Ce week-end dernier était fait pour être à Anvers si vous êtes fan de metalcore. Nous avons commencé le samedi 1er novembre au Trix. Le concert était complet depuis un certain temps, et c’est certainement parce que la programmation en valait la peine : Cane Hill, Saosin et Currents en première partie de nul autre que The Plot In You. Un mélange parfait entre lourdeur et mélodie, rage et tristesse, tout ce dont nous avions besoin pour commencer le mois de novembre.

Alors que la salle est encore à moitié vide, les lumières s’éteignent et le groupe entre en scène. Les premiers morceaux passent facilement, Cane Hill réveillant le public belge avec son son metalcore. Quand Elijah (le chanteur) demande à la foule qui a déjà entendu parler d’eux et pour qui c’est le premier concert de Cane Hill, le public est divisé en deux. Le groupe existe depuis 15 ans et a sorti son dernier album fin 2024 : A Piece of Me I Never Let You Find. Ce soir, c’est l’occasion pour eux de présenter quelques morceaux de cet album, la seule chanson qui n’en fait pas partie étant le titre d’ouverture, « Power of the High ». Après cela, il est difficile de ne pas bouger ou chanter en chœur sur des morceaux comme « Finding Euphoria », « Drowning Therapy » et « Fade ».
Comme il ne leur reste plus que deux chansons, Elijah invite tout le monde à venir à leur stand de merchandising pour discuter et passer un moment ensemble après le concert. Si la voix claire d’Elijah n’est pas toujours aussi juste qu’en studio, la puissance de leurs breakdowns est indéniable (même si le public reste un peu timide dans ses mouvements). Pour leur dernière chanson, Elijah demande quelques crowdsurfers et un peu d’animation dans la fosse avant de lancer « The Midnight Sun ».
Saosin n’est pas venu en Europe depuis 10 à 15 ans, et le chanteur le reconnaît volontiers. Dans la foule, on peut voir quelques fans chanter avec le groupe de toutes leurs forces. Cependant, on sent toujours que beaucoup de personnes dans la salle ne sont pas là pour eux. La salle est un peu plus remplie que pour Cane Hill. Avant de lancer leur morceau « Voices », le chanteur annonce que si nous avons déjà entendu parler du groupe, c’est probablement grâce à cette chanson.
Au milieu du concert, le guitariste prend un peu de temps pour parler et dit qu’ils devraient revenir bientôt après tant d’années d’absence en Europe, car ils travaillent sur un tout nouvel album qui devrait sortir l’année prochaine et dont le premier single est attendu pour le début de l’année. Il demande également s’il y a des fans de longue date dans la foule et certaines personnes se mettent à applaudir. Ils ont ensuite annoncé le premier titre de leur premier album, Saosin, sorti en 2006.
Pour terminer leur set, ils ont présenté la chanson « Seven Years », une ancienne chanson que nous connaissions pour la plupart. Avant le breakdown et la fin du morceau, le groupe a demandé un wall of death. Le public a ouvert la fosse en deux et, pendant le breakdown, les gens s’y sont timidement engouffrés pour finir en beauté.
À partir de là, on sent que la salle est pleine. Les gens sont plus présents et impatients pour la suite de la soirée. Alors que les lumières s’éteignent, on entend les gens commencer à crier pour accueillir Currents sur scène. Nous avons eu la chance de les voir cet été pendant la saison des festivals à Jera On Air, mais depuis, ils ont sorti un single, suivi de la sortie d’un EP surprise vendredi dernier : All that follows. C’est leur première sortie depuis leur album de 2023, The Death We Seek.
Comme toujours, le groupe déborde d’énergie, en particulier leur bassiste, qui va de gauche à droite, se retourne sur lui-même et saute partout. Dès le deuxième titre, le chanteur annonce l’un de leurs tout nouveaux morceaux : « Rise & fall ». Ensuite, « Remember Me »» nous frappe de plein fouet et il est impossible de rester immobile et de ne pas chanter en chœur. Le groupe n’a pas attendu longtemps avant de demander un circle pit.
Dès le début du troisième morceau, des crowdsurfers arrivaient déjà vers la scène. On a l’impression que d’un groupe à l’autre, l’intensité monte, et ce sentiment se maintient tout au long du set de Currents. Leurs mélodies, menées par le guitariste, passent de quelque chose de doux à des breakdowns lourds et attendus qui nous donnent des frissons. Ce qui est également toujours génial avec Currents, c’est de garder un œil sur les guitaristes, Chris Wiseman et Ryan Castaldi, qui tapotent les cordes de leurs guitares pour créer le son unique du groupe. Il n’y a pas beaucoup de communication avec le public, mais lorsqu’ils demandent à celui-ci de se diviser en deux, la foule obéit sans trop hésiter. La puissance de leur dernier single donne facilement des frissons lorsqu’il est joué en live. Alors que leur set se termine sur « Better Days », le groupe quitte une foule heureuse en disant « à bientôt » et nous espérons que ce sera effectivement le cas !
