Nous attendions leur retour depuis 2021, et c’est signé chez Pure Noise Records que le quatuor Slow Crush revient plus fort que jamais avec Thirst, leur nouvel album ce 29 août. Avec la volonté de faire vivre la musique en 4D où la musique vous enveloppe, le shoegaze des belges fait parti des immanquables pour finir l’été en douceur, sous le signe du romantisme.

Qui aurait cru que l’été 2025 mettrait le shoegaze en tête de nos écoutes quotidiennes ? A peine quelques jours depuis le retour de Deftones, et voilà que Slow Crush mettent leur pierre à l’édifice avec 10 titres inédits. Il ne manquerait plus qu’un album de My Bloody Valentine pour dire que la boucle est bouclée (Pour les plus motivé.es, ils sont en tournée en Irlande en novembre prochain). Alors, ça shoegaze comment ce nouvel album de Slow Crush ?
Pour ce nouvel album, on y parle amour, romantisme, mais surtout ce sentiment qui nous envahit lorsqu’on est prêt d’un être cher. Ce sentiment qui vous prends aux tripes et qui vous fait vous sentir vivant. C’est exactement ce que le titre éponyme et titre d’ouverture de cet album nous balance avec le jeu de basse d’Isa Holliday qui est assez spectaculaire. Ce morceau nous procure totalement cette soif (thirst) de connaitre la suite, qui démarre avec une guitare électrique pas encore branché à l’ampli, comme si nous allions trop vite dans l’écoute. Mais une fois la machine lancé, c’est dans un rock hyper prenant que « Covet » nous enveloppe. Un saxophone fait même son apparition dans un son vaporeux. Toute la beauté de leur musique vient se retrouver dans « Cherry », qui est clairement une référence musicale à Deftones, où les guitaristes Jelle Ronsmans et Nic Placlé donnent cœurs et âmes dans ce mélange sonnant parfois post punk sur les bords. Et pourtant, Frederik Meeuwis à la batterie débarque avec une section au bord de l’asphyxie, où les émotions viennent nous submerger sans crier gare.
Avec « Hollow », on prends le temps de se reconnecter à la nature. Posez vous dans un parc, regardez la lumière se déposer sur les fleurs, refléter dans l’eau du lac et écouter la nature s’exprimer. Ce morceau sonne à la perfection ce que la groupe essaye de faire : « Nous voulons que les gens se laissent aller et se sentent enveloppés par la musique, afin qu’ils puissent la vivre en 4D ». Nous ne pouvons leur dire que bravo ! Et même dans ce sentiment si doux, ce sont bien des cris qui font leur apparition en fin de morceau, cris qu’on retrouvera également sur le titre de clôture de cet album, « Hlytt ». Avec « While You Dream Vividly », le piano vous cueille avec douceur, avant de laisser le superbe « Ogilt », 100% instrumental faire de cet album la bande son d’une nostalgie qui règne au fond de notre âme.
Slow Crush réussissent avec ce nouvel album à marquer au fer rouge leur place dans la scène shoegaze et on ne peut qu’être admiratif de leur talent. Chaque morceau est une merveille, fabriquant un album plein de volupté mais surtout donnant une vraie définition au mot éthérée.
Slow Crush seront de passage à l’Ancienne Belgique le 31 octobre prochain, en compagnie d’Oversize, ainsi qu’à Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon et Toulouse en compagnie de Fall of Messiah durant la première quinzaine de Novembre.

We’ve been waiting for their return since 2021, and now, signed to Pure Noise Records, the Slow Crush quartet are back stronger than ever with Thirst, their new album this august 29th. With their desire to bring music to life in 4D, where the music envelops you, the Belgians’ shoegaze is a must-have for a gentle, romantic end to the summer.
Who would have thought that the summer of 2025 would bring shoegaze to the top of our daily listening lists? Just a few days since the return of Deftones, and now Slow Crush have added their own contribution with 10 previously unreleased tracks. All that’s missing now is a My Bloody Valentine album, and we’ve come full circle (for the more motivated, they’re on tour in Ireland this November). So, how shoegaze is this new Slow Crush album?
This new album is all about love and romance, but above all, it’s about that feeling you get when you’re close to someone you love. That feeling that grabs you by the gut and makes you feel alive. That’s exactly what the album’s eponymous opening track does, with Isa Holliday‘s spectacular bass playing. It starts off with an electric guitar not yet plugged into the amp, as if we were listening too fast. But once the machine is up and running, “Covet” envelops us in a highly addictive rock sound. A saxophone even makes an appearance in a steamy sound. All the beauty of their music is to be found in “Cherry”, which is clearly a musical reference to Deftones, where guitarists Jelle Ronsmans and Nic Placlé give their hearts and souls to this mix that sometimes sounds post-punk around the edges. And yet, Frederik Meeuwis on drums arrives with a section on the verge of asphyxiation, where emotions come flooding in without warning.
With “Hollow”, we take the time to reconnect with nature. Sit in a park, watch the light fall on the flowers, reflect in the lake water and listen to nature express itself. This track perfectly captures what the band is trying to do: “We want people to let themselves go and feel enveloped by the music, so that they can experience it in 4D”. All we can say is bravo! And even in the midst of this gentle feeling, it’s the screaming that makes its appearance at the end of the track, a scream that will also be heard on the album’s closing track, “Hlytt”. With “While You Dream Vividly”, the piano gently cradles you, before the superb “Ogilt”, 100% instrumental, makes this album the soundtrack to a nostalgia that reigns deep in our soul.
With this new album, Slow Crush have successfully carved out their place in the shoegaze scene, and we can’t help but admire their talent. Each track is a marvel, making for an album full of voluptuousness, but above all giving a true definition to the word ethereal.
Slow Crush will be playing at Ancienne Belgique on October 31st, accompanied by Oversize, and in Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon and Toulouse with Fall of Messiah during the first half of November.
