Après deux EP en 2020 et 2020, les bruxellois de Through The Void nous proposent de découvrir All The Words, leur troisième sortie. Disponible depuis le 5 décembre en autoproduction, cet EP vient proposer cinq nouveaux titres qui montrent avec aisance ce dont la formation est capable le tout servi par un son taillé pour vous chauffer les tympans, avec une production servie par ceux responsables des sorties récentes majeures dans le milieu hardcore et métalcore.

Le premier titre nous plonge dans ce mélange entre métalcore et nu-métal dont le groupe a le secret. Marquée autant par la scène des années 90 que le son auquel la scène actuelle nous habitue, l’identité du groupe se dévoile à nous avec force. La voix de Chakib Zanouny frappe par sa puissance, et amplifiée par des effets vocaux sur le très efficace « Wake Up ». Cet EP vient montrer que le groupe évolue encore et toujours vers un son plus massif, et les guitares de Anthony Destruhaut viennent le confirmer tout au long du disque. Le groupe va chercher vers le hardcore avec un titre comme « Listen » qui alterne partie quasi rappées sur le couplet et un refrain qui nous rappelle des groupes comme Knocked Loose, ce qui est peu étonnant puisque le mastering est signé Jeff Dune qui n’est autre qu’un collaborateur régulier du groupe américain. Côté produciton on retrouve Kévin D’Agostino (Landmvrks) qui vient renforcer un peu plus ce côté dévastateur de la formation, tout en étant également responsable des sons de scratch nombreux tout au long de l’EP et venant l’encrer un peu plus dans cette vibe 90’s. La partie rythmique servie par David Annenkoff à la batterie et Rémi Liekens à la basse nous en met plein la vue et nous donne envie de lancer un mosh dans le salon. Le dernier titre du disque, « Tar Morning » confirme que le groupe sait où il veut aller avec un titre taillé pour la scène. Entre gros riffs, sonorités très nu-métal et chant maîtrisé, on retrouve dans ce dernier titre un dernier bel aperçu de ce dont la formation bruxelloise est capable.
Avec All The Words, Through The Void confirment qu’ils sont un nom à suivre de cette scène métalcore européenne foisonnante. Avec un son qui s’étoffe de sorties en sorties le groupe arrive à nous surprendre avec un son varié qui captive tout au long de l’écoute. Dans une scène où le son a tendance à tourner en rond, cet EP vient proposer une identité sonore à cheval sur deux époques qui fonctionne à merveille. After two EPs in 2020 and 2020, Brussels band Through The Void invites us to discover All The Words, their third release. Available since December 5th as a self-release, this EP features five new tracks that effortlessly showcase the band’s capabilities, all served up with a sound designed to blow your eardrums, produced by those responsible for recent major releases in the hardcore and metalcore scene.
The first track plunges us into the band’s signature blend of metalcore and nu metal. Influenced as much by the 90s scene as by the sound we are used to hearing today, the band’s identity is revealed to us with force. Chakib Zanouny‘s voice is strikingly powerful, amplified by vocal effects on the highly effective ‘Wake Up’. This EP shows that the band is still evolving towards a more massive sound, and Anthony Destruhaut‘s guitars confirm this throughout the album. The band ventures into hardcore territory with a track like ‘Listen’, which alternates between almost rap-like verses and a chorus reminiscent of bands like Knocked Loose, which is hardly surprising since the mastering is by Jeff Dune, a regular collaborator with the American band. On the production side, Kévin D’Agostino (Landmvrks) reinforces the band’s devastating side, while also being responsible for the numerous scratch sounds throughout the EP, further cementing its 90s vibe. The rhythm section, provided by David Annenkoff on drums and Rémi Liekens on bass, blows us away and makes us want to start moshing in the living room. The last track on the album, ‘Tar Morning’, confirms that the band knows where it wants to go with a track tailor-made for the stage. Between heavy riffs, nu-metal sounds and masterful vocals, this final track gives us a last glimpse of what the Brussels-based band is capable of.
With All The Words, Through The Void confirm that they are a name to watch in the thriving European metalcore scene. With a sound that grows richer with each release, the band manages to surprise us with a varied sound that captivates throughout. In a scene where the sound tends to go round in circles, this EP offers a sound identity that straddles two eras and works wonderfully.