Lorsque l’obscurité revient, une atmosphère effrayante s’installe, comme dans un film d’horreur. Un téléviseur cathodique scintille de lumières rouges, tandis que de la fumée se répand autour de la batterie surélevée, que l’encens emplit l’air et qu’une voix inaudible se fait entendre à la radio. Après une longue minute, The Plot In You entre en scène, s’imposant dès les premiers instants et démarrant son set en fanfare avec son titre « Don’t Look Away ». Personne ne peut rester immobile ou silencieux. À l’exception de Landon Tewers, tous les membres du groupe se trouvent sur une plateforme surélevée, le chanteur occupant tout l’espace et se déplaçant d’un côté à l’autre dès le début.
Si le set est plein de puissance et vous prend aux tripes, certains morceaux comme « THE ONE YOU LOVE » ajoutent une touche plus mélodique. Landon Tewers prend tout de même le temps de présenter brièvement certaines de leurs chansons, même si la plupart sont déjà bien connues. Pour « Not Just Breathing », il demande au public s’il a suivi les EP qu’ils ont sortis, avant de dire que ce titre est l’un de ses préférés.
« Silence » est leur dernier single, sorti mi-septembre, qui pourrait annoncer un quatrième EP à venir. Landon commence le morceau assis sur le côté gauche de la scène avec une guitare acoustique sous une lampe, rendant la scène encore plus intime, comme si nous étions dans son salon (cependant, on ne voyait rien si l’on se tenait également à gauche…). avant de reprendre le micro au milieu de la scène pour donner toute l’énergie que le reste du morceau mérite. La puissance de « Silence » était déjà indéniable dans sa version studio, mais la version live vous prend vraiment aux tripes. Comme un tube en appelle un autre, The Plot In You enchaîne avec « Forgotten » pour faire monter l’énergie du public. La transition est un peu violente, mais on se laisse facilement emporter par ce morceau suivant en chantant en chœur. Lorsque les instruments s’arrêtent et que Landon crie le passage emblématique « J’ai passé ma vie à courir après des choses qui ne m’ont apporté que de la douleur, mais au final, quand je serai mort, j’espère que cela aura servi à quelque chose », cela nous donne vraiment des frissons, car tout le public crie chaque mot en chœur. Plus tard, il ouvre un circle pit à la fin de « Spare Me » pour faire bouger un peu plus les gens, avant d’introduire une « vieille chanson » avec « Time changes everything ». Pour terminer leur set avec d’autres tubes, The Plot In You choisit « Left Behind » puis « Feel Nothing », permettant au public de chanter à nouveau facilement ces morceaux que nous avons écoutés en boucle. La fin du concert ne prend pas beaucoup de temps, car dès le début, le groupe n’est pas très proche de son public.
De la puissance brute de Cane Hill au retour nostalgique de Saosin, en passant par le chaos émotionnel de Currents et l’énergie envoûtante de The Plot In You, la soirée s’est construite couche après couche d’intensité. Chaque groupe a laissé sa propre empreinte, des mélodies sincères aux breakdowns écrasants. À la fin de la soirée, l’air du Trix était chargé d’adrénaline et d’émotion, un mélange de nostalgie, de catharsis et de ce sentiment indéniable d’être vivant.

This past weekend was made to be in Antwerp if you are a metalcore fan. We started on Saturday November 1st at the Trix. The show has been sold out for quite some time, and this is definitely because the line-up is worth it: Cane Hill, Saosin and Currents opening for no other band than The Plot In You. A perfect mix between heaviness and melody, rage and sadness, everything we needed for the beginning of November.

While the venue is still half empty, the lights turn off and the band enters the stage. The first tracks go by easily, Cane Hill waking up the Belgian public with their metalcore sound. When Elijah (vocalist) asks the crowd who has already heard about them and for whom it’s their first Cane Hill show, the audience is split 50/50. The band has been around for 15 years, and they released their latest album at the end of 2024: A Piece of Me I Never Let You Find. Tonight is the occasion for them to present a few tracks from it, the only song not from this album being the opening title, “Power of the High”. After that, it’s hard not to move or sing along with tracks like “Finding Euphoria”, “Drowning Therapy” and “Fade”.
As they only have two songs left, Elijah invites everyone to come to their merch table to talk and hang out after the show. While Elijah’s clean vocals might not always sound as in tune as in the studio, the power of their breakdowns is undeniable (even though the audience remains a little shy in their movements). For their last song, Elijah asks for some crowdsurfers and movement in the pit before launching “The Midnight Sun”.
