En ce jeudi soir du 9 septembre, entre averses et rayons de soleil, nous nous sommes rendus à La Bulle Café pour une soirée entre pop et rap concoctée par À Gauche de la Lune. ADVM, rappeur angevin, a posé ses textes avec tranquillité et émotion, où la rage et l’urgence semblaient transpercer et surtout convaincre le public. En première partie, c’est Surprise qui a ouvert la soirée pour sa première à Lille, avec un style unique qui en fait une belle découverte.

L’ouverture de la soirée s’est faite avec Surprise un peu après 20h30, alors que la salle continuait de se remplir. Les lumières se sont tamisées, prenant des tons rose et violet, tandis que Surprise entrait sur scène. Ce fut l’occasion pour elle d’embarquer tout le monde dans son univers, un mélange de rap et de chanson avec une voix délicate sur des productions sobres qui la mettaient bien en valeur. Ayant sorti son EP SI Y’A UN MONDE en mai dernier, elle a interprété plusieurs morceaux, dont « CAUCHEMAR », où elle a sollicité la participation du public sur le refrain, ce qui a plutôt bien fonctionné, ainsi que « DISTANT » et « RIEN DE NOUVEAU ». Elle a aussi interprété quelques titres de projets plus anciens avant de sortir du « mood » assez triste pour aller vers des « sons plus ensoleillés ». Elle a terminé son set avec « FRENCHTOUCH », en notant l’absence de Mandyspietout en demandant des applaudissements pour lui. C’est l’un de ses derniers singles avant la sortie de l’EP, et sans doute le morceau le plus dynamique et le plus connu de son set. On était heureux de finir sur une note pareille, mais ce dernier titre a surtout laissé l’impression que nous n’avions pas totalement découvert qui pouvait être Surprise, et qu’elle en garderait encore en réserve.
Après un court entracte, Tissma est venu prendre place derrière les platines pour mixer quelques sons, préparant l’arrivée d’ADVM. La Bulle était bien remplie et on sentait l’excitation du public à l’approche de l’arrivée du jeune rappeur. Lorsque l’intro de la chanson « CHÂTEAU DANS LE CIEL » a retenti, la foule s’est resserrée vers l’avant, tandis qu’ADVM a fait son apparition, encapuchonné et plein d’énergie. Si le premier titre a montré sa maîtrise du texte, aussi bien sur des couplets rappés à vitesse variable que sur des refrains plus chantés, le second a prouvé qu’ADVM ne s’en tenait pas qu’au hip-hop, n’hésitant pas à inclure un son plus dansant et mélodique, bien qu’il y ait plus d’autotune. « RODEO », le dernier single de l’artiste, a fait danser et chanter la foule sans hésitation, à laquelle il a tendu le micro par moments.
Cependant, ADVM ne s’est pas limité à ses projets récents et a demandé s’il y avait des « anciens » dans le public avant d’interpréter « .bcp d’appelés pour peu d’élus. » tiré de son album moins de bruit que ses démons sorti en 2023. Que ce soient des titres récents ou plus anciens, la foule semblait connaître toutes les paroles et n’hésitait pas à se faire entendre. Ce printemps, ADVM a sorti une version extended de son dernier projet ETEINT LE SOLEIL. Il en a profité pour dire quelques mots avant de lancer le titre « .CETTE GO. » qui parle de relations. Les rythmes et les ambiances se sont alternés, à la demande du premier pogo sur « .PUSHA T. », un léger échec qui fut vite oublié. Des morceaux plus calmes ont fait redescendre l’énergie tout en gardant leur force. Ce fut le cas du morceau « ACOUPHÈNES » qu’il a interprété pour la première fois en live. ADVM a présenté le morceau comme ayant une importance particulière pour lui, car il retrace son parcours, et a avoué être un peu nerveux de le jouer ce soir-là.
Après quelques mots, il a enchaîné avec « .PK TU PLEURES. », le titre qui l’a fait connaître. Encore une fois, la foule n’a pas manqué de joindre ses forces à la sienne. Le morceau « .TU DATES. » étant une collaboration avec le rappeur lillois Jaymee, ce fut l’occasion parfaite pour le faire monter sur scène. Plus tard, c’est Surprise qui a rejoint ADVMpour leur morceau « .AUTARCIE. ». Dans les deux cas, les collaborations ont fait le plus grand plaisir de la foule et des artistes, avec des sourires aux lèvres et des accolades échangées. Le tout a parfaitement bien fonctionné. « BULLE », par son nom, a très bien trouvé sa place dans la Bulle Café, et la fin est déjà arrivée avec « DEMAIN L’APOCALYPSE. ». Petite surprise pour clore la soirée, ADVM a demandé à la foule si elle souhaitait refaire un morceau : « .PUSHA T. » a donc été relancé pour une fin en pogo et en apothéose, avant une conclusion sur un appel à la manifestation du 18 septembre et des ACAB criés à travers la salle.
Cette soirée à La Bulle Café fut un parfait équilibre entre la douceur et la puissance. La découverte de Surprise a été une agréable surprise, son style délicat et sa présence scénique prometteuse laissant un goût de reviens-y. Quant à ADVM, il a su créer une véritable connexion avec son public, oscillant entre des moments d’intimité et une énergie débordante qui a su enflammer la salle. Une soirée réussie, preuve que la scène rap et pop française a encore de belles pépites à offrir.

