Le week-end du 13 et 14 septembre dernier voyait la première édition de Pochette Surprise : un salon des arts graphiques, à Volume Ouvert, un espace de création artistique en tout genre au cœur de Lille Fives. A cette occasion, une trentaine d’artistes venus de toute la France et la Belgique nous ont fait découvrir leur univers. Samedi soir, deux groupes locaux ont fait durer la soirée sous le signe du punk rock avec Bare Teeth et Ipkiss.

En plein cœur de Fives, à quelques pas du métro Marbrerie, Volume Ouvert accueille depuis 2017 de nombreux artistes en tout genre pour faire vivre les arts, et devenir un espace de travail, de création et de rencontres. Ce week-end du 13 septembre, Super Surprise Editions, structure fondée par Florianosaure et Maxi Cat, deux artistes de la métropole Lilloise lançaient un salon des arts graphiques appelé Pochette Surprise. Le but : Mettre à l’honneur les arts graphiques sous toutes leurs formes avec des artistes de toute la France, et même de la Belgique. Sérigraphies, Illustrations, Céramiques, Collages, Peintures, t-shirts, planches de flash tattoo, et un nombre incalculable de stickers plus tard, nous ne savions plus où donner de la tête. C’est des dizaines de techniques créatives différentes que nous avons découvertes aux travers des discussions très intéressantes avec les artistes eux même. Chaque artiste avait son univers à part entier, de quoi ravir tous les styles. Des tables permettaient également aux plus petits (et aux plus grands aussi disons le!) de dessiner, colorier et laisser libre court à leur imagination. Arrivé 19h30, les artistes remballaient leurs stands, et c’est un tout autre genre d’art qui s’installait : La musique !
Une fois les balances faites et l’espace dégagé pour accueillir un maximum de public, c’est Ipkiss qui a lancé les hostilités. Le quatuor Lillois nous a proposé un bonne demi-heure de musique, entrecoupé d’extrait de films comme The Mask par exemple. Bière et croque monsieur à la main, les spectateurs se sont prêtés au jeu et se sont mis à danser avec joie et bonne humeur. Et c’est vrai que le punk-rock et le pop-punk sont réputés comme étant des genres musicaux qui sentent bon l’été, la fête et le skate board. Pas de grand discours politique ce soir, on est là pour s’amuser. Et même quand le guitariste prends le micro et vient nous crier dessus au milieu de la foule, l’ambiance joviale bat son plein. Comme lors de leur passage à la Brat Cave deux mois auparavant, tout le monde passe un très bon moment devant la formation Lilloise et on se réjouit de les voir jouer de plus en plus, notamment très prochainement avec Not Scientists à Béthune ! Un bon moment, pour un beau groupe prometteur.
Bare Teeth, bien connu de nos lignes déjà, ont ensuite pris la suite, démarrant en trombes avec un petit hommage à Ozzy. Le trio Lillois nous ont proposé un show en deux parties bien distinctes : celle du pop punk acidulé entre chanson de leur répertoire et reprise des Jackson Five, et celle du heavy metal bien énervé lançant même un mini circle pit. On a connu le groupe plus en forme et plus juste dans leur musique, mais qu’importe, tout le monde passe un superbe moment. Les blagues fusent, et on sent que le groupe joue devant des habitués et des copains ce soir, tant les interactions sont remplies de private joke. Parfait pour clôturer cette première journée de Pochette Surprise.
Cette première édition de Pochette Surprise fût un vrai régal, et une vraie réussite. On ne peut que féliciter toute les personnes qui ont travaillé à l’organisation et à la tenue de ce beau week-end, et remercier chaleureusement tous les artistes présents d’avoir si bien mis en valeur leur art, et nous avoir fait découvrir leur univers singuliers. The weekend of September 13th and 14th saw the first edition of Pochette Surprise: a graphic arts fair at Volume Ouvert, a space for all kinds of artistic creation in the heart of Lille Fives. On this occasion, around thirty artists from all over France and Belgium invited us to discover their world. On Saturday evening, two local bands kept the party going with punk rock performances by Bare Teeth and Ipkiss.

In the heart of Fives, a stone’s throw from the Marbrerie metro station, Volume Ouvert has been welcoming artists of all kinds since 2017 to bring the arts to life and become a space for work, creation and encounters. On the weekend of September 13th, Super Surprise Editions, an organisation founded by Florianosaure and Maxi Cat, two artists from the Lille metropolitan area, launched a graphic arts fair called Pochette Surprise. The aim was to showcase graphic arts in all their forms with artists from all over France and even Belgium. Screen prints, illustrations, ceramics, collages, paintings, T-shirts, flash tattoo sheets and countless stickers later, we didn’t know where to look first. We discovered dozens of different creative techniques through fascinating discussions with the artists themselves. Each artist had their own unique universe, with something to delight all styles. Tables were also set up so that children (and adults too, let’s be honest!) could draw, colour and give free rein to their imagination. At 7.30pm, the artists packed up their stands and a whole new kind of art took over: music!
Once the sound checks were done and the space cleared to accommodate as many people as possible, Ipkiss kicked things off. The quartet from Lille treated us to a good half hour of music, interspersed with clips from films such as The Mask. Beer and croque monsieur sandwiches in hand, the audience got into the spirit of things and started dancing with joy and good humour. And it’s true that punk rock and pop punk are known as musical genres that evoke summer, parties and skateboarding. No big political speeches tonight, we’re here to have fun. Even when the guitarist took the microphone and came to shout at us in the middle of the crowd, the cheerful atmosphere was in full swing. As during their visit to the Brat Cave two months earlier, everyone had a great time watching the Lille-based band and we look forward to seeing them play more and more, notably very soon with Not Scientists in Béthune! A great time for a promising band.
Bare Teeth, already well known to our readers, took over next, kicking off with a bang with a little tribute to Ozzy. The trio from Lille gave us a show in two distinct parts: the first was tart pop punk, with songs from their repertoire and a cover of the Jackson Five, and the second was angry heavy metal, even sparking a mini circle pit. We’ve seen the band in better form and more in tune with their music, but no matter, everyone had a great time. The jokes flew thick and fast, and you could tell that the band was playing in front of regulars and friends tonight, as the interactions were full of private jokes. This first edition of Pochette Surprise was a real treat and a real success.
