On démarre cet opus par une introduction au piano, lente, douce, mélancolique. Celle-ci vient nous plonger en notre fort intérieur pendant une petite minute. Puis “we need to get our stories straight” fait arriver les riffs de guitare puissants et percutants. Le chant plein d’émotions vient nous chopper pour ne plus jamais nous lâcher. Le titre, comme beaucoup de cet album, est à la fois particulièrement mélodique et agressif. Il monte en puissance faisant finalement éclore des cris puissants et bruts. Le sentiment d’urgence qui s’en dégage est un prémisse à plusieurs plages de text when you get home comme “summer over” ou “puta color”. On termine sur des sonorités plus lourdes qui sont une parfaite transition pour le titre suivant “summer over”. En effet, sur fond d’une rythmique toujours très dynamique, on rentre dans un univers plus sombre, avec des riffs lourds et plus pesants. Avec des passages assez old school mais à la fois modernisés, on y entend un petit côté Greta Van Fleet. vonsharon nous offre une ambiance qui va du rock moderne au post-punk en passant par le hard rock. “dm for collab” présente même un flow Maneskin indéniable. Le titre est particulièrement dansant.
Le duo propose ensuite un titre en featuring avec Paul Miles, ancien candidat de la Star Academy, à l’univers marqué et bien moins académique ! “televangelism” se veut plus calme, emmené par deux voix qui se mêlent, dans quelque chose rugueux, loin du côté lisse que l’on peut trouver dans le rock aseptisé. On y trouve un petit côté glam/ hard rock mais modernisé. Après un interlude reprenant l’esprit de l’introduction, l’opus se termine avec un enchaînement de titres plus graves. En effet, à partir de “got a lot to show you”, le groupe va puiser dans des émotions plus enfouies, davantage dans le versant de la tristesse ou du vide intérieur. “In tuscon” reste dans le même registre, avant que “wd40” n’aille encore plus loin, sur l’aspect mélancolique. On y retrouve l’ambiance de l’introduction, comme pour boucler la boucle. Ce dernier titre monte ensuite en intensité et vient délivrer quelque chose de puissant, avec de nouveau ce sentiment d’urgence qui se dégage.
vonsharon présente ici un album brut, sans fioriture, dont se dégage une vraie authenticité. J’ai pour habitude d’écouter les albums d’abord sans lire les biographies ou le contexte de sortie, pour avoir un avis purement personnel. C’est donc après la première écoute dont se dégageait fortement le sentiment d’urgence que j’ai compris pourquoi le duo arrivait à offrir une telle palette émotionnelle avec une formation minimaliste. En effet, Maxim est un survivant du Bataclan. Et nul doute que cela forge une musicalité puissante et personnelle. text when you get home est un album riche, accessible et plein de nuances, à mettre entre toutes les oreilles !

The Vannes-based duo vonsharon, led by Maxim and Noël, presents its album text when you get home. Released on February 13th, it features 10 tracks that explore various facets of original and powerful rock music.

The album opens with a slow, gentle, melancholic piano introduction. This plunges us into our innermost selves for a minute or so. Then ‘we need to get our stories straight’ brings in powerful and percussive guitar riffs. The emotionally charged vocals grab us and never let go. The track, like many on this album, is both particularly melodic and aggressive. It builds in intensity, finally erupting into powerful and raw cries. The sense of urgency that emanates from it is a prelude to several tracks on text when you get home, such as ‘summer over’ and ‘puta color’. We end on heavier sounds, which are a perfect transition to the next track, ‘summer over’. Indeed, against a backdrop of ever-dynamic rhythms, we enter a darker universe, with heavy and more ponderous riffs. With passages that are quite old school but at the same time modernised, there is a slight Greta Van Fleet vibe. vonsharon offers us an atmosphere that ranges from modern rock to post-punk and hard rock. ‘dm for collab’ even has an undeniable Maneskin flow. The track is particularly danceable.
The duo then offers a track featuring Paul Miles, a former Star Academy contestant, with a distinctive and much less academic style! ‘televangelism’ is calmer, carried by two voices that blend together in something rough, far from the smoothness found in sanitised rock. There is a slight glam/hard rock feel to it, but modernised. After an interlude that echoes the spirit of the introduction, the album ends with a series of more serious tracks. From ‘got a lot to show you’ onwards, the band draws on deeper emotions, leaning more towards sadness and inner emptiness. ‘In Tuscon’ remains in the same vein, before ‘wd40’ goes even further into melancholy. The atmosphere of the introduction returns, as if to bring things full circle. This last track then builds in intensity and delivers something powerful, with that same sense of urgency emerging once again.
vonsharon presents a raw, unadorned album that exudes genuine authenticity. I usually listen to albums first without reading the biographies or the context of their release, so that I can form a purely personal opinion. So it was after the first listen, which gave me a strong sense of urgency, that I understood why the duo was able to offer such an emotional range with a minimalist line-up. Maxim is a survivor of the Bataclan attack. There is no doubt that this has forged a powerful and personal musicality. text when you get home is a rich, accessible and nuanced album that everyone should listen to!
