#Album : Vera Daisies – Clever Girl (16/01/2026)

Alors que le printemps 2024 annonçait la fin du groupe Ottis Coeur, pas question de perdre du radar les deux musiciennes. Fin 2023, nous découvrions Vera Daisies en solo, en ouverture de Grandma’s Ashes à Ivry-sur-seine, et déjà nous vous conseillions ici même de suivre son travail de très près. Nous revoici donc un peu plus de deux ans plus tard avec le tout premier EP de Vera Daisies, intitulé Clever Girl, dont la sortie est prévu ce 16 janvier via GRRRANDE Records.

En 2023 et aujourd’hui, nous avions déjà eu un aperçu du travail de Vera Daisies sur ce premier EP sur la belle scène de l’Aéronef, en ouverture d’Adé, et une fois encore, nous vous encouragions à écouter le travail de la jeune fille. Il est l’heure de se plonger dans la gueule du loup, ou plutôt du reptile. Visuellement, ce disque présente une identité forte, où les reptiles et textures organiques s’invitent dans les pochettes, mais également dans toutes la D.A de l’artiste et dans les mini vidéos qui peuplent ses réseaux sociaux. Mais dès les premières notes, Vera Daisies brouille les pistes avec « Chess Girl », un titre au rock abrasif qui contraste avec le subtile autotune qui teinte le morceau de mélancolie pop acidulée. Il faut au moins ça pour parler de la complexité des relations humaines, proche d’une partie de jeu d’échec. Le titre suivant, « 666 » s’érige en hymne lumineux d’émancipation, comme une claque positive qui invite à s’éloigner des relations toxiques, à penser à soi. Il y a dans ce titre une énergie qui ferait des merveilles en duo avec Sun Brutal Pop. Mais calmons nous quelques minutes avec « Take It Slow » qui offre une respiration pop et dansante, avant de plonger dans « Missing Something », en featuring avec Sloe Noon. Ce titre nous plonge dans des nappes shoegazes qui se laissent vite dépasser par des riffs puissants. Enfin, « Can’t Blame You » vient clôturer l’EP sur une confession douce-amère, portée par des guitares saturées et une esthétique très 90s, où se mêlent la fin d’une relation et la difficulté d’aimer pleinement.

Cet EP, qui mériterait d’être étiré en longueur pour apprécier encore plus le talent de l’artiste est une entrée en matière ambitieuse pour Vera Daisies. Elle s’affirme comme une artiste à suivre, et ça tombe bien, elle vient de signer chez Sony Music. Il n’y a donc pas que nous qui y voyons une grande artiste en devenir.

While spring 2024 heralded the end of the band Ottis Coeur, there was no question of losing sight of the two musicians. At the end of 2023, we discovered Vera Daisies as a solo artist, opening for Grandma’s Ashes in Ivry-sur-Seine, and we already advised you here to follow her work very closely. Now, a little over two years later, we’re back with Vera Daisies’ very first EP, Clever Girl, scheduled for release on January 16th via GRRRANDE Records.

In 2023 and today, we already had a glimpse of Vera Daisies‘ work on this first EP on the beautiful stage of the Aéronef, opening for Adé, and once again, we encourage you to listen to the young girl’s work. It’s time to dive into the lion’s den, or rather the reptile’s. Visually, this record has a strong identity, with reptiles and organic textures featured on the covers, as well as in all of the artist’s visual identity and in the mini videos that populate her social media. But from the very first notes, Vera Daisies blurs the lines with “Chess Girl,” an abrasive rock track that contrasts with the subtle autotune that tinges the song with tart pop melancholy. It takes at least that to talk about the complexity of human relationships, which are similar to a game of chess. The next track, “666,” stands as a luminous anthem of emancipation, like a positive slap in the face that invites you to walk away from toxic relationships and think about yourself. There is an energy in this track that would work wonders in a duet with Sun Brutal Pop. But let’s calm down for a few minutes with “Take It Slow,” which offers a pop and danceable respite, before diving into “Missing Something,” featuring Sloe Noon. This track plunges us into shoegaze layers that are quickly overtaken by powerful riffs. Finally, “Can’t Blame You” closes the EP with a bittersweet confession, carried by saturated guitars and a very 90s aesthetic, blending the end of a relationship with the difficulty of loving fully.

This EP, which deserves to be stretched out to fully appreciate the artist’s talent, is an ambitious introduction to Vera Daisies. She is establishing herself as an artist to watch, and luckily for us, she has just signed with Sony Music. So we’re not the only ones who see her as a great artist in the making.
