Le musicien américain King Yosef aka Tayves Yosef Pelletier, également connu comme producteur dans le monde du hip hop, nous propose de découvrir son nouveau disque. Intitulé Spire Of Fear, il sera disponible le 15 août prochain via Bleakhouse. Entièrement écrit par l’auteur-compositeur, cet album vient nous emporter avec 11 titres de hardcore indus ciselé prêt à tout retourner sur son passage.

D’entrée sur « Feoil », la voix de King Yosef nous cueille pour ne plus nous lâcher avec les machines déjà omniprésentes dans le son proposé. Les guitares viennent s’ajouter avant un passage plus calme qui joue comme une transition avant l’énorme single « Molting Fear ». Ce titre nous avait immédiatement conquis lors de sa sortie et l’entendre dans le contexte de l’album apporte une toute nouvelle lecture à cette composition qui nous offre une belle vision du talent de l’américain. Sur « Glimmer », on retrouve le groupe Holy Fawn en featuring avec cette voix douce qui contraste avec la puissance du titre précédent. Mais la lourdeur de l’ambiance et du son n’est pas absente loin de là puisque des lignes de chant hurlé arrivent sur des percussions surpuissantes et des machines à vous retourner le cerveau. L’évolution sonore nous fait penser à ce que HEALTH peuvent proposer, ce qui n’est pas étonnant quand on sait que le groupe a déjà tournée en compagnie de King Yosef. Le titre suivant confirme avec un son massif à souhait et un break absolument dantesque qui vient vous en mettre plein la vue!
Le son de l’album, évidemment fruit du travail de Tayves Yosef Pelletier est magnifié par le mix de Kurt Ballou (guitariste de Converge) et Zach Weeks et par le mastering de Alan Douches, connu pour ses travaux avec The Dillinger Escape Plan ou Mastodon par exemple. Autant vous dire qu’un titre comme « Doomtown » confirme cet album comme un immanquable avant que « Wither » nous surprenne avec une double ambiance parfaitement gérée. Vient ensuite « Blue Morning » et son chant clair très doux qui se voit contrebalancé une fois de plus par un changement d’atmosphère une fois de plus, mais peut être un peu plus contenue que sur d’autres titres. « Walter » nous intrigue avec les instruments présents dans l’intro pendant que le morceau titre, très marqué par les machines nous emporte avec le retour du chant hurlé. Le titre « Everythings Point Of Origin » vient clôturer notre écoute avec une composition très dansante montrant une fois de plus l’étendue du talent de l’américain.
Avec Spire Of Fear, King Yossef offre une album où hardcore indus et de multiples influences bien plus larges cohabitent avec aisance. Les onze titres s’écoutent à l’envie et nous captivent tout en mettent nos cervicales à rude épreuve. La maîtrise sonore est totale avec un son massif de bout en bout qui laisse autant de place aux machines qu’aux guitares pour un ensemble des plus enthousiasmants. Un immanquable de l’été et un des tous meilleurs disques qu’on a pu entendre cette année, en tout cas un des plus surprenants!

American musician King Yosef, aka Tayves Yosef Pelletier, also known as a producer in the hip hop world, invites us to discover his new album. Entitled Spire Of Fear, it will be available on August 15th via Bleakhouse. Entirely written by the songwriter, this album takes us on a journey with 11 tracks of finely crafted industrial hardcore, ready to turn everything upside down in its wake.
From the outset, King Yosef‘s voice on ‘Feoil’ grabs us and doesn’t let go, with machines already omnipresent in the sound. Guitars are added before a calmer passage that acts as a transition before the huge single ‘Molting Fear’. This track immediately won us over when it was released, and hearing it in the context of the album brings a whole new perspective to this composition, which offers a beautiful glimpse of the American’s talent. On ‘Glimmer’, we find the band Holy Fawn featuring with a soft voice that contrasts with the power of the previous track. But the heaviness of the atmosphere and sound is far from absent, as screamed vocals arrive over powerful percussion and mind-bending machines. The sound evolution reminds us of what HEALTH can offer, which is not surprising when you consider that the band has already toured with King Yosef. The next track confirms this with a massive sound and an absolutely epic break that will blow you away!
The sound of the album, obviously the result of Tayves Yosef Pelletier‘s work, is enhanced by the mixing of Kurt Ballou (guitarist for Converge) and Zach Weeks and by the mastering of Alan Douches, known for his work with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Mastodon, for example. Suffice to say that a track like ‘Doomtown’ confirms this album as a must-have, before “Wither” surprises us with a perfectly managed double atmosphere. Next comes ‘Blue Morning’ with its very soft clean vocals, which are once again counterbalanced by a change in atmosphere, but perhaps a little more restrained than on other tracks. ‘Walter’ intrigues us with the instruments in the intro, while the title track, heavily influenced by machines, carries us away with the return of screaming vocals. The track ‘Everything’s Point Of Origin’ closes our listening experience with a very danceable composition, once again demonstrating the extent of the American’s talent.
With Spire Of Fear, King Yossef offers an album where industrial hardcore and a wide range of influences coexist with ease. The eleven tracks are a joy to listen to, captivating us while putting our necks to the test. The sound is masterfully crafted, with a massive sound from start to finish that gives equal space to machines and guitars for a truly thrilling whole. A must-have for the summer and one of the best albums we’ve heard this year, and certainly one of the most surprising!
