Et si la musique devenait un remède ? Avec A Pharmacy of Songs, Louis Jucker, chanteur de Coilguns, imagine la chanson comme une prescription. En 2024, il installe deux « laboratoires » où le public vient consulter pour apaiser ses maux par la musique. Cinquante titres sont nés de cette expérience, réunis dans un livre publié le 28 novembre 2025 par Ripopée, Humus et A Tant Rêver Du Roi, accompagné d’un jukebox en ligne et d’un pressage vinyle à la demande. Une démarche artisanale et intime qui interroge la musique comme soin.

Pendant un mois à Lausanne (La Pharmacie) puis trois semaines à Fribourg (O.V.N.I.), Louis Jucker, que l’on connait dans son autre groupe Coilguns, a installé un studio minimaliste et invité le public à des « consultations » musicales. Chaque visiteur pouvait décrire ses symptômes, ses émotions, ses blessures intimes et repartir avec une chanson-remède. De cette expérience est né un livre, véritable guide sonore, indexé par parties du corps et par émotions : de la tête aux pieds, de la joie à la mélancolie, en passant par la confiance, le doute, la solitude, l’amour ou la liberté. Pour mener à bien ce projet, Louis Jucker a dû bousculer ses habitudes. Exit les nuits blanches en studio : il a travaillé en horaires de jour, enchaînant les « patients » comme un médecin, avec la ville qui s’agite derrière la vitre et les bus qui passent. Autre contrainte : un matériel réduit à l’essentiel, un enregistreur analogique quatre pistes et quelques instruments. Cette sobriété technique a donné naissance à des morceaux bruts, sincères, où chaque imperfection devient une part du remède. Une expérience qui interroge notre rapport à la création : et si la musique était avant tout un geste de soin ?
Plonger dans ces chansons, c’est parcourir un véritable voyage émotionnel. Certains titres agissent comme des baumes apaisants : « Switch It Off », sans doute le plus réconfortant, semble éteindre le tumulte intérieur, tandis que « Stimulus Bodyguard » évoque la douceur d’une veilleuse rassurante et « Sound Playful and Strange » apaise les vertiges avec une délicatesse rare. À l’opposé, d’autres titres insufflent une énergie libératrice : « A Whistling Wind » déborde de joie et de mouvement, « Tiny As I Am » invite à marcher pieds nus vers la lumière, et « Do the Brocki Beat » nous entraîne dans une danse entêtante, presque hypnotique.
La mélancolie, elle, se glisse dans des compositions plus introspectives. « A World of Foam » rappelle la pop élégante de Metronomy, mais teintée de tristesse, tandis que « The Tunnel » nous plonge dans une dépression lumineuse, un tunnel sombre mais porteur d’espoir. Plus loin, « A Library of Nonevents » s’attaque au chagrin d’amour avec une intensité qui prend aux tripes. À l’inverse, l’imaginaire et la folie créative explosent dans des morceaux comme « Be an Artist », véritable chaos jazz ponctué de cris, ou « Multiple Selves Cubist Portrait », qui traduit en sons la fragmentation cubiste d’une personnalité multiple. « Total Recess », frénétique, sonne comme une alarme ou une course contre la montre contre une deadline impossible à tenir.
L’enfance et la tendresse traversent aussi l’album : « Bullshit Radio » réveille des souvenirs sonores d’antan, « The Belly Talking » ressemble à une leçon intime sur son propre corps, et « In Your Limbo » illustre le passage délicat entre innocence et maturité. Ce rappel à l’enfance se fera aussi avec un morceau marquant « Everyone on the Plant » qui se distingue par sa portée humaine : un titre dédié à la lutte contre le cancer juvénile, porteur d’une force immense. Enfin, des curiosités instrumentales comme « Tortoise Shell » nous invitent à bâtir une carapace protectrice autour de nous, tandis que des titres plus granuleux comme « Beauty in Failure » ou « Higher Loans » rappellent que la fragilité peut être belle.
Les derniers morceaux prolongent cette exploration avec des nuances nouvelles. « What You Know Is You Don’t Know » nous plonge dans l’incertitude, ce vertige de faire le mauvais choix, tandis que « You’ll Want This One to Stop », très folk, à la limite de la country, nous apprend à accepter la fin des choses. « A Chest for Nest » évoque la maison comme refuge, qu’il s’agisse d’un lieu ou de notre propre corps, et « Autopilot Manual » surprend par ses sonorités électroniques proches d’un jeu vidéo. Enfin, « Justice Be Forgiven » clôt l’album sur un joyeux bordel, un débordement d’émotions dans un désir de justice.
