Avant leur concert avec Nothing More, Catch Your Breath et Ankor, nous avons pris un moment pour discuter avec Markus (chant), Viking (batterie) et David (guitare) du groupe Solence afin de parler de leur dernier album Angels Calling. Ils ne s’arrêtent jamais de travailler pour nous offrir la “Solence experience”, et cet échange nous a permis d’avoir un aperçu de leur manière de fonctionner et de vivre leur musique.

Zoé : Vous avez sorti votre dernier album il y a un mois maintenant. Qu’est-ce que ça fait de le jouer en live devant le public ?

Markus : C’est fantastique. Mieux que jamais, je trouve.

Zoé : Cet album, Angels Calling, donne l’impression de suivre un arc narratif : un combat contre ses démons et une invitation à vivre pleinement sa vie. Quel est le message ou l’émotion que vous souhaitez transmettre ?

Markus : Je pense que c’est exactement ça. En gros, fais ce que tu as envie de faire, sans regrets, avant de mourir. Honnêtement, le côté combat contre les démons, c’est plutôt cette idée que tu dois traverser des épreuves, tout affronter et avancer pour faire ce que tu veux vraiment. Mais l’ensemble de l’album, c’est surtout de la motivation, croire en soi jusqu’à ce que « l’ange te rappelle à la maison ».

Zoé : C’est votre cinquième album si je ne me trompe pas. Comment le situez-vous dans votre parcours en tant que groupe ?

Viking : Je dirais qu’on assume davantage notre côté plus lourd/metal. Et aussi un peu plus sérieux. Parce que d’habitude, on est surtout dans l’énergie, le fun, les vibes positives. On l’est toujours, bien sûr, mais avec cet album, on assume aussi un côté plus sérieux. On adore tous la musique plus heavy, donc on voulait vraiment l’intégrer à l’album.
Markus : Littéralement, chaque morceau de cet album a un breakdown. Du coup, c’est vraiment l’expérience Solence ultime. On a pris tout ce qu’on aimait dans nos albums précédents pour tout rassembler ici. Et c’est fantastique, on adore cet album.

Zoé : Quelles ont été vos sources d’inspiration ? Vous avez parlé de vos albums précédents, mais quoi d’autre ?

Markus : On est inspirés par énormément de choses. Je pense qu’on n’est pas comme beaucoup d’autres groupes à ce niveau-là. On s’inspire vraiment de ce qu’on ressent sur le moment. On écrit tous les jours, littéralement tous les jours au studio. Et on veut juste faire la meilleure musique possible. La seule vraie question qu’on se pose, c’est : qu’est-ce que j’ai envie de faire aujourd’hui ? Qu’est-ce que j’ai envie de ressentir ? Et essayer d’exprimer ça du mieux possible, même si ça prend plusieurs semaines pour trouver la bonne vibe.
Viking : Ouais. Et on a aussi notre… comment dire…
Markus : Directeur créatif.
Viking : Directeur créatif, media guy. Il fait de la musique EDM, et il a travaillé sur cet album aussi. Ça a vraiment apporté une saveur particulière.
Markus : C’est un album très collaboratif, dans ce sens.

Zoé : Si vous deviez décrire Angels Calling comme une période ou un moment de votre vie, lequel ce serait ?

Markus : Honnêtement, je pense que c’est exactement là où on en est aujourd’hui. En vieillissant, tu réalises ce qu’est le temps. Il y a dix ans, j’avais l’impression qu’il était infini. Aujourd’hui, tu sens que tu vieillis, que les choses avancent. Et si tu ne fais pas ce que tu veux vraiment faire dans ta vie, alors tu ne le feras jamais. Cet album, pour nous, c’est ça : on est en tournée, on joue dans ce groupe, on vit littéralement nos rêves. Et c’est exactement ce que cet album représente pour nous.

Zoé : Votre musique présente un équilibre souvent entre la force et la vulnérabilité. Comment arrivez-vous à retranscrire ça sur scène ?

Markus : C’est devenu beaucoup plus facile, parce qu’on joue sérieusement en live depuis environ trois ans. Chaque morceau de cet album a aussi été pensé avec le live en tête. Du coup, il fonctionne extrêmement bien sur scène.

Zoé : Quelle est votre chanson préférée de l’album à jouer en live sur cette tournée ?

