Comme on le dit si bien, toutes les bonnes choses ont une fin. Après ce weekend magnifique avec ces deux précédentes soirées ficelées à la perfection et qui nous ont envoyé sur Pluton, pour ce dimanche 2 novembre, The Dark Lab ne pouvait pas nous laisser repartir aussitôt dans nos chaumières. Et pour ça, un after de qualité nous avait été concocté aux petits oignons pour finir ces trois soirées de festival en beauté. Pour clôturer The Dark Lab 2025 dans toute sa splendeur, on a eu l’honneur d’assister au tout dernier concert du festival, donné par les sublimissimes Forever Grey, suivi du mix de Xwave Radio Show DJ Set, pour accompagner les noctambules les plus enjoués dans leurs derniers déhanchés.

Après un vendredi de folie et un samedi tout aussi épris, The Dark Lab avait décidé de calmer un peu le jeu en conviant un remarquable groupe histoire de bien terminer cette toute dernière soirée. Forever Grey étaient nos invités de ce dimanche, et ce n’était pas sans compter sur le public et ses derniers vétérans toujours debout, qui auront su tenir durant ces trois nuits éreintées mais tellement passionnées. Beaucoup moins nombreux mais toujours aussi impatients d’avoir la chance de voir ce tout dernier groupe sur scène pour terminer The Dark Lab à la perfection, nos goths s’étaient donné rendez-vous pour célébrer ensemble ce weekend mémorable et d’une rare intensité. Forever Grey est un trio Américain venu de Grand Rapids, Michigan, qui à vu le jour en novembre 2014, et qui possède déjà une petite dizaine d’années au compteur. Trio, mais duo en live, composé de Kevin Czarnik (vocaux, guitare) Anna Schmidt (vocaux et synthé, se produisant en live) et Samantha « Sam » Kubiak (membre fondateur de Forever Grey). Le groupe nous délivre un son d’un mysticisme invétéré, voguant en eaux troubles entre Minimal Wave, Dark Wave, Cold Wave, Post-punk et Rock gothique. Dans un esprit brumeux voire fantomatique, leur délicate étrangeté ainsi que leur envoûtante sensibilité ont de suite attiré le public de The Dark Lab, qui fut très rapidement séduit par cet atypique duo. Dans des sonorités typiquement aériennes et nébuleuses, toujours en sachant garder ce côté unique et insolite, Forever Grey flirte avec passion dans un univers mystérieux et ensorcelant. Dans une atmosphère captivante et presque inquiétante, Kevin Czarnik nous hypnotise grâce à sa voix grave enivrante, possédée de milles âmes n’arrivant pas à trouver la paix intérieure. Ses mélodies de guitare accompagnent délicatement les arrangements de synthé d’Anna Schmidt, pour mieux réussir à nous bercer dans une anomalie sonore exquise et savoureuse. Certaines parties de chant sont chantées par Kevin Czarnik, d’autres par Anna Schmidt, ou d’autres encore sont chantées ensemble pour intensifier cette atmosphère toute particulièrement recherchée et savamment réalisée, accentuant encore ce monde surnaturel, voir à la limite du paranormal que nous offre Forever Grey, et ce dans la plus grande volupté. Sans oublier leurs parties rythmiques plongées dans un électronique absorbant, voire fascinant. Avec quelques singles, Ep’s et quatre albums studio, dont le dernier en date Sympathy Garden (paru le 1er avril 2022), Forever Grey nous a fait le plaisir de clôturer The Dark Lab avec un live d’une petite heure, dans une mystérieuse froideur, flirtant avec une sentimentalité exacerbée, nous invitant à nous abandonner dans un univers qui nous fit oublier en l’espace d’un instant, que l’on avait toujours bel et bien les pieds sur terre.
Et pour terminer à merveille cette soirée de clotûre de The Dark Lab 2025, notre festival « noir », on à eu la chance de finir en beauté avec le show de Xwave Radio Show, pour un DJ Set d’enfer animé par Frédéric Strzelczyk, animateur phare de l’émission Xwave Radio sur Galaxie. Il nous à envoyé quelques sacrées perles de la scène Goth en tout genre, allant de la New Wave, du Post-punk, de la Dark wave, Cold wave, Batcave et autres, histoire de faire danser les tout derniers fêtards et mettre un point final, voir carrément un point d’honneur de ce weekend dantesque et haut en couleur.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After a magnificent weekend with two perfectly organised evenings that sent us to Pluto, The Dark Lab couldn’t let us go home straight away on Sunday 2 November. So, a high-quality after-party was carefully planned to bring the three festival evenings to a spectacular close. To close The Dark Lab 2025 in all its splendour, we had the honour of attending the very last concert of the festival, given by the sublime Forever Grey, followed by the Xwave Radio Show DJ Set mix, to accompany the most playful night owls in their final dance moves.

After a crazy Friday and an equally passionate Saturday, The Dark Lab decided to calm things down a bit by inviting a remarkable band to bring this final evening to a fitting close. Forever Grey were our guests on Sunday, and the audience and its last remaining veterans, who had stayed on their feet throughout three exhausting but incredibly passionate nights, were ready for them. Much fewer in number but still eager to see this last band on stage to bring The Dark Lab to a perfect close, our goths gathered to celebrate together this memorable and intensely rare weekend. Forevere Grey is an American trio from Grand Rapids, Michigan, which was formed in November 2014 and already has a decade or so under its belt. A trio, but a duo in live performances, composed of Kevin Czarnik (vocals, guitar), Anna Schmidt (vocals and synth, performing live) and Samantha ‘Sam’ Kubiak (founding member of Forever Grey). The band delivers a sound of inveterate mysticism, navigating the murky waters between minimal wave, dark wave, cold wave, post-punk and gothic rock. With a hazy, even ghostly spirit, their delicate strangeness and captivating sensitivity immediately attracted the audience at The Dark Lab, who were quickly seduced by this atypical duo. With typically ethereal and nebulous sounds, always managing to retain their unique and unusual side, Forever Grey passionately flirts with a mysterious and bewitching universe. In a captivating and almost disturbing atmosphere, Kevin Czarnik hypnotises us with his intoxicating deep voice, possessed by a thousand souls unable to find inner peace. His guitar melodies delicately accompany Anna Schmidt‘s synth arrangements, lulling us into an exquisite and delicious sonic anomaly. Some parts of the vocals are sung by Kevin Czarnik, others by Anna Schmidt, and still others are sung together to intensify this particularly sought-after and skilfully crafted atmosphere, further accentuating the supernatural, even paranormal world that Forever Grey offers us, and this with the greatest of pleasure. Not to mention their rhythmic parts, immersed in absorbing, even fascinating electronics. With a few singles, EPs and four studio albums, the latest of which is Sympathy Garden (released on April 1st 2022), Forever Grey gave us the pleasure of closing The Dark Lab with an hour-long live performance, in a mysterious coldness, flirting with heightened sentimentality, inviting us to abandon ourselves to a universe that made us forget for a moment that we still had our feet firmly on the ground.
And to round off this closing night of The Dark Lab 2025, our ‘dark’ festival, we were lucky enough to end on a high note with the Xwave Radio Show, for a hell of a DJ set hosted by Frédéric Strzelczyk, the star presenter of the Xwave Radio show on Galaxie. He treated us to some real gems from the Goth scene, ranging from New Wave, Post-punk, Dark Wave, Cold Wave, Batcave and more, getting the last partygoers up on their feet and bringing this incredible, colourful weekend to a close in style.
