Après un retour en fanfare en 2023 avec l’album Stormbringers et un nouveau line up en 2023, le groupe Before The Dawn signe sur un nouveau label et nous propose en cette rentrée de découvrir un tout nouveau disque. Intitulé Cold Flare Eternal, il sera disponible le 5 septembre prochain via Reaper Entertainment. Direction la Finlande donc pour une avalanche death mélo.

Dès l’intro « Initium » puis le single « Fatal Design » on sent que les finlandais ont clairement retrouvé ce feu qui brûle en eux depuis de nombreuses années. La guitare de Juho Räihä résonne fort avec des riffs percutants et mélodiques à souhait qui nous donnent instantanément envie d’headbanger dans notre salon, et des soli virtuoses. Les titres donnent à Paavo Laapotti de nous montrer l’étendue de ses capacités vocales avec un scream dévastateur et des refrains souvent chantés en clair qui restent en tête instantanément comme sur « Flame Eternal » par exemple. Tout au long du disque Tuomas Saukkonen à la batterie et Pyry Hanskià la basse nous emportent avec une section rythmique toujours taillée pour nous en mettre plein la vue. En quelques titres on sait qu’on a devant nous un groupe prêt à tout retourner sur scène avec ses morceaux. « Mercury Blood » ou « Stronghold » montrent une identité sonore forte du groupe finlandais, qui tout en restant dans les codes du genre apporte sa patte et une envie de nous émouvoir avec de belles envolées mélodiques couplées à des blasts à vous casser la nuque! Le plaisir d’écoute est total et on ne voit pas le temps passer tant les morceaux viennent rejoindre ce qui se fait de mieux dans le death mélo. Energique et émouvant à la fois cet album vient nous rappeler que le groupe est un immanquable de la scène finlandaise, et un titre comme « Destination » le confirme aisément. Le scream de Paavo est versatile à souhait et cela se ressent en particulier dans un titre comme l’excellent « Stronghold » mentionné plus haut. Le line up nous offre une fois de plus son tout meilleur dans « Shock Wave », morceau qui porte bien son nom, avant de terminer en beauté avec « Ad Infinitum » et sa mélodie envoutante qui nous emporte une dernière fois.
Avec Cold Flare Eternal, Before The Dawn s’inscrivent dans la continuité de Strombringers avec toujours de belles trouvailles sonores pour nous captiver. L’album regorge de tubes en puissance qui viendront satisfaire les fans de death mélo mais aussi les amateurs de mélodies imparables et de métal taillé pour la scène. Une belle sortie de la rentrée qu’on vous encourage à aller écouter dès sa sortie.
Le groupe sera de passage à Paris le 29 septembre prochain avec Wolfheart, Suotana et Full House Brew Crew au Backstage By The Mill et en tournée européenne du 20 septembre au 13 octobre.

After a triumphant return in 2023 with the album Stormbringers and a new line-up in 2023, the band Before The Dawn has signed with a new label and is offering us the chance to discover a brand new album this autumn. Entitled Cold Flare Eternal, it will be available on 5 September via Reaper Entertainment. So let’s head to Finland for an avalanche of melodic death metal.
From the intro ‘Initium’ and then the single ‘Fatal Design’, you can feel that the Finns have clearly rediscovered the fire that has been burning within them for many years. Juho Räihä‘s guitar resonates loudly with powerful and melodic riffs that instantly make us want to headbang in our living rooms, and virtuoso solos. The tracks allow Paavo Laapotti to show off the full range of his vocal abilities with devastating screams and choruses often sung in clear voice that instantly stick in your head, as on ‘Flame Eternal’, for example. Throughout the album, Tuomas Saukkonen on drums and Pyry Hanski on bass carry us along with a rhythm section that is always ready to blow us away. After just a few tracks, it’s clear that this is a band ready to tear up the stage with their songs. ‘Mercury Blood’ and ‘Stronghold’ showcase the Finnish band’s strong sound identity, which, while remaining true to the genre, brings its own touch and a desire to move us with beautiful melodic flights coupled with neck-breaking blasts! Listening to this album is a total pleasure, and time flies by as the tracks join the ranks of the best in melodic death metal. Energetic and moving at the same time, this album reminds us that the band is a must-see on the Finnish scene, and a track like ‘Destination’ easily confirms this. Paavo‘s scream is as versatile as can be, and this is particularly evident in a track like the excellent ‘Stronghold’ mentioned above. The line-up once again gives us their very best in ‘Shock Wave’, a track that lives up to its name, before ending on a high note with ‘Ad Infinitum’ and its captivating melody that carries us away one last time.
With Cold Flare Eternal, Before The Dawn continues in the vein of Strombringers, with more beautiful sound discoveries to captivate us. The album is full of potential hits that will satisfy fans of melodic death metal as well as lovers of unstoppable melodies and metal tailored for the stage. A great release for the autumn, which we encourage you to listen to as soon as it comes out.