Markus : On n’en a pas encore joué tant que ça, peut-être deux ou trois.
Viking : Parmi celles qu’on joue, je dirais… (chantant avec Markus) Where were you?
Markus : Ok, moi je dirais “Angels Calling”. J’ai l’impression qu’elle nous appelle vraiment plus.
Viking : Oh, je pensais qu’on était d’accord.
Markus : Non, non, mais tu l’as trop bien chantée. Mais “Where Were You” a un groove de batterie vraiment cool et un rythme très entraînant. Et “Angels Calling” a ce côté rebondissant que j’adore en live.
Viking : Les deux ont des breakdowns incroyables.
Markus : Et toi David, laquelle tu préfères jouer ?
David : “Where Were You”, je crois…
Markus : Sérieux ? Instrumentalement, elle a l’air vraiment fun à jouer.
Viking : Et moi je peux chanter les backs en jouant de la batterie, donc c’est cool.
Markus : C’est vrai.

Zoé : Comment se passent les tournées avec Nothing More jusqu’ici ?

Markus : Horrible. (rires) Non, c’est génial. C’est la plus longue tournée qu’on ait jamais faite, donc on commence à le ressentir, surtout qu’il ne reste que quelques dates. Mais tout est incroyable : l’équipe, le catering est vraiment dingue, les autres groupes sont géniaux.
Viking : Et c’est toujours cool de rencontrer les équipes aussi. Leur drum tech m’a énormément aidé, surtout quand des trucs cassent sur la route.
Markus : Oui, vraiment adorables.
Viking : Cette tournée a une super vibe.
Markus : Les concerts sont incroyables, beaucoup de dates sold out, et énormément de fans de Solence dans le public. On est vraiment reconnaissants.

Zoé : Comment ressentez-vous le public ? À quel moment savez-vous que c’est une réussite pour vous ?

Markus : (souriant) Solence est toujours une réussite, madame. Mais honnêtement, on ne se soucie pas vraiment du type de public. On fait le show, peu importe.
Viking : On livrera toujours l’expérience Solence.
Markus : (rires) On ne se soucie pas du public, on le crée.
Viking : On est là pour faire notre boulot.
Markus : Et leur offrir l’expérience Solence.

Zoé : Comment voyez-vous l’évolution de Solence après ce cinquième album et cette tournée ?

Markus : Je veux juste que ça grandisse. Peu importe la direction. Le plus important pour nous, c’est l’intégrité : faire la musique qu’on aime, la sortir, partager nos visions avec le monde et continuer à construire ce projet. Il n’y a pas de plan ultra précis, juste l’envie de grandir tout en prenant du plaisir.

Zoé : Vous disiez écrire tous les jours. Peut-on s’attendre à quelque chose de nouveau pour 2026 ?

Markus : Il faut toujours s’attendre à du nouveau. On travaille déjà sur ce que sera le prochain album, ou peu importe ce que ce sera. On est déjà en train d’écrire de nouveaux morceaux, on ne s’arrête jamais. Donc on continue d’avancer. Oui, madame.

Zoé : Donc il y a toujours quelque chose qui mijote.

Markus : Toujours. Toujours. Mais on a aussi, enfin… toi par exemple, tu travailles sur un autre projet. (en parlant à Viking)
Viking : Oui.
Markus : David travaille sur d’autres musiques. Moi aussi. On a plein de choses différentes en cours au studio. On est tous des rats de studio. La seule chose qu’on fait, c’est aller au studio, et que ce soit un morceau de Solence, un autre projet, des répétitions ou la préparation de la prochaine tournée, il se passe toujours quelque chose.
Viking : Peu importe ce qu’on fait, on le fait à fond et on apprend. Du coup, le futur de Solence sera encore plus fou et encore meilleur.

Zoé : Est-ce que vous avez un artiste émergent, dans la scène metal ou ailleurs, que vous aimeriez recommander ?

Markus : Non, pas vraiment. Vous en avez, vous ? J’écoute surtout des groupes et artistes déjà bien installés.
Viking : Oui… non, là comme ça, je n’ai rien qui me vient.
David : Je pense que Vianova, c’est bien.
Markus : Oui.
Viking : Oui.
David : Ils ont de très bons morceaux. Je pense que ça peut devenir vraiment intéressant pour la suite.
Markus : C’est un groupe cool, on a écouté quelques titres.

Zoé : Oui, j’ai vu leur nom passer récemment, mais il faut encore que je les écoute. Et un titre que vous avez en boucle en ce moment dans vos playlists ?