On Thursday evening, between showers and rays of sunshine, we headed to La Bulle Café for an evening of pop and rap organised by À Gauche de la Lune. ADVM, a rapper from Angers, delivered his lyrics with calm and emotion, where rage and urgency seemed to pierce through and, above all, convince the audience. Surprise opened the evening for her debut in Lille, with a unique style that makes her a wonderful discovery.

The evening kicked off with Surprise shortly after 8:30 p.m., as the venue continued to fill up. The lights dimmed, turning pink and purple, as Surprise took to the stage. She took the opportunity to draw everyone into her world, a mix of rap and song with a delicate voice over understated productions that showcased her talent. Having released her EP SI Y’A UN MONDE last May, she performed several tracks, including ‘CAUCHEMAR’, where she asked the audience to join in on the chorus, which worked rather well, as well as “DISTANT” and ‘RIEN DE NOUVEAU’. She also performed a few tracks from older projects before moving away from the rather sad mood towards ‘sunny sounds’. She ended her set with ‘FRENCHTOUCH’, noting Mandyspie‘s absence and asking for applause for him. This is one of her latest singles before the release of the EP, and undoubtedly the most dynamic and well-known track in her set. We were happy to end on such a note, but this last track left us with the impression that we hadn’t fully discovered who Surprise could be, and that she still had more in store for us.
After a short intermission, Tissma took his place behind the turntables to mix a few tracks, preparing for ADVM‘s arrival. La Bulle was packed, and the audience’s excitement was palpable as the young rapper’s arrival drew near. When the intro to the song ‘CHÂTEAU DANS LE CIEL’ rang out, the crowd pressed forward as ADVM made his appearance, hooded and full of energy. While the first track showcased his mastery of lyrics, both in verses rapped at varying speeds and in more sung choruses, the second proved that ADVM wasn’t sticking to hip-hop alone, not hesitating to include a more danceable and melodic sound, albeit with more autotune. ‘RODEO’, the artist’s latest single, had the crowd dancing and singing along without hesitation, to whom he handed the microphone at times.
However, ADVM did not limit himself to his recent projects and asked if there were any ‘old-timers’ in the audience before performing ‘.bcp d’appelés pour peu d’élus’ from his 2023 album Moins de bruit que ses démons. Whether it was recent or older tracks, the crowd seemed to know all the lyrics and didn’t hesitate to make themselves heard. This spring, ADVM released an extended version of his latest project, ETEINT LE SOLEIL. He took the opportunity to say a few words before launching into the track ‘.CETTE GO.’, which is about relationships. The rhythms and atmospheres alternated, with the first pogo requested on ‘.PUSHA T.’, a slight failure that was quickly forgotten. Calmer tracks brought the energy down while retaining their power. This was the case with the track ‘ACOUPHÈNES’, which he performed live for the first time. ADVM introduced the song as having special significance for him, as it traces his journey, and admitted to being a little nervous about playing it that night.
After a few words, he followed up with ‘.PK TU PLEURES.’, the track that made him famous. Once again, the crowd joined forces with him. The track ‘.TU DATES.’ is a collaboration with Lille-based rapper Jaymee, so it was the perfect opportunity to bring him on stage. Later, Surprise joined ADVM for their track ‘.AUTARCIE.’. In both cases, the collaborations delighted the crowd and the artists, with smiles on their faces and hugs exchanged. It all worked perfectly. ‘BULLE’ (Bubble), by its name, found its place in the Bulle Café, and the end had already arrived with ‘DEMAIN L’APOCALYPSE.’. As a little surprise to end the evening, ADVM asked the crowd if they wanted to do another song: ‘.PUSHA T.’ was therefore played again for a pogo-filled finale, before concluding with a call for the September 18th demonstration and chants of ‘ACAB’ throughout the venue.
This evening at La Bulle Café struck the perfect balance between gentleness and power. Discovering Surprise was a pleasant surprise, her delicate style and promising stage presence leaving us wanting more. As for ADVM, he was able to create a real connection with his audience, oscillating between moments of intimacy and boundless energy that set the room alight. A successful evening, proof that the French rap and pop scene still has some real gems to offer.