Saosin hasn’t been in Europe for 10 to 15 years, and the singer acknowledges it easily. In the crowd we can see some fans singing along with the band with all of their energy. However, we can still feel that many people in the venue aren’t here for them. The venue is a little bit more full than for Cane Hill. Before launching their track “Voices”, the singer announced that if we already heard about the band it is probably thanks to this song.
In the middle of the set the guitarist, takes a little bit of time to talk, and say that they should be back soon after so many years not coming to Europe as they are working on a brand new album that should be out by next year and we can expect the first single to arrive by the beginning of the year. He also asked if there were any old fans in the crowd and some people began cheering. Then they announced the first track of their first album, Saosin released in 2006.
To end their set, the song “Seven Years” is introduced as an old one and mostly the other one we might know. Before the breakdown and the end of the track, the band ask for a wall of death. The public opens the pit in two and while the breakdown hits people get shyly in it to finish in beauty.
From then, we can feel that the venue is full. People are more present and impatient for the rest of the evening. While the lights dimmed, we can hear people starting screaming to welcome Currents on stage. We had the chance to see them this summer during the festival season at Jera On Air, but since then they released a single, followed by the release of a surprise EP last Friday: All that follows. It is the first thing they released since their 2023’s album The Death We Seek.
As always the band is full of energy and mostly their bassist, who is going from left to right, turning on himself and jumping around. From the second title, the singer announces one of their brand new tracks: “Rise & fall”. After that « Remember Me » hits us and it is impossible to stay still and not sing along. The band did not wait too long before asking for a circle pit.
From the beginning of the third song, crowdsurfers were already arriving towards the stage. It feels like from one band to the next, the intensity is building, and this feeling does absolutely keep on during Currents set. Their melodies led by the guitarist go from something soft to heavy anticipated breakdowns that gives us chills. What is also always great with Currents is to keep an eye on the guitarists, Chris Wiseman and Ryan Castaldi, tapping the cords of their guitars to create the unique sound of the band. There isn’t that much communication with the public, but when they ask for the public to split in two the crowd obey with not too much hesitation. The power of their latest single gives easily shivers while being played live. While their set ends on “Better Days” the band leaves a happy crowd saying « we’ll see you soon » and we hope it will be the case indeed!
When the darkness is here again, a creepy atmosphere settles, looking like a horror movie. A cathodic television glitters with red lights, while smoke spreads around the elevated drums, incense fills the air and a voice through radio is coming in with inaudible speech. After a long minute, The Plot In You enters on their stage, claiming it from the first moments, launching their set with full blast thanks to their title “Don’t Look Away”. No one could stay still or stay silenced. Except Landon Tewers, all band members are on an elevated platform, the singer occupies the whole space moving from one side to the other from the beginning.
While the set is full of power and takes you to the guts, some tracks like “THE ONE YOU LOVE” add more of a melodic side. Landon Tewers still takes the time to briefly introduce some of their songs even though most are already well known. For “Not Just Breathing” he asks if the people have been following up with the EP volumes that they have been putting out, before saying that this title is one of his favorites.
“Silence” is their latest single, released mid-September it could be announcing a fourth EP coming. Landon starts the track sitting on the left side of the stage with an acoustic guitar under a lamp, making the scene even more intimate as if we were in its living room (however, you couldn’t see anything if you were standing on the left as well…). before taking the mic back to the middle of the stage to give the full energy the rest of the track deserves. The power of “Silence” was already undeniable with its studio version, however the live version really takes you to the guts. Like a banger calls another one, The Plot In You follows with “Forgotten” to heighten the crowd energy, the transition is a little bit violent but we easily fall into this next track singing along. When the instrument stops and Landon screams the iconic part “I have spent my life, chasing things, that have only brought me pain, in the end, when I’m dead, hope it was for something” it really gives shivers on our skin as the whole crowd is screaming every word along. Later, he opens a circle pit at the end of “Spare Me” to make people move a little more, before introducing an “old song” with “Time changes everything”. To end their set with other bangers, The Plot In You chose “Left Behind” and then “Feel Nothing”, allowing the public to, once again, sing along easily to these tracks we listened to repeatedly. The end of the show isn’t taking much time, as from the beginning the band isn’t that close to their public.
From Cane Hill’s raw firepower to Saosin’s nostalgic comeback, followed by Currents’ emotional chaos and The Plot In You’s haunting energy, the evening built layer after layer of intensity. Each band left its own mark, from heartfelt melodies to crushing breakdowns. By the end of the night, the air at the Trix felt thick with adrenaline and emotion, a mix of nostalgia, catharsis, and that unmistakable feeling of being alive.