Markus : En ce moment, c’est… je crois que ça s’appelle Dancing in the Pale Moonlight de Dayseeker. Je l’ai en boucle. Cet album est incroyable. Et toi ? (s’adressant à Viking)
Viking : Pour moi, c’est Alpha Wolf avec un autre groupe… c’est quoi déjà le titre ? Pull Me Under… ? Non, voilà : “Drag Me Under” !
Markus : J’adore aussi LANDMVRKS. (en montrant mon t-shirt) Français, non ?
Zoé : Oui.
Markus : Logique. Ils sont incroyables.

Before their concert with Nothing More, Catch Your Breath, and Ankor, we took a moment to chat with Markus (vocals), Viking (drums), and David (guitar) from the band Solence to talk about their latest album, Angels Calling. They never stop working to bring us the “Solence experience,” and this conversation gave us a glimpse into how they work and live their music.

Zoé: You released your latest album a month ago now. How did it feel to play it live with people?

Markus : It’s fantastic. It’s better than ever, I feel like.

Zoé : This album, Angels Calling, it feels to follow a narrative arc; where you’re battling your demons and encouraged to live your life fully. What is the message or emotion you want to convey with it?

Markus : I think that’s exactly it. It’s like basically do whatever you feel like with no regrets before you die. It’s honestly, I think that battling with demons thing is more like a thing where it’s like you just have to go through everything and push through everything in order to do what you want.But the whole thing is just motivation, believing in yourself until “the Angel calls you home”.

Zoé : It’s your fifth album if I’m not wrong. How do you feel it is placed in your journey as a band?

Viking : Well, we’re embracing our harder side, I would say. Also a little bit more serious. Because we’re usually about, of course we’re still that, but energy and having fun and positive vibes. We still have that, but with this album we also, yeah, embrace the more serious side. We all love heavy music, so we want to get that into the album.

Markus : Like every song on this album literally has a breakdown. So it’s like, I think it’s just like the ultimate Solence experience.  We’ve taken everything that we liked from the last albums to put, just put them all together into this one. And it’s fantastic, and we love it.

Zoé : What were your sources of inspiration? So you talked about your last album but what else?

Markus: We’re inspired by a lot of things. I think that we’re not maybe like other bands in that sense. I think we’re just inspired by whatever we feel like at that moment. We write every day, I mean, every day in the studio. And I feel like we just want to make music that’s the best we can do.And I feel like the only thing we really try to think about is just like, what do I want to do today? What do I want to feel like?  And kind of like try to express that as good as possible and that it just takes fucking weeks to get it to get the right vibe or whatever.

Viking: Yeah. And we have, we actually have our, what do you say, media handle?

Markus : Creative director.

Viking : Creative director, media guy. He’s doing EDM music, so he’s been on this album as well. And that has really given it a certain flavor. It’s really cool that we are all really…

Markus : Very collaborative album in that sense.

Viking : Yeah.

Zoé : That’s great. And if you could describe Angel’s calling in like a long shape or a moment of your life, what would it be?

Markus : I think it would be, honestly, I think it’s really like where we are right now. I think also getting older, it’s like you realize what time is. Like 10 years ago I felt like time was unlimited, like it didn’t matter, I had so much time, but right now it feels like you’re actually getting older, like things are happening. So if you don’t do the stuff that you really want to do in your life, like you won’t be doing that ever. So I think that it’s very like the whole album for us right now is just kind of like: we tour, we play in this band, we’re living our dreams basically. And I feel like that’s exactly what it feels like and what it represents to us.

Zoé : You’ve been like balancing with strength and vulnerability in your music. How do you feel like you can represent it on stage?

Markus : It’s been so much easier because we started playing live like three years ago, seriously. I think with every song on this album, it just feels like it’s done also with a live narrative in mind. So I feel like this album fits really well on stage and works really well on stage.

Zoé : What is your favorite song of the album to play live in this tour?

Markus: We haven’t played that much, it’s been like three songs or two songs on this tour.

Viking : From the ones we have been playing, I think it is… (singing with Markus) Where were you?

Markus : Okay, so I’m going to say “Angels calling”. I think you’re just calling us the most.

Viking : Oh, I thought we were agreed on.

Markus : No, no, no, but you did it so well. But I think “Where Were You” has a really nice groove to the drums and a driving rhythm to it. Yeah, I feel like you’re just calling is such a like, I love that kind of like bounciness in it. So that’s really cool to play live.

