La musique de France Gall résonne en nous depuis de nombreuses années et sa disparition il y a déjà huit ans a mis un arrêt brusque à notre espoir de la voir un jour en live. Alors quand on a vu qu’un concert hommage à la chanteuse se déroulait au Théâtre Sébastopol de Lille on a vite décidé qu’on ne pouvait pour rien au monde manquer cette soirée. Arrivés de Belgique, Julie Compagnon & Les Hong Kong Stars viennent nous proposer le meilleur de la discographie de France Gall pour leur tout premier concert en France.

La salle est quasi pleine lorsque la lumière s’éteint dans le Sébastopol et voilà le groupe qui débarque sur scène suivi de près par Julie Compagnon. C’est bien sûr « Musique » qui ouvre le concert et rapidement nous voilà transportés grâce à l’interprétation sans faute de chaque personne sur scène dans l’univers de la chanteuse française. Suivent « Comment Lui Dire » et « Cézane Peint » qui nous donnent déjà un bel aperçu du talent de Julie Compagnon, qui sans vouloir imiter France Gall interprète ses chansons avec brio et un amour sincère pour ces chansons gravées dans nos mémoires. Le public applaudit largement et n’hésite pas à reprendre les titres en chœur. « Plus D’été » et « Amor También (Tout le monde chante) » nous refond découvrir des morceaux un peu moins mythiques de la carrière de la chanteuse et nous voilà définitivement emportés pour la soirée. Direction les morceaux plus doux du set avec le medley empli d’émotions formé par « Ma Déclaration », « Si Maman Si » et « Message Personnel ». Chaque personne sur scène donne tout et certains musiciens et choriste passent même d’un instrument à l’autre sans effort. La prestation est déjà un très bel hommage et on sent que chaque nouveau morceau joué fait grandir l’envie du public de donner toute son énergie à la formation belge.
Evidemment la carrière de France Gall est marquée par sa relation fusionnelle avec Michel Berger et c’est donc parti pour un petit tour pour de très belles version de « Mademoiselle Chang » ou encore de leur duo « Laisse Passer Les Rêves ». Entre les deux le cultissime « Débranche » résonne et donne à la foule une première occasion de se lever de son siège. Julie Compagnon remercie le public de nombreuses fois pour l’accueil et d’être venu si nombreux pour ce premier concert Français de ce projet hommage. Le concert file à une vitesse folle et après un petit moment acoustique magistral sur « Diego » on reste du côté de Michel Berger avec « Les Princes Des Villes », qui est une excellente surprise tant la chanson est magistralement interprétée. Mais entre les deux titres c’est « Evidemment » qui permet au public de donner de la voix une fois de plus. On sent que la fin approche mais il reste les tubes « La Groupie Du Pianiste », « Résiste » ou encore « Babacar » pour profiter pleinement du talent de chaque personne sur scène. Après une présentation des Hong Kong Stars, Julie Compagnon se lance dans les deux derniers titres de la soirée avec les cultissimes « Ella, elle l’a » et « Il Jouait Du Piano Debout » qui laisse à chaque musicien l’occasion de faire résonner ses instruments de la plus belle des manières. Largement applaudis le groupe salue le public et nous laisse avec l’envie que la soirée ne s’arrête pas de suite. Mais surtout après un regard en coulisses Julie nous annonce que la formation sera de retour au même endroit en octobre prochain!
Le public en redemande et c’est donc rapidement que nos hôtes de ce soir reviennent nous interpréter deux titres. C’est bien sûr « Hong Kong Stars », nom du groupe qui accompagne Julie Compagnon, qui résonne pour notre plus grand bonheur avant que « C’est Bon Que Tu Sois Là » ne vienne définitivement mettre fin à la soirée de la plus belle des manières. C’est une véritable standing ovation du public qui viendra remercier Julie Compagnon et le groupe pour ce concert inoubliable dans le monde de France Gall.
Que dire à part que cette soirée en compagnie de Julie Compagnon et des Hong Kong Stars a plus que comblé nos attentes. Aussi bien côté chant que interprétation chaque personne présente sur scène a offert un vibrant hommage à la musique de France Gall en gardant toute l’énergie qui la caractérisait mais tout en y apportant leur touche et leur amour pour sa musique. On ne peut que vous conseiller de foncer voir la séance de rattrapage en octobre prochain! En tout cas on ne manquera ça pour rien au monde!

