À l’occasion de la sortie de leur premier album Chimera, les Parisiens d’Ashen entreprennent leur première tournée en tête d’affiche à travers la France et la Belgique, avec un arrêt le jeudi 9 octobre à La Bulle Café, à Lille. Accompagnés des Belges de Ice Sealed Eyes en première partie, le concert s’annonce à la fois intense et touchant.

Avant même que le show ne commence, la fosse de La Bulle Café est déjà remplie de nombreux métalleux prêts à s’en prendre plein les tympans. Cerise sur le gâteau, Ashen ne se produira pas seul ce soir puisqu’à 20 h 30 tapantes, les Belges de Ice Sealed Eyes entrent en scène pour assurer la première partie. Après quelques minutes d’introduction, le chanteur Noé entend bien chauffer la salle dès les premiers instants, notamment grâce à “Needles” (Altar, 2024). Le quatuor n’est pas en reste : d’autres morceaux de newcore aux riffs bien lourds sont à venir, tels que “Bloom” ou encore “Torments”, mettant ainsi le feu à un public déjà bien bouillant. D’après les dires du vocaliste, les spectateurs lillois entrent directement en concurrence avec leurs homologues bruxellois. Peu importe, nous ne sommes pas au bout de nos surprises, comme en témoignent le joli wall of death sur “As We Collide” ou encore le circle pit sur l’intrépide “Inner Wings”. À l’inverse, Ice Sealed Eyes, c’est aussi des chansons plus douces et atmosphériques, à l’instar de la ballade “Satellite”, qui entraînera un véritable ciel étoilé parmi le public. Qu’on se le dise : les morceaux se sont enchaînés sans accroc dans ce set rondement mené, alternant brillamment entre chant clair et crié, et provoquant une avalanche de breakdowns. Qui plus est, le groupe a instantanément brisé la glace avec le public… Mission réussie !
Une chose est sûre : la pression n’est pas prête de redescendre, puisque c’est au tour du metalcore d’Ashen de faire exploser La Bulle Café ! Sous les vifs applaudissements du public, le quintet parisien ne perd pas de temps et démarre en trombe avec “Chimera”, titre éponyme de leur premier album publié un mois plus tôt et dont on vous a parlé ici. Inutile de préciser que dès les premières notes, la foule est en délire ! Il faut dire que Clem Richard et ses compagnons étaient attendus de pied ferme par un public remonté à bloc. Cela se confirme avec leur tube « Angel » (2023) et son refrain « ’Cause I’m always coming back » qui met tout le monde d’accord. Ce ne sera pas le seul “ancien” morceau, puisque les énergiques “Sapiens” (2021) et “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (reprise de Nirvana de 2023) seront également de la partie.
À l’instar de Ice Sealed Eyes, le groupe se montre très communicatif avec les métalleux, renforçant la connexion entre le quintet et les fans, ces derniers chantant à tue-tête les morceaux du combo. Outre les puissants riffs et breakdowns de “Crystal Tears”, “Desire” ou “Sacrifice”, Ashen offre aussi des moments plus intimistes avec “Altering”, et plus encore avec “Living in Reverse”. Ce morceau, dédié au public, est selon le groupe une touche d’espoir dans ces méandres de moments difficiles. Lors de cet instant émouvant, on sent Clem profondément touché. Dans une toute autre ambiance, La Bulle Café se transforme carrément en boîte de nuit sur “Oblivion”, porté par ses sonorités électro, tandis que le batteur Tristan Broggia part faire… du crowd-surfing ! Le rappel enfonce le clou avec “Cover Me Red” (Chimera, 2025) et “Outlier” (2021) déchaînant les derniers circle pits et walls of death de la soirée.
Que ce soit Ice Sealed Eyes ou Ashen, les deux formations ont alterné habilement moments intimistes, calmes et mélancoliques, et instants particulièrement intenses, entraînants et violents. Et que dire de l’ambiance dans la salle ? Chauffés à bloc dès le départ, les cous et les jambes des métalleux présents ont bien travaillé, déversant des mètres cubes de sueur et faisant littéralement imploser La Bulle !

To mark the release of their debut album Chimera, Parisian band Ashen are embarking on their first headline tour across France and Belgium, with a stop on Thursday October 9th at La Bulle Café in Lille. Accompanied by Belgian band Ice Sealed Eyes as the opening act, the concert promises to be both intense and moving.

Even before the show begins, the pit at La Bulle Café is already filled with metalheads ready to have their eardrums assaulted. The icing on the cake is that Ashen won’t be performing alone tonight, as at 8:30 pm sharp, Belgium’s Ice Sealed Eyes take to the stage to open the show. After a few minutes of introduction, singer Noé is determined to warm up the room from the very first moments, notably with ‘Needles’ (Altar, 2024). The quartet is not to be outdone: other newcore tracks with heavy riffs are to come, such as “Bloom” and ‘Torments’, setting fire to an already heated audience. According to the vocalist, the Lille audience was in direct competition with their Brussels counterparts. No matter, there were more surprises in store, as evidenced by the impressive wall of death during ‘As We Collide’ and the circle pit during the intrepid ‘Inner Wings’. On the other hand, Ice Sealed Eyes also has softer, more atmospheric songs, such as the ballad ‘Satellite’, which created a veritable starry sky among the audience. Let’s be clear: the songs flowed seamlessly in this well-executed set, brilliantly alternating between clean and screamed vocals and provoking an avalanche of breakdowns. What’s more, the band instantly broke the ice with the audience… Mission accomplished!
One thing is certain: the pressure is not about to ease up, as it’s now the turn of Ashen‘s metalcore to blow up La Bulle Café! To loud applause from the audience, the Parisian quintet wastes no time and kicks off with a bang with ‘Chimera’, the title track from their debut album released a month earlier, which we told you about here. Needless to say, from the very first notes, the crowd goes wild! It must be said that Clem Richard and his bandmates were eagerly awaited by a pumped-up audience. This is confirmed with their hit ‘Angel’ (2023) and its chorus ‘Cause I’m always coming back’, which gets everyone on the same page. This wasn’t the only ‘old’ song, as the energetic “Sapiens” (2021) and ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (a cover of Nirvana’s song) were also part of the set.
Like Ice Sealed Eyes, the band is very communicative with metalheads, strengthening the connection between the quintet and their fans, who sing along loudly to the band’s songs. In addition to the powerful riffs and breakdowns of ‘Crystal Tears’, ‘Desire’ and ‘Sacrifice’, Ashen also offers more intimate moments with “Altering” and, even more so, with ‘Living in Reverse’. This song, dedicated to the audience, is, according to the band, a touch of hope in these difficult times. During this moving moment, Clem is visibly deeply touched. In a completely different atmosphere, La Bulle Café is transformed into a nightclub for ‘Oblivion’, carried by its electro sounds, while drummer Tristan Broggia goes crowd surfing! The encore hammered home the point with ‘Cover Me Red’ (Chimera, 2025) and ‘Outlier’ (2021), unleashing the last circle pits and walls of death of the evening.
Whether it was Ice Sealed Eyes or Ashen, both bands skilfully alternated between intimate, calm and melancholic moments and particularly intense, lively and violent moments. And what can we say about the atmosphere in the venue? Fired up from the start, the metalheads in the audience worked their necks and legs hard, pouring out cubic metres of sweat and literally imploding La Bulle!
