Sept mois après Antibloom, voilà le temps de découvrir la seconde partie du diptyque proposé cette année par les canadiens de Silverstein. Intitulé Pink Moon, il sera disponible dès le 12 septembre via UNFD. Huit nouveaux titres qui viennent compléter les huit présents dans la précédente sortie et qu’on a hâte de découvrir. Ce nouveau disque vient clôturer une année de folie pour le groupe, avec deux disques donc mais aussi une tournée anniversaire mondiale qui nous avait enchanté lors de son arrêt à Paris!

Le premier morceau court nous plonge doucement dans ce que cette nouvelle sortie vient nous proposer avec la voix reconnaissable entre mille de Shane Told. Puis « Negative Space » vient nous emporter avec des sonorités dont le groupe a le secret depuis de nombreuses années, et un refrain qui se retient dès la première écoute et qu’on a envie de chanter en concert! Sur « Drain The Blood », le groupe invite Rory Rodriguez de Dayseeker à mêler sa voix à celle de Shane, et force est de constater que cela fonctionne à merveille. Le titre garde la pate post hardcore du groupe en allant y ajouter le chant si unique de Rory pour une fin inattendue et très réussie. Comme sur Antibloom, Silverstein n’hésitent pas à aller chercher de nouvelles idées musicales tout en gardant cette identité forte qui sent bon les années 2000/2010! Pas de nostalgie ici, mais une envie de rappeler que moderniser le son n’est pas une fin en soi et qu’il est bon de ne pas suivre forcément la voie que beaucoup d’autres groupes du genre semblent suivre. « The Fatalist » et « Widowmaker » sont clairement deux titres qui viennent s’ajouter à la longue liste d’immanquables de la formation canadienne, avec des riffs imparables servis par Paul Marc Rousseau et Josh Bradford. Le morceau suivant, « Autopilot », voit Cassadee Pope venir poser sa voix sur un titre, là encore efficace à souhait et qui vous reste en tête dès la première écoute. Silverstein se sont ouvert aux featurings il y a quelques années et visiblement ont pris goût à l’exercice! Chaque nouvelle invitation donne une nouvelle couleur à la musique des canadiens tout en incluant l’artiste invité dans ce qui fait de Silverstein un des groupes phares de notre vie. « Death Hold » laisse à Paul Koehler une occasion supplémentaire de matraquer ses fûts pendant que le dernier titre, « Dying Game », fait résonner la basse de Billy Hamilton toujours plus fort dans nos oreilles pour notre plus grand plaisir.
Encore une fois Silverstein frappent fort avec Pink Moon, et nous laisse des titres qu’on a envie de se repasser en boucle dès la première écoute. Deuxième partie du diptyque, ce disque complète parfaitement la première tout en ayant sa propre couleur sonore. L’ensemble des deux sorties nous offre ce que les canadiens font de mieux et on ne peut que vous encourager à vous passer Antibloom et Pink Moon à la suite tant les deux sorties forment un des projets les plus enthousiasmant du combo canadien.

Seven months after Antibloom, it’s time to discover the second part of this year’s diptych from Canadian band Silverstein. Entitled Pink Moon, it will be available on September 12th via UNFD. Eight new tracks complete the eight featured on the previous release, and we can’t wait to hear them. This new album rounds off a crazy year for the band, with not only two albums but also a world anniversary tour that delighted us when it stopped off in Paris!
The first short track gently immerses us in what this new release has to offer, with Shane Told‘s instantly recognisable voice. Then ‘Negative Space’ sweeps us away with the sounds that the band has perfected over many years, and a chorus that sticks in your head from the first listen and makes you want to sing along at a concert! On ‘Drain The Blood’, the band invites Rory Rodriguez from Dayseeker to blend his voice with Shane‘s, and it’s clear that it works wonderfully. The track retains the band’s post-hardcore flavour, adding Rory‘s unique vocals for an unexpected and very successful ending. As on Antibloom, Silverstein doesn’t hesitate to seek out new musical ideas while maintaining a strong identity that smacks of the 2000s and 2010s! There’s no nostalgia here, but rather a desire to remind us that modernising your sound is not an end in itself and that it’s good not to necessarily follow the path that many other bands of the genre seem to be following. ‘The Fatalist’ and “Widowmaker” are clearly two tracks that add to the Canadian band’s long list of must-hears, with unstoppable riffs served up by Paul Marc Rousseau and Josh Bradford. The next track, ‘Autopilot’, features Cassadee Pope lending her voice to a song that is, once again, perfectly effective and sticks in your head from the first listen. Silverstein opened up to featuring other artists a few years ago and have clearly developed a taste for it! Each new invitation brings a new colour to the Canadians’ music, while including the guest artist in what makes Silverstein one of the leading bands of our lives. ‘Death Hold’ gives Paul Koehler another opportunity to hammer away at his drums, while the last track, ‘Dying Game’, makes Billy Hamilton‘s bass resonate ever louder in our ears, much to our delight.
Once again, Silverstein hits hard with Pink Moon, leaving us with tracks that we want to play on repeat from the very first listen. The second part of the diptych, this record perfectly complements the first while having its own unique sound. Together, these two releases offer us the best of what the Canadians have to offer, and we can only encourage you to listen to Antibloom and Pink Moon back-to-back, as the two releases form one of the Canadian combo’s most exciting projects.
