Randy Bradbury, bassiste de Pennywise, a sorti le premier album de son nouveau projet : 84 Days. Et après avoir commencé à écrire, il s’est entouré de Cameron Webb, producteur ayant reçu un Grammy et ayant pris la basse pour l’occasion. Adrian Young, batteur de No Doubt a pris place derrière les fûts en studio, tandis que Warren Fitzgerald (Vandals) prêtait main forte à la guitare. Avec autant de noms prometteurs, on avait forcément envie de vous parler de cette sortie ! 84 Days est à paraître le 7 novembre via SBAM Records et Double Helix Records.

On s’en doutait avec un line up studio pareil, mais cela se confirme dès les premières notes : 84 Days est un opus hyper efficace. Le punk rock du groupe nous embarque rapidement. “Don’t Trust the Government est un tube total. On chante le refrain dès la première écoute et il reste en tête bien après. L’opus est hyper feel good, et plein de rythmiques entrainantes. Toutefois chaque titre a sa spécificité. Ainsi “Staying Alive” présente des petites influences hard rock au milieu du bon vieux punk rock.”Ticking Away” est lui proche du pop punk, avec ses mélodies et son refrain très efficace, qu’on a là aussi envie de chanter à tue-tête. “Don’t Look Down” présente une rythmique toujours entraînante, avec un mix qui rend hommage à la batterie. Mais on y ressent aussi quelque chose de plus nostalgique avec une pointe de mélancolie. Le titre sonne plus grave et profond. On retrouve un peu cette sensation sur “Hostage of the Game” un peu plus loin sur l’opus. 84 Days arrive également à nous faire ressentir une certaine agressivité avec “Never Find the Righteous”. La voix de Randy Bradbury nous envoie dans quelque chose d’assez old school. Certains riffs, par exemple sur “Hostage of the Game” ou “Ticking Away” sonnent très rock old school également. On ne quitte pour autant jamais l’esprit punk rock qui caractérise le groupe. “Walk Through Danger” donne envie de prendre la route sans réfléchir en chantant le refrain à n’en plus finir. L’opus se referme sur “Smiling While we Drown”, titre qui porte particulièrement son nom, donnant effectivement le sourire comme un fuck au reste du monde.
84 Days et son album éponyme apportent un vent de fraîcheur, d’émotions positives, et surtout de punk rock ! Un opus d’une efficacité redoutable qui devrait nous permettre de retrouver la forme au milieu de l’hiver qui arrive. Le groupe donnera ses premiers concerts aux Etats-Unis en décembre, ayant recruté Erik “Smelly” Sandin (NOFX) à la batterie. Souhaitons une belle et longue vie à ce projet !

After starting to write, he teamed up with Cameron Webb, a Grammy-winning producer who also played bass for the occasion. Adrian Young, drummer for No Doubt, took his place behind the drums in the studio, while Warren Fitzgerald (Vandals) lent a hand on guitar. With so many promising names involved, we just had to tell you about this release! 84 Days is set to be released on November 7th via SBAM Records and Double Helix Records.

We suspected as much with a studio lineup like this, but it’s confirmed from the very first notes: 84 Days is a highly effective opus. The band’s punk rock quickly draws us in. “Don’t Trust the Government” is a total hit. You sing the chorus from the first listen and it stays in your head long after. The album is super feel-good and full of catchy rhythms. However, each track has its own specific character. “Staying Alive,” for example, has slight hard rock influences mixed in with good old punk rock. “Ticking Away” is closer to pop punk, with its melodies and very effective chorus, which you also want to sing at the top of your lungs. “Don’t Look Down” has an ever-catchy rhythm, with a mix that pays tribute to the drums. But there’s also something more nostalgic about it, with a touch of melancholy. The track sounds deeper and more serious. We find a similar feeling a little further on in the album with “Hostage of the Game.” 84 Days also manages to make us feel a certain aggression with “Never Find the Righteous.” Randy Bradbury’s voice takes us back to something quite old school. Some riffs, for example on “Hostage of the Game” or “Ticking Away,” also sound very old school rock. However, the band never strays from its punk rock spirit. “Walk Through Danger” makes you want to hit the road without thinking twice, singing the chorus over and over again. The album closes with “Smiling While We Drown,” a track that lives up to its name, effectively giving the rest of the world the finger with a smile.
84 Days and their eponymous album bring a breath of fresh air, positive emotions, and above all, punk rock! This is a highly effective album that should help us get back in shape in the middle of the coming winter. The band will play their first concerts in the United States in December, having recruited Erik “Smelly” Sandin (NOFX) on drums. Let’s wish this project a long and successful life!