France Gall’s music has resonated with us for many years, and her passing eight years ago put a sudden end to our hopes of ever seeing her perform live. So when we saw that a tribute concert to the singer was taking place at the Théâtre Sébastopol in Lille, we quickly decided that we couldn’t miss this evening for anything in the world. Arriving from Belgium, Julie Compagnon & Les Hong Kong Stars are offering us the best of France Gall’s discography for their very first concert in France.

The venue is almost full when the lights go down at the Sébastopol and the band takes to the stage, closely followed by Julie Compagnon. Naturally, ‘Musique’ opens the concert and we are quickly transported into the French singer’s world thanks to the flawless performance of everyone on stage. Next come ‘Comment Lui Dire’ and ‘Cézane Peint’, which already give us a good idea of Julie Compagnon‘s talent. Without trying to imitate France Gall, she performs her songs brilliantly and with a sincere love for these songs that are engraved in our memories. The audience applauds loudly and doesn’t hesitate to sing along. ‘Plus D’été’ and ‘Amor También (Tout le monde chante)’ allow us to rediscover some of the less iconic songs from the singer’s career, and we are completely swept away for the evening. We move on to the softer songs of the set with an emotional medley of ‘Ma Déclaration’, ‘Si Maman Si’ and ‘Message Personnel’. Everyone on stage gives their all, with some musicians and backing singers even switching effortlessly from one instrument to another. The performance is already a beautiful tribute, and you can feel that with each new song played, the audience’s desire to give their all to the Belgian band grows.
France Gall‘s career is obviously marked by her close relationship with Michel Berger, so we’re off for a little tour of some beautiful versions of ‘Mademoiselle Chang’ and their duet ‘Laisse Passer Les Rêves’. In between, the cult classic ‘Débranche’ resonates and gives the crowd their first chance to get up from their seats. Julie Compagnon thanks the audience numerous times for their warm welcome and for coming out in such large numbers for this first French concert of the tribute project. The concert flies by at breakneck speed and, after a masterful acoustic interlude with ‘Diego’, we stay with Michel Berger with ‘Les Princes Des Villes’, which is an excellent surprise as the song is performed masterfully. But between the two songs, it is ‘Evidemment’ that allows the audience to sing along once again. We can feel that the end is approaching, but there are still the hits ‘La Groupie Du Pianiste’, “Résiste” and ‘Babacar’ to fully enjoy the talent of each person on stage. After introducing the Hong Kong Stars, Julie Compagnon launches into the last two songs of the evening with the cult classics ‘Ella, elle l’a’ and ‘Il Jouait Du Piano Debout’, which give each musician the opportunity to make their instruments sing in the most beautiful way. To loud applause, the band saluted the audience and left us wishing the evening would never end. But above all, after a look behind the scenes, Julie announces that the band will be back at the same venue next October!
The audience wants more, so our hosts for the evening quickly return to perform two more songs. Of course, it is ‘Hong Kong Stars’, the name of the band accompanying Julie Compagnon, that resonates to our great delight before ‘C’est Bon Que Tu Sois Là’ brings the evening to a close in the most beautiful way possible. The audience gives a standing ovation to thank Julie Compagnon and the band for this unforgettable concert in the world of France Gall.
What can we say except that this evening with Julie Compagnon and the Hong Kong Stars more than lived up to our expectations. Both in terms of singing and performance, everyone on stage paid a vibrant tribute to France Gall’s music, retaining all the energy that characterised her, while adding their own touch and love for her music. We can only advise you to rush to see the new performance next October! In any case, we wouldn’t miss it for the world!
