple, he takes us into the depths of a dark and unwelcoming world with insolent ease. ‘Urn Of Verglas’ and ‘An Unnatural Lust’ give him plenty of time to show off his vocal range, with a mix of inhabited screams and killer pigskin parts.
The full-length album never loses its way, delivering death metal that’s still hard-hitting and doesn’t hesitate to dip into derivatives of the genre such as brutal death with brio. ‘Insidious Riot’ is another stand-out track from the Michigan band, who clearly don’t intend to give us a second’s rest! ‘Putrid Aberration of Malevolent Divinity’ is yet another fine demonstration of the combined talent of each member of the American band, with the undisguised desire to turn our brains inside out always at the forefront. To round off this new release, the band offer us “Scourge of Prometheus”, featuring Enrico H. Di Lorenzo of Italian band Hideous Divinity on vocals for a most exciting vocal duet. The two worlds come together perfectly, making this closing track a must-have that makes you want to re-release this album as soon as possible!
With Sorrow Will Drown Us All, Recorruptor offer us a highly successful album that will easily find its way into the hearts of fans of the genre. But the more curious will also find it an exciting release, packed with unstoppable riffs and rhythms! A fine album that definitely cements the American band’s place on the list of bands we can’t wait to see live on this side of the Atlantic!