Viking : Both have really nice breakdowns.

Markus : Which one is your favorite, David? “Angels Calling” or “Where were you”, play live?

David : “Where were you?” I don’t know… 

Markus : Really? That song seems fun to play like instrumentally. It does.

Viking : I get to sing the backup thing in between, so that’s fun. Even though I play drums.

Markus : That’s true.

Zoé : And how have been the tours so far with Nothing More?

Markus : Terrible. (everyone laugh) It’s been awesome, it’s been awesome.I mean, it’s the longest tour we’ve ever done, so you really start to feel it now, that it’s only a few days left. But it’s been great, I mean the whole crew is amazing. The catering has been fucking fantastic. It’s been awesome, and the other bands are really great.

Viking : Yeah, it’s always fun to meet the crews as well, among the bands. Then you get along on the road, and yeah, we’ve been hanging out a little bit with them. You meet so many nice people that help you out with things. Like their drum tech has helped me out so much with the drums, things break on the road.

Markus : Yeah, very nice.

Viking : The previous tour as well, it’s just a tour thing.

Markus : This tour feels like it’s a good vibe.

Viking : Yeah, yeah, definitely.

Markus : The shows have been great. The crowds have been amazing, a lot of sold out shows, and a lot of Solence fans as well in the crowd, so we’re really happy to have all the fans out there come to the shows.

Zoé : How do you feel about the crowd? When do you know that it’s a success for you?

Markus : (smiling) Solence is always a success, yes ma’am. But I honestly think that we don’t really care about what crowd it is, we just make it happen. And I feel like one of our strengths are basically that whatever crowd we get put into, we kind of like get the vibe there anyways.

Viking : No matter, we will always deliver the Solence experience.

Markus : (laughing)We don’t care about the crowd, we will make them. We will make them a crowd.

Viking : We’re here to do a job.

Markus : And give them the Solence experience, yes ma’am.

Zoé: How do you see Solence evolve next after this fifth album, this tour?

Markus : That’s the thing, I just want it to grow. I don’t really care about which direction. But the most important thing for us is always integrity, keeping that we do the music that we love, that we get to make the music that we love, that we can release the music that we love, and that we’re able to just have our visions out in the world. And continue to build on this band and on this legacy that we’re working on right now. So there’s no like amazing plan in the future, it’s more like we’re just trying to grow it while doing things that we think is fun.

Zoé : And you told us before that you were writing every day, so should we expect anything new for 2026?

Markus : You should always expect anything new. We’re already working on whatever the next album is or whatever that is. We’re already working on the new songs, we never stop. So we keep coming. Yes, ma’am.

Zoé: So there is always something cooking.

Markus : Always. Always. But we’re also, I mean, you have, like, a different project that you’re working on. (Speaking to Viking)

Viking : Yeah.

Markus : David is working on other music. I’m working on other music. We have, like, tons of different things going on in the studios. We’re studio rats, all of us. Like, the only thing we do is we go to the studio, and even if it’s a Solence song or, like, another song, or we’re rehearsing or we’re preparing for the next tour, it’s always something that’s going on.

Viking : No matter what we do, we always do it and we learn. So the future Solence stuff will be more crazy and more awesome.

Zoé : Do you have a special emerging artist in the metal scene or somewhere else that you would like to recommend to people?

Markus : No, I don’t think so. Do you guys have any? I’m more listening to, like, already established groups and artists.

Viking : Yeah. No, I can’t think of any on the spot like this.

David : I think the band Vianova is good.

Markus : Yeah.

Viking : Yeah.

David : I mean, they have some good stuff. I feel like that could be very interesting in the future as well.

Markus : That’s a cool band that we heard a few songs from.

Zoé : Yeah.I saw their name not so long ago, but I still need to listen to them. And something you have on repeat in your playlist, what would it be?

Markus : Right now, it’s…I think it’s called Dancing in the Pale Moonlight with Dayseeker. It’s a repeat for me. That shit, that album is amazing. What about you? (to Viking)

Viking : For me, it’s Alpha Wolf featuring another band. What is this song, under…? Pull Me Under…? That’s it. “Drag Me Under.”!

Markus : I love the LANDMVRKS as well. (showing my shirt). French, right?

Zoé : Yeah.

Markus : Makes sense. They’re amazing.