Chaque morceau, qu’il soit doux, chaotique ou mélancolique, agit comme une prescription sonore, un remède à un état d’âme précis. Ce n’est pas un simple album : c’est une pharmacie musicale où l’on vient chercher un peu de lumière. L’album est si riche que chaque écoute vient nous toucher en plein coeur de manière différentes. Il y a tout ce qu’il faut, pour toutes les étapes de votre vie, et de vos émotions.

What if music became medicine? With A Pharmacy of Songs, Louis Jucker, singer with Coilguns, imagines songs as prescriptions. In 2024, he set up two “laboratories” where the public could come for consultations to soothe their ailments with music. Fifty tracks were born from this experiment, brought together in a book published on November 28, 2025, by Ripopée, Humus, and A Tant Rêver Du Roi, accompanied by an online jukebox and on-demand vinyl pressing. An artisanal and intimate approach that questions music as a form of healing.
For one month in Lausanne (La Pharmacie) and then three weeks in Fribourg (O.V.N.I.), Louis Jucker, known for his other band Coilguns, set up a minimalist studio and invited the public to musical “consultations.” Each visitor could describe their symptoms, emotions, and inner wounds and leave with a song as a remedy. This experience gave rise to a book, a veritable sound guide, indexed by body parts and emotions: from head to toe, from joy to melancholy, via confidence, doubt, loneliness, love, and freedom. To carry out this project, Louis Jucker had to shake up his habits. Gone were the sleepless nights in the studio: he worked during the day, seeing “patients” one after another like a doctor, with the city bustling behind the window and buses passing by. Another constraint: equipment reduced to the bare essentials, a four-track analog recorder and a few instruments. This technical simplicity gave rise to raw, sincere tracks, where every imperfection becomes part of the remedy. An experience that questions our relationship with creation: what if music were above all an act of healing?
Immersing yourself in these songs is like embarking on an emotional journey. Some tracks act as soothing balms: “Switch It Off,” undoubtedly the most comforting, seems to quiet the inner turmoil, while “Stimulus Bodyguard” evokes the gentleness of a reassuring nightlight and “Sound Playful and Strange” calms vertigo with rare delicacy. In contrast, other tracks infuse a liberating energy: “A Whistling Wind” overflows with joy and movement, “Tiny As I Am” invites us to walk barefoot towards the light, and “Do the Brocki Beat” draws us into a heady, almost hypnotic dance.
Melancholy creeps into the more introspective compositions. “A World of Foam” recalls the elegant pop of Metronomy, but tinged with sadness, while “The Tunnel” plunges us into a luminous depression, a dark tunnel that nevertheless offers hope. Further on, “A Library of Nonevents” tackles heartbreak with gut-wrenching intensity. In contrast, imagination and creative madness explode in tracks like “Be an Artist,” a veritable jazz chaos punctuated by screams, or “Multiple Selves Cubist Portrait,” which translates the cubist fragmentation of a multiple personality into sound. The frenetic “Total Recess” sounds like an alarm or a race against time to meet an impossible deadline.
Childhood and tenderness also run through the album: “Bullshit Radio” awakens auditory memories of yesteryear, “The Belly Talking” resembles an intimate lesson about one’s own body, and “In Your Limbo” illustrates the delicate transition between innocence and maturity. This reminder of childhood also comes through in the striking track “Everyone on the Plant,” which stands out for its human scope: a song dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer, imbued with immense power. Finally, instrumental curiosities such as “Tortoise Shell” invite us to build a protective shell around ourselves, while more granular tracks such as “Beauty in Failure” and “Higher Loans” remind us that fragility can be beautiful.
The last few tracks continue this exploration with new nuances. “What You Know Is You Don’t Know” plunges us into uncertainty, the vertigo of making the wrong choice, while “You’ll Want This One to Stop,” very folk, bordering on country, teaches us to accept the end of things. “A Chest for Nest” evokes home as a refuge, whether it be a place or our own body, and “Autopilot Manual” surprises with its electronic sounds reminiscent of a video game. Finally, “Justice Be Forgiven” closes the album on a joyful mess, an overflow of emotions in a desire for justice.
Each track, whether gentle, chaotic, or melancholic, acts as a musical prescription, a remedy for a specific state of mind. This is not just an album: it is a musical pharmacy where you can come and find a little light. The album is so rich that each listen touches our hearts in a different way. It has everything you need for every stage of your life and every emotion.
