En parallèle de leur signature chez le label allemand Arising Empire en juin 2025, les Canadiens de The Veer Union ont annoncé l’an dernier la sortie de leur nouvel album nommé Reinvention, prévu pour le 20 février 2026. Avec un nom aussi évocateur, les vétérans du alt-metal vont-ils vraiment réinventer leur musique ?

Depuis 2004, The Veer Union (originellement appelé Veer) a publié pas moins de huit albums studios marqués par des chansons accrocheuses et par la voix reconnaissable de l’indétrônable Crispin Earl. On peut notamment citer les titres “Seasons” (2008), “Living Not Alive” (2018), « Standing My Ground » (2022) ou encore « WELCOME TO DYSTOPIA » (2024). Dans la foulée de leur signature chez Arising Empire, le quatuor a rapidement dévoilé plusieurs singles, confirmant que le groupe continue de proposer des morceaux parfaitement exécutés. Les titres inédits de l’album suivent d’ailleurs la même trajectoire d’efficacité.
Avec Reinvention, le groupe nous sert une production plus massive qu’à l’accoutumée, portée par des guitares lourdes et une batterie encore plus impactante. En termes de sonorités, on retrouve divers éléments électroniques, synthés et effets glitchs, donnant un aspect futuriste qui n’est pas sans rappeler Starset. Cependant, l’élément central reste évidemment la voix éraillée de Crispin, qui n’hésite pas à faire preuve d’un peu plus d’agressivité, le tout sublimé par une production vocale impeccable. Le nouveau label Arising Empire, principalement reconnu pour le metalcore, a probablement joué un rôle crucial dans ce virage plus heavy !
D’entrée de jeu, The Veer Union déclenche une vague d’hymnes entêtants et fédérateurs à l’instar du génial “My Empire” ou de l’énergique “Caught in the Crossfire”. Les mélodies et les riffs sont accrocheurs, tandis que Crispin alterne chant clair et saturé, soutenu par le bassiste Glen Clarke aux chœurs. En parallèle, le sombre “Venom in My Veins” s’inscrit parmi les meilleures chansons de l’album, avec son refrain imparable qui ne quittera plus votre tête !
Dans un autre registre, les canadiens laissent place à l’émotion en alliant mélancolie et puissance sur « Sea of Fear » et son refrain hypnotisant ainsi que sur l’épique « Dying Light ». Les très catchy “Sunk Your Teeth » et « Feel Again”, avec leurs refrains pop, ne sont pas en reste.
Dans une veine plus traditionnelle, “Never Say Never” ravira les fans de la première heure avec son côté rock/metal « motivationnel » rappelant les racines du groupe, tandis que le très moderne “Meet Your Maker”, avec ses sonorités électroniques, s’avère plus audacieux. Reinvention se clôt enfin avec l’agressif “Hole in My Head”, un au revoir rapide et intense qui nous assène une dernière claque…
À travers Reinvention, The Veer Union délivre un album sans temps mort qui va droit au but. En modernisant leur musique plutôt qu’en la réinventant totalement, les Canadiens gardent cette identité rock/metal alternatif qui a fait leur renommée. Le groupe prépare par ailleurs une tournée nord-américaine et européenne, et avec des titres aussi taillés pour le live, il va sans dire que la fosse sera bien animée !

Alongside signing with German label Arising Empire in June 2025, Canadian band The Veer Union announced last year the release of their new album, Reinvention, scheduled for 20 February 2026. With such an evocative name, will the alt-metal veterans truly reinvent their music?
Since 2004, The Veer Union (originally called Veer) has released no fewer than eight studio albums marked by catchy songs and the recognisable voice of the unbeatable Crispin Earl. Notable tracks include ‘Seasons’ (2008), ‘Living Not Alive’ (2018), ‘Standing My Ground’ (2022) and ‘WELCOME TO DYSTOPIA’ (2024). Following their signing with Arising Empire, the quartet quickly released several singles, confirming that the band continues to deliver perfectly executed tracks. The new tracks on the album follow the same path of effectiveness.
With Reinvention, the band delivers a more massive production than usual, driven by heavy guitars and even more powerful drums. In terms of sound, there are various electronic elements, synths and glitch effects, giving it a futuristic feel reminiscent of Starset. However, the central element remains Crispin‘s raspy voice, which doesn’t hesitate to show a little more aggression, all enhanced by impeccable vocal production. The new label Arising Empire, mainly known for metalcore, has probably played a crucial role in this heavier shift!
Right from the start, The Veer Union unleashes a wave of catchy, unifying anthems such as the brilliant ‘My Empire’ and the energetic ‘Caught in the Crossfire’. The melodies and riffs are catchy, while Crispin alternates between clean and distorted vocals, supported by bassist Glen Clarke on backing vocals. At the same time, the dark ‘Venom in My Veins’ is one of the best songs on the album, with an unstoppable chorus that will stick in your head!
On another note, the Canadians give way to emotion by combining melancholy and power on ‘Sea of Fear’ with its hypnotic chorus, as well as on the epic ‘Dying Light’. The very catchy ‘Sunk Your Teeth’ and ‘Feel Again’, with their pop choruses, are not to be outdone.
In a more traditional vein, ‘Never Say Never’ will delight early fans with its “motivational” rock/metal sound reminiscent of the band’s roots, while the very modern ‘Meet Your Maker’, with its electronic sounds, proves to be more daring. Reinvention finally closes with the aggressive ‘Hole in My Head’, a quick and intense farewell that hits us with one last punch…
With Reinvention, The Veer Union delivers a non-stop album that gets straight to the point. By modernising their music rather than completely reinventing it, the Canadians retain the alternative rock/metal identity that made them famous. The band is also preparing for a North American and European tour, and with tracks so well suited to live performance, it goes without saying that the pit will be lively!
